I don't like Braun but to throw him under the bus saying that you gotta give and take when Leffler admitted it was his mistake but bring up all of Braun's incidents that he was involved in wasn't needed. Anyway, good job Marcos. 2. RLewis9 posted: 08.07.2010 - 6:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Marcos Ambrose wins the Nationwide series race at Watkins Glen for the third straight year. Nelson Piquet, Jr. makes his Nationwide debut with an impressive 7th place finish. There was a pretty big crash early in the race. Jason Leffler, Boris Said, Justin Allgaier, Trevor Bayne, Tony Raines, and Brendan Gaughan were all caught up in it. 3. While I want all those Canadian guys to do well I've been pulling for JR Fitzpatrick the most, not just because he is a NCATS regular but also with him being as youn as he is there is a realistic chance that he can get a shot making it in this sport, his 7th at Road America and 11th (after spining out) here at the Glen are a great start, hopefully he has another great run at Montreal and help himself get some type of full time ride, funny thing is he isnt even known as a road course racer, he just runs them so much every year in the Canadian Tire Series that he has adapted much better than others. 4. Might be his last win with JTG. Also Kyle continues to show how much of a sore loser he is. "Might as well take the day off", is what Kyle remarked on the radio after falling back to 5th place. It's like he takes 1 step forwards, and 2 steps backwards. He had been much better this year with regards to how he treated his crew, and making the best out of a ill-handling car. Today showed he can resort to his old antics at any moment. 6. rw posted: 08.07.2010 - 8:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Good Job Marcos! True competitors never give up. That is the difference between him and drivers like Gordon and JJ. When things go wrong for them, they step it up a notch and wait for an opportunity to pounce instead of giving up. Jason Leffler is a complete tool. What a loser! He drove off the track, then directly into Colin's right rear, wrecked himself and caused a pileup (literally!) then says they need more give and take. You were barely to his rear quarter panel you idiot!! That's what happens when you wait until the last minute to try to merge back into traffic. Nothing is ever his fault. That is why he is a first class LOSER!!! Carl blows up and Brad finishes 4th. This basically gives Brad a 2 race cushion in the NWide points. That is good to have with Bristol and another road course coming up shortly. Hopefully he'll get his NWide title, then focus strictly on Cup. 11. All I can say about the wreck he caused, is that there's a reason he couldn't cut it in the Cup Series. And I agree with what has already been said about his "give & take" speech. After seeing Ambrose lose the last two NW road-course races in heartbreaking fashion, I'm glad to see him pick up a win. He deserves it for his mad skills on these tracks. And Nelson Piquet continues to prove his critics at the beginning of the season wrong, as he scored a top-10 in his very first Nationwide start. I know it was a road-course, but add this finish to his good results from Trucks this year and we have a potentially promising driver. 13. rw posted: 08.08.2010 - 12:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Carl blows up and Brad finishes 4th. The only problem with the restrictions, if they are put in, is even if they Cup drivers only run 7 races a year they will still act like spoiled brats like they do now, we just won't have to hear it as much after Nationwide races. 16. The STP, ArmorAll and Zippo paint schemes that he runs each year are awesome. This is the third win for a one off deal this year, including both Daytona races. Pure heartbreak for Carl to have an engine failure, preventing him winning 3 straight road races. Good run for Steve Wallace, he has 10 straight top 15s and top 10s in half his starts, which makes 2010 a career year for him. "Hopefully he'll get his NWide title, then focus strictly on Cup." I wouldn't count on it, now that he knows just how good the #22 team is, I fully expect him to run 28-30 races next year as well (all the companion events), at which point you're not really focusing on Cup. 18. I play the Papyrus version on my computer (always the AeroWar88 Mod) and some of the wrecks I cause result in cars literally piling on top of each other, just like this one. If only about 3 or 4 of them would have flipped over (Thank God they didn't) it would have been identical. "I fully expect him to run 28-30 races next year as well (all the companion events), at which point you're not really focusing on Cup." I'm sure Brad would like to do that (for whatever reason), but I have a feeling Miller Lite will put the clamps on that. I've noticed drivers of beer cars don't run a whole lot of Busch/NWide races. I remember Dale Jr, while in the #8 Bud car, saying he would like to run more Busch races, but Budweiser didn't want him to because they wanted him to be seen mainly in the Bud car as the Bud guy. That sounds kinda stupid, but that seems to be the way the beer companies think. Kasey Kahne went from running half the Busch races in '06 and '07 to running 20 total over the past 3 years. So hopefully Miller and Roger will make him focus solely on the Blue Deuce next year. I hope!! Just as a side note, if Harvick does get the Bud deal next year, are they gonna do the same to him? He is all about running NWide races. Are they gonna relax that with him or force him to cut back? 21. Frank posted: 08.08.2010 - 12:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Guys, I can understand your complains about buschwhackers but in that race we've seen first class road racing show because there were enough top class guys from Cup plus some very strong ringers such Fellows, Fitzpatrick, Villeneuve and even Piquet who deserves respect. Just look who created the big one and how cup guy avoided it with full stop. At RA there were just 3 buschwhackers and we've seen collision/mistake at almost every corner in the end. =Pure heartbreak for Carl to have an engine failure, preventing him winning 3 straight road races.= O yeah, if not that engine he'd dominated this race such as at RA... What an unlucky prevention! DSFF, nice note about buschwhacking and beer sponsor. We'll see soon are you right 22. But that was because Busch was sponsoring the second tier series back then, so they wanted the Bud guy to stay as the Bud guy. However, now that the second tier series is being sponsored by an insurance company, I don't think any beer sponsor will exercise those rules on their driver. That's why I expect BK to run either the full schedule next year since let's face it, he's getting his butt whipped in Cup by guys like Menard and Allmendinger (both who are having fine seasons). 24. The way things are looking, and with cup drivers potentially being forced back Steve is quickly becoming a championship contender whether youll admit it or not. In no particular order id say next year is looking like it may come down to Steve, Trevor Bayne, and perhaps even Brendan Gaughan. Id say Allgaier of course but I think hes going to end up on the Cup Side. Brad Coleman would be a definate contender if he could drive full time. Lets hope that Busch/Logano split 1 car with Debenedetto driving the non companions so hat Brad can finally get the chance he deserves. 27. LOL, what does that say about YOUR guy who's been running the series full time the last 7 seasons? Man, you have to wonder how well Carl would do if he didn't focus so much time on finishing 2nd in the championship every season's he had legit competition. Anyways, Marcos gets his 3rd straight Nationwide win at the Glen which are all of his career victories in the series. He won from his 3rd career Nationwide pole (his first career pole in 2007 actually came at an oval, Memphis). The top 3 starters in the race finished in the top 3, as Joey Logano started and finished 2nd for his best road course finish in Nationwide. It's his 3rd straight 2nd place finish and 5th in his last 9 starts to lead the series in that stat. Harvick started and finished 3rd for his 130th top five in 264 Nationwide starts. It's the 8th time in 10 seasons that he's run at least half the races that Harvick's had at least 10 top fives in a season. Brad Keselowski gets his 6th finish of 4th this season, and 2nd straight 4th place finish on the road courses (his best finish in Nationwide on the road courses). Kyle Busch makes it 4 drivers in the top 5 who finished where they started; Kyle gets his 3rd straight top five at the Glen and 4th top five in 7 career NNS road course starts. Ron Fellows gets his 2nd top ten in 2 starts driving the #88 JRM car at road courses this season. It's his 10th top ten in 17 career Nationwide starts. Nelson Piquet Jr. finishes 7th in his Nationwide debut. He's the 4th driver of the #27 this year to finish in the top 10, and it's the team's 10th on the season (they're 10th in the owners standings). Jacques Villeneuve makes his first career start at Watkins Glen, where his father Gilles won in Formula 1 for Ferrari back in 1979. His 8th place finish is the #32 team's 18th top ten of the season, 2nd best in the series behind only the #22. Steve Wallace gets his 4th straight top ten finish, a new career high. It's his 4th top ten in 10 career NNS road course starts, and 2nd straight. Michael McDowell gets his first top ten of the season, and just the 2nd top ten for MacDonald Motorsports in 166 Nationwide starts since 2003. JR Fitzpatrick has finishes of 7th and 11th so far in the first 2 of 3 scheduled road course starts in the #7 JRM car. Tayler Malsam gets his 5th top 20 finish in 8 starts this season, 2nd in 2 road course starts. Brian Scott was the highest finishing rookie in 13th. Brian Scott has a 20 point lead over Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the ROTY standings, and a 29 point lead over Colin Braun who's now hit 17 starts on the season. 18 year old Alex Kennedy finishes a career-best 16th in his 3rd career start (all in 2010). Carl Edwards' blown engine not only drops him to 327 points behind Keselowski for the lead in the drivers' standings, but drop the #60 to 5th in the owners standings behind the #18, #22, #20 and #33. 28. Talon, there's a huge difference between Carl and BK. Even in Carl's worst season of Cup (last year) he finishes just outside the top 10 in points with 7 top 5s, and 14 top 10s, and came within a lap of winning a race. In all his other seasons he has never finished worse than 12th and has won 16 races overall, and the 2008 Cup championship if you go by overall points. So you can't really say him pulling double duty is hurting his Cup efforts, he has pretty much found the balance between successful in both. BK on the other hand, is having a great Nationwide season along with a horrible Cup year. He hasn't really done any better than David Stremme, and hasn't had a top 15 since May, has a bunch of DNFs. So it's fair to say that BK is the one that needs to figure out that balance if he ever wants to lose the "One-hit wonder" label that he's carrying around now. 29. Great comparison, a guy who's been in Cup for 6 years versus someone in his first full season. Yet Keselowski's STILL won more recently in Cup than Edwards has. Hell, if Edwards manages to go the rest of the year without a win (but that's not looking likely, so I need to milk this for all it's worth while I can LOL) then they'll be equal in batting .500 in winning seasons; 1 for 2 for Brad, 3 for 6 for Edwards. And how do you know that Carl's found the balance? That not running Nationwide wouldn't have allowed him to win the '08 championship? Or not avoid his winless seasons in '06 and '09 which are a big hits against his Cup career resume? The sky could be the limit but instead Carl's lowering himself to running the 2nd series full time and it's acted as a crutch recently for his lowly Cup results BASED ON EXPECTATIONS, given he won 9 races in 2008 but hasn't done anything close to that since. Anyways, Carl could time it just right and get his 100th career top five in his 200th career Nationwide start if he finishes in the top 5 in the next two races at Michigan and Bristol. 32. Bronco posted: 08.10.2010 - 6:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Great comparison, a guy who's been in Cup for 6 years versus someone in his first full season." Forget Carl for a second and compare BK to the previous driver of the #12. He's wrecked a lot, struggles to run above 20th on most weekend, hasn't posted a top 10 in 25 starts (going back to '09). What has he done for the #12 team that Stremme didn't? "Yet Keselowski's STILL won more recently in Cup than Edwards has." Yeah, and his Talladega win was more recent than anything Edwards, Kenseth, Earnhardt Jr, Gordon and Burton have done. What does that prove? Absolutely nothing. Unless he wins again, what happened at Talladega that day will be considered a fluke, in the same way that people don't consider JPM a complete stock car driver since he hasn't won on an oval yet. "That not running Nationwide wouldn't have allowed him to win the '08 championship?" Because the only things that came between Carl and the 2008 championship was his blunder at Talladega, and having some kind of electrical issue with his car a week later at Charlotte. Take those two bad finishes away, and his worst finish over those 10 races was 4th, something even the #48 team would be hard pressed to do. Running Nationwide wasn't even a factor. "Or not avoid his winless seasons in '06 and '09 which are a big hits against his Cup career resume?" Those were weak seasons for Roush in which all their cars struggled. Even so, he finished ahead of two teammates in 2006, and ahead of three in 2009, and his worst finish in both of those years was a respectable 12th. I don't see what running the full Nationwide schedule had to do with him being winless. Plus, I remember him having a crew chief change in 2006 which clearly didn't work out. I know his Cup career has taken a huge dive after Homestead 2008, but you can't expect another 9 win season out of him when all the Fords are running poorly. 33.
