Villeneuve has proven he can drive a stock car and at least be a road-course ringer. All-in-all it was better than anything I've seen the Milwaukee Mile produce. 3. I think once the teams get the hang of this track, racing should improve. I hope NASCAR stays. BTW some of the moves JV made where ballsy but sadly it didn't pay off for him since his engine decided to give out on him. 4. Smokefan is right, over the years the racing should improve and if it does I have a feeling that this race has a pretty good future. NASCAR would be pretty stupid to drop one of the greatest circuits in the world. I hope this track gets a cup date in the future, along with other great road courses like montreal, road atlanta and VIR. 7. What will happen is, teams and drivers will get used to the track more and the racing won't be nearly as chaotic. This was entertaining because nobody except for Carl Edwards seemed to know what they were doing lol. Assuming they do come back, I guarantee that race won't be as exciting as this one was. I think that Nascar should just branch out more and really mix up the schedule year to year so that nobody gets used to running at any track, and then things will really get unpredictable. When Nascar adds a new track, it produces a good first race but gets more and more boring over the years. 11. This is his 2nd straight road course win and first road course pole, and more importantly, the first time we've seen a backflip from him since Montreal last August. The #90 makes its first and possibly only non start and park race of the season as a Toyota with Patrick Long driving. First win of any kind for Ford since Carl took the checkers at Phoenix last November. Stanton Barrett somehow finishes 17th even though he brought out the last caution being stuck in the kitty litter in turn 6. Overall a much more entertaining race than anything ever held at the Milwaukee Mile, now they need to bring Cup cars here. 14. a person posted: 06.20.2010 - 4:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) getting really sick of the sprint cup regulars ruining the nationwide series 15. It's frustrating to have the race slowed for 10-15 minutes because a car was stopped off track,I know it was just out of a corner, but still.... any other sanctioning body would've thrown a local yellow for that. 19. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.20.2010 - 9:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) I thought it was a pretty good race....... when they were actually racing. The long red flag killed it. It caused it to drag on way too long, plus the cautions at the end were annoying. I actually had to miss the last 10 laps because I went to Bowman Gray with some buddies. When NASCAR comes to a track, they need to remove all gravel traps. With all the safety innovations in NASCAR cars, they don't really need them. Luckily it looks like Watkins Glen has eliminated most of them, and Sears Point doesn't have any tire traps like they used to. But it is a good track for racing. I'm not a huge fan of road racing (except for old tapes of Riverside, which I can't get enough of), but I enjoyed the green flag laps. 20. Most notably Jacques Villeneuve who ran 2nd pretty much every lap of the race had motor issues coming to get the white flag, and Tony Ave who was running 5th on the white flag lap got taken out by Paul Mendard. Tough luck for both of those 2, both ran great all day long...but they certianlly did prove there talent today. Also great run by Morgan in 19th, awesome to see him near the front 22. He lost a lot of spots on the final restart, falling as far as 8th or 9th i think, thanks to Villenuve and Ave having problems he gained a couple spots back but then lost another to Coleman on the last lap. Either way good for JR! I think with 5 laps to go 3 of the top 5 were Canadians! Too bad for Villenuve, he made some amazing moves out there 28. Bone Head Jr. (err Bobby Hamilton, Jr.). He got 3 Top 10 finishes all year and still finished 6th in points. NASCAR needs to tier the series. Tier 1 - Sprint Cup Tier 2 - Nationwide Tier 3 - Truck Series Then change the rules and only award points for the LOWEST tier run in a weekend. You race in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide race, you only get Nationwide points. Buschwhacking solved. Sprint Cup drivers still allowed to race at standalone Nationwide events during Sprint Cup off weekends. Solved. Don't expect Brain-dead Brian or Moron Mike to implement the idea, though. It makes too much sense. 35. I agree 100%. It was a short term gain that has led to this long term loss, for both this Series which doesn't have its own identity, but the Cup Series too as there is no developmental programs. To be successful, you need a huge budget that only a Cup regular can bring. As has been the case with NASCAR for the past 10 years, they saw the $$$ and ignored the long term effects. It was great watching them race at tracks like Hickory, South Boston, the Nashville Fairgrounds, and Myrtle Beach. Plus it made double dipping almost impossible. They need to drift back away from Cup and start developing some drivers. "good job Menard on taking out about six cars, freaking idiot" Jeff Gordon must have been watching him because he did that at Sears Point today. "Brad hit one guy, Coleman. Other than that he was one of the cleanest drivers out there." Coleman was the first guy Brad bumped in either Series all year. Then, at Sears Point, he added about 7 more names to that list. He was trying to hit the ones that Jeff Gordon missed. "The only thing i have say is 'get used to it.'" Unfortunately you are absolutely right. 36. I didn't watch the race so I just saw the highlights of his spin and the wreck he was involved in. His car looked pretty bad after all of that, but from the sounds of things the LONG cautions must've helped them repair the car and keep it on the lead lap. He was the highest finishing ROTY contender for a 2nd straight race. Carl Edwards gets his 26th career Nationwide win from his 21st career pole, first win for him and Ford since Phoenix in November of last season. It's also his first win from pole since Michigan in August 2008. It's Roush Racing's 109th win in NNS. Ron Fellows gets his 8th top five in 16 Nationwide starts, all on road courses. Brendan Gaughan's 3rd top five in 2010 ties the amount he had in all of 2009. It's his first top five and 2nd top ten in 3 Nationwide road course starts. Brad Keselowski gets his 14th straight top ten, 4th straight in the top five and best career Nationwide road course finish. Brad's point lead is still a lofty 237 points. Australian and V8 Supercar driver Owen Kelly finishes 5th in his first career Nationwide start. It's the #27's 4th top five in 15 races this season. Brad Coleman has his second 6th place finish in the last 3 races. Despite being a former Grand Am driver it's just his 4th top ten in 8 road course starts. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series point leader JR Fitzpatrick gets his best career Nationwide finish in 7th. Jason Leffler gets just his 4th top ten in 12 career Nationwide road course starts. Steve Wallace has his second 3 race top 10 streak of the season. It's his 3rd top ten in 9 road course starts. Trevor Bayne gets his 4th career top ten in his 30th career Cup start, and first in the last 12 races. Colin Braun's 3rd straight top 11 finish has improved his season's average finish from 28.3 to 23.4. Ron Hornaday makes his first Nationwide start since IRP, July last year. Brian Scott has his first top 20 in the last 4 races. Patrick Long finishes 14th in his Nationwide debut. Tayler Malsam has his 2nd top 15 finish in his 3rd career start. This is Morgan Shephard's best Nationwide finish since 19th at Iowa in August 2009. 42. Talon64 posted: 06.24.2010 - 6:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There's still 20 races to go in the season but it'll take a record-breaking comeback for anyone to beat Keselowski for the championship. Larry Pearson was 289 points behind Jack Ingram for the lead after 15 races (31 race season). Jack got suspended for two races and Larry beat Brett Bodine by just 7 points to win the championship, Ingram ending up 3rd. The farthest any champion's been behind the point leader at this point in the season was Brian Vickers in 2003, 5th in the standings and 175 points behind point leader Scott Riggs after 15 races. Carl's made a big (but unsuccessful) comeback before, in 2008 he was 225 points behind Clint Bowyer after 16 races and ended up losing by 21 points. But it's going to be a lot tougher to overcome a similar deficit on Keselowski this year; Clint won the championship in 2008 because he was top 10 every race and ended up winning with an 8.3 avg fin which stayed constant the whole season. But Keselowski's not only been top five every race so far (4.0 avg fin), but he's led laps and has the most wins of any full time NNS driver. Bad luck and mistakes are the only things that will bring anyone into the championship battle, otherwise there isn't one. 43.
