This track is very physical and a hot day excelled the fatigue. During the red flag it looked like Jacque was close to passing out. Side by side finish at a road course is amazing and especially between two road course aces like Said and Papis. The Top 10 drivers combined to lead a whopping 5 laps, the lowest in Nationwide history(99% sure). Who would have thought? No Kyle Busch=Awesome Race. It was so refreshing to be able to watch a race with no complaining and whining. Also it's nice to see that ESPN can actually cover a race without nut-hugging a driver. Overall a pretty damn good afternoon of racing!!! 3. Good run for Parker Kligerman, getting a top ten finish in the K Automotive ride. Also great job by DJ Kennington, coming home just outside of the top ten. Poor Brad Coleman can't catch a break, even when trying to take out Brad Keselowski, it still came back to bite him a bit. 6. ii posted: 08.29.2010 - 9:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (3) What a race!!! The Cup series should definetly come here, and there should even be a seperate series in America with former or current Cup or Nationwide road course aces that have qualified for a race, and just go around the continent at tracks like Villeneuve, Watkins Glen, and Road America, and with full sponsorship for everyone (no start and parks). That would be great! 7. ii posted: 08.29.2010 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Oh, and why did Mike Bliss sponsor his mom's birthday? 8. 18fan posted: 08.29.2010 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) For most of the race, it looked like the two races during the Cup off week would be won by Cup drivers until Ambrose and Edwards broke. 9. This is the 4th year of this event (with 2 of the previous 3 having horrible weather) and they still pack the place and cheer every lap like Talladega did when Earnhardt would take the lead. Compare this event to the Mexico City event. Once the novelty wore off, the fans quit coming. 4 years in, and Montreal still packs the place. Secondly, congrats to Boris. In probably the worst team he has driven for on the NWide road courses in 10 years, he gets the win. Well deserved and I hope he can enjoy once he cools down and rests for a bit. Those drivers were WORN OUT!!! The first 25 laps of this race totally sucked. Cars would crash, then try to drive back to the pits throwing debris, oil, and water everywhere resulting in seemingly endless caution laps. But the rest of the race? I loved it. Great action. This was like a race from the old days when the cars weren't as reliable. Carl and Ambrose were the dominant cars, but each had mechanical issues take them out of contention. Villaneuve had a great car but couldn't keep the brakes on it. Robby ran out of gas. Logano had a great car but destroyed it. Brad Coleman had a great car, but in retaliation against Brad K for his bump in Wisconsin messed up his front hood leading to a shit day ( lol Brad: We're more than even, he knocked his fender off"). Ron Fellows hit everything but the pace car. Ambrose hit everything but the pace car. Jason Leffler probably did hit the pace car. And what an awesome last lap. THAT is why we need NWide only races with only NWide drivers. It was so nice seeing a finish between 3 non-Cup regulars. Edwards and Ambrose had problems, Joey knocked the shit out of his front end, Robby ran out of gas, and Brad never was a factor, he just stayed out of trouble. "It was so refreshing to be able to watch a race with no complaining and whining. Also it's nice to see that ESPN can actually cover a race without nut-hugging a driver." Exactly!! Who knows what he would have said were he there. A great race and a good broadcast. Even Rusty was decent in the booth. 10. 12345Dude posted: 08.29.2010 - 9:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Great news guys! With the new truck schedule Kyle Busch can race in 23 of the 25 races. Bill France III had 2 options. Turn the truck series into the nationwide series. Or keep it as, as a series with the best racing in nascar but make a little less money. Guess which one he picked? Also what a win for Boris Said!!!! 11. Nick posted: 08.29.2010 - 9:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What a great race and it's good to finally see a good person win. 12. Road courses like Montreal (tight, slow, technical) are just plain spectacular. Let's hope the Cup series makes it there one day. 13. "mad" Max lived up to his name with the pass he made on Boris coming to checkers, shame it didn't turn into anything but 2nd for him. JV comes 3rd at his hometrack "named after his dad." Brad continues to pad his lead with his run today, Paul menard shows he RC talent and unlike Road America he didn't have to demo derby his way to where he finished. Now if the Cup Series had 3 roadies, 8 short tracks races, 4 RP races, 3 flat track races, 3 2 mile track races, and the rest in cookie-cutters, we might see ratings turn upward. 19. Jason Leffler sure got GreatClips a lot of TV time today, seems like he was bouncing off of everything. Ron Fellows spun out Steve Wallace while he was running in the Top-10, ruining his day. I believe it was when Marcos Ambrose was leading, the lapped car of Mike Wallace was holding him up so much, he ended up just punting him out of the way. 20. I'm glad to see the #09 team get a win, they needed that just as much as fish need water. And at least Boris didn't drive like an idiot in this race, so I don't mind him winning. Max Papis also turns in an awesome performance in KHI's #33. I hope Kevin puts him in that car for all the NW road courses next year instead of running them himself. Usually when Brad Keselowski runs road course races, he too drives out of control, but he actually drove a nice race today. Good to see him pad his points lead. Good runs for JR Fitzpatrick and Parker Kligerman. I don't want to throw Brian Keselowski under the bus, as I like him, but doesn't that car usually run better when he isn't driving it? Michael McDowell got in his ride last year and ran near the top-10 a few times. 23. RaceFanX posted: 08.29.2010 - 10:58 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Boris Said does the impossible and wins in the #09 Ford in one of the best photo finishes I've ever seen. This is also an ultra-rare "spin and win," Said looped the black #09 earlier in the race after contact with Jacques Villeneuve. Said's team ran this race with a largely blank car, they had Zaxby's on the hood but the only thing on the side of the black Fusion were smaller decals from a last-minute sponsorship deal from Performance Friction Brakes. They must be quality brakes, Said's kept working long after many of his competitors started having trouble with theirs. Again at Montreal in the early laps it was Marcos Ambrose dominating again but a dying battery ruined his chance for victory and then mechanical problems knocked him out. With Ambrose gone the race was dominated by Carl Edwards who was driving away when he broke the track bar within 10 laps to go, ending his chance for victory. The team's first attempt to fix it didn't hold but their second go at it did and thanks to the large number of retirees Carl still came away with a top-20 (barely). The fact Robby Gordon even had a shot to win this race is amazing. Gordon's #07 Camry threw a brake hose in qualifying and his team was forced to break the impound rule to fix it so Robby started at the back. He was starting to move up when he was collected in a five-car crash triggered when West Coast road racer Kyle Kelley spun Joe Nemechek. Gordon's rear end took a shot when Ricky Stenhouse crashed into it, a move which totaled the #6 Ford but left Robby largely undamaged. A good amount of black duct tape later and the blue-and-white #07 rejoined the race, the crash and the previous deep start lead to Robby's fuel milage gamble while may have worked if this race didn't have a green-white-checker finish. Kelly had a very rough day, he spun out before the Nemechek incident and later almost crashed again when Marcos Ambrose was charging past him on a restart. Engine problems finally ended the day for the orange #59. Jacques Villenueve put on quite a show for his hometown fans. Even with the brakes failing on the Dollar General #32, the ex-F1 World Champion was able to stay in contention and while he didn't win he still picked up his best Busch (and NASCAR) finish to date with a 3rd. Villenueve broke his shifter in qualifying but was able to fix it during the parade lap so his team didn't have to break the impound rule and he was able to maintain his front row starting spot. He and Ambrose had several great battles on the early restarts. Steve Wallace had a good run going until Ron Fellows got into him and spun the 5-Hour Energy #66. The spin screwed up the engine on Wallace's Toyota and it blew about a lap later. This race saw the Busch debuts for defending Trans-Am champion Tomy Drissi and K&N West standout Paulie Harraka. Drissi claimed an impressive top-20 despite a spin that erased much of his progress through the field while Harraka was a victim of the five-car crash. Brad Coleman had a decent run going before an intended to be harmless bump to another car knocked loose the other car's bumper guard which fell off and was run over by Coleman. The guard, which is positioned behind the bumper itself, jammed until Coleman's #18 and caused a flat tire that ruined Coleman's shot at a top-10. Andrew Ranger started the day with a dramatic win in the Canadian Tire Series support race. He was hoping for a good run in this one also but damage from one of several incidents in the opening laps doomed the red-and-white #27 to a finish deep in the pack. Justin Marks didn't start and park, his black #43 Ford legitimately broke down on the opening lap and did not make it back to the pits. Basically every car in the field suffered some sort of body damage during this race. This was the last road course race with these cars (future ones will use the new Nationwide CoT) so it's no wonder drivers went all out. 32. Brian's not a great driver, but he's consistent and won a few ARCA races in mediocre equipment compared to the frontrunners in ARCA. It's worth noting, however, that the car Kligerman drove today was something that Justin Allgaier has driven earlier in the year. I'm not sure if it was a Penske crew, but it was a Penske car through and through. Brian Keselowski hasn't gotten the opportunity to drive anything prepped by Penske. "Jacques Villenueve put on quite a show for his hometown fans. Even with the brakes failing on the Dollar General #32, the ex-F1 World Champion was able to stay in contention" That was actually just an assumption on behalf of ESPN, as Villeneuve after the race said that his brakes held up completely fine. I guess they were looking for an excuse for why Boris Said was dumped by Villeneuve early on. 44. Bronco posted: 08.30.2010 - 4:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Congrats to Boris for finally winning a Nationwide race. Poor guy had been rained out at Watkins Glen a few time and lost the Pepsi 400 pole because of rain in 2007. Wonder if he'll shave his head now? Another year, another incredible race at CGV. This is by far the best track on the schedule after Daytona/Talladega. Heartbreak yet again for Marcos Ambrose, who dominated but yet again had nothing to show for it. Carl Edwards probably could have won were it not for the track bar breaking and Robby winning from the back would have been incredible. In four races at CGV, the four winners have combined to lead only 14 laps, with the most being 7 from Ron Fellows in 2008. Next time Marcos should let someone else dominate the race LOL. This is probably the first race in history to have road course ringers take up the top 3 spots. Boris becomes the 2nd first time winner in 2010 and only the 2nd non full time Cup guy to win. Marcos may be the most amazing road racer I have ever seen. He makes the most amazing passes, going 3 wide in the grass, saving it when it looks he would have been wrecked, catching up to Carl from 5th or 6th place. Problem is he over abused his car by banging into Villeneuve and spinning out the lapped cars of Mike Wallace and Tony Raines. It will probably never happen but if there's any track that deserves a Cup date, it's Montreal. Wish Road America could be added as well. 45. Sports car legend Boris Said gets his first career Nationwide Series win in his 22nd attempt. His best finish prior to this was 2nd at Mexico in 2006. And like what was mentioned, it's the first win for the #09 RAB Racing team, which was 28th in the owners standings entering Montreal but are now 24th and have a safe 200+ point margin over 31st. Max Papis gets his best career NASCAR finish in 2nd. His previous best was 3rd in Montreal in 2007 driving for Phoenix Racing. I have to admit I was hoping Max would win instead but it was like preferring chocolate over peanut butter. Jacques Villeneuve also gets his best NASCAR finish in 3rd, previous best was 4th in Montreal last season. It's the #32's 21st top ten of the year, tying the #22 for most on the season. If there was a trophy for best Nationwide road course racer in 2010, it'd go to Carl Edwards on merit (since Ambrose didn't run Road Atlanta) but Brad Keselowski for results. Keselowski's the only driver in 2010 to have top ten finishes, let alone top fives, in all 3 road course races. It was his 7th top ten in 9 road course starts and 4th straight top five. It's also his 7th finish of 4th on the year, the position he's finish in the most. Paul Menard gets just his 4th top five of the season, but his 3rd in the last 7 races. It's his 3rd top five in 10 NNS road course starts. Joey Logano gets his 16th top ten in 17 starts this season. It's his 3rd top 10 in 5 road course starts. Canadian JR Fitzpatrick ties his best career Nationwide finish in 7th. JR recorded finishes of 7th, 11th and 7th on the road courses, joining Brad Keselowski as the only drivers with top 11 finishes in all 3 road course races in 2010. Parker Kligerman scores his best career Nationwide finish in 8th, his 2nd straight top ten. Justin Allgaier gets his first career Nationwide top ten finish at a road course in his 5th start; he only had 1 top 20 finish before this race. It also (technically) makes it 3 Penske cars in the top 10 (Brad 4th, Kligerman 8th). Trevor Bayne scores his 10th top ten in 40 career Nationwide starts. It's his 2nd ten in 3 road course starts this season. Canadian DJ Kennington gets his best career Nationwide finish of 11th in his 46th career start. It's Ed Rensi's best finish as an owner since Boris Said finished 5th in Montreal in 2008. Kenny Wallace gets just his 6th top 20 finish of the season. Victor Gonzalez Jr. led the race for about one corner after an early restart and ended up with his 2nd top 20 finish in 5 career Nationwide starts, all on road courses. Carl Edwards led a race-high 29 laps, just the 2nd time in 2010 he's led the most laps in a race; both have come on road courses, Road Atlanta and Montreal. Carl's currently on pace to lead just 368 laps this year, a career low. Colin Braun was the highest finish rookie, ending up 22nd but failing to finish after being involved in a late wreck. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the only rookie still running but he was 10 laps down in 24th. BTW Parker Kligerman no longer counts as a ROTY contender for 2010. With the #22 finishing 4th and the #18 finishing 12th, the #18 now has a 35 point lead in the owners standings over the #22. The Penske squad have more top fives and top tens but with Kyle Busch the JGR guys have much more wins and laps led. 50. By my unofficial count, Mark Martin had 27 flat tires and still won after leader Kyle Petty hopped a curb, spun out, collected Earnhardt, then hopped in Dale Jarrett's car, helmetless, for a ride back to the garage under caution. While riding, Kyle waved and smiled at Ernie Irvan out the passenger window, to which Ernie gave DJ's car a love bump, knocking Kyle around inside. They all had to be laughing their asses off the whole time. Also, Sears Point had some really good races from '91 to '93. 52. Real drama (not contrived phantom yellows), TWO last-lap lead changes, and hard charging throughout the field. Note to Rusty, Andy, and Marty - touting the new car as "tougher" isn't a selling point. You shouldn't be able to bounce your car off the wall a half dozen times without damaging it considerably. 54. The point remains the same. There's no skill involved in running roughshod in a car that can be knocked up against the wall repeatedly and still race competitively. 56. He's done a lot of road racing so it was good for him to put it in the winner circle. Carl Edwards looked like he had the field covered until he got wrecked, Carl isn't the best road racer he gets through because of equipment not skill. To me it takes skill to win at road racing. Marcos Ambrose is going to get one here someday, he has now lost it every which way you can. He's gotta keep the fenders straight on it and close the deal by not making mistakes. 57. Carl Edwards, Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Newman, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have Nationwide road course wins but none in Cup. Carl and Kurt have Cup poles at road courses, Carl this year at the Glen while Kurt swept the poles at the road courses in 2006. Carl's best road course finish is 3rd at Watkins Glen where he has a 8.2 average finish in 6 starts, but only 2 top tens and a 18th place average at Infineon in the same number of starts. Kurt finished runner-up at the Glen this year, and finished 3rd at Infineon in 2005. Truex's best roadie Cup finish is 5th at the Glen in 2008. But his average finish at Infineon is 24.4. Newman has runner-up finishes at the Glen (2002) and Infineon (2006), with a career average finish of 13.7 in 18 road course starts. Denny finished runner-up at the Glen in 2007 and has 4 top tens in 5 starts there. Sonoma's been a bit trickier for him, 2 top tens and a best of 5th in 2009 in 5 starts. And Dale Jr.'s road course record in Cup is pretty bad; a 22.9 average finish at the Glen and a 20.5 average finish at Infineon. His best finish was 3rd at the Glen in 2003. 60. 18fan posted: 09.22.2010 - 9:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I missed most of this race because I was watching the Little League World Series championship game, but the few laps I did see were crazy. 61. ii posted: 09.26.2010 - 7:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) Maybe NASCAR should have a race in Monaco. lol 62. ii posted: 09.26.2010 - 7:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) Oh, and how were there only 10 cars on the lead lap IF at Richmond every car running pretty much was on the lead lap? 63. The brutally long green flag run on a hot summer day finally began to take its toll when in a span of about five laps some of the pre-race favorites like Ambrose, Carpentier and Fellows all broke, with several more midpack cars pulling off with terminal issues of their own. We probably should have seen it coming, though, when Justin Marks lasted about half a lap before stalling out. Would have loved to know what happened to Michael Annett, rocking the Toyota throwback colors in this race, when he broke something and crashed hard to end the green flag run. Of course, that was overshadowed by race leader Carl Edwards breaking a trackbar mere moments later. He went behind the wall - twice! - and still only finished 4 laps down. Trevor Bayne smacked the wall at a pretty good clip twice in the final five laps and still finished tenth. Winner Boris Said pulled the spin and win himself. Even for the standards of Montreal, this race was thoroughly and utterly bizarre. 72. I've rewatched NASCAR races from the late 1980s to today, and I can say this with ease: Why did they get rid of such an amazing race? This race had everything you'd want in a perfect race. Several comers and goers throughout the field, and the dominant cars of the race weren't the contenders. The top 13 led a combined 5 laps, and in the top 4: Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Dodge. Fuel strategy came into play and affected the winner of the race. Had the GWC not come out, Robby Gordon might've won. Also in the race, lots of attrition, and tons of mechanical problems and damage meant it was survival of the strongest race car. And, at the finish of the race, probably the closest finish in NASCAR history at a Road Course, between two drivers who are mostly known for their road course skills, Max Papis, and Boris Said, where Said would win his first NASCAR race since 1998, in a crappy #09 Zaxby's car, that would get 1 top 10 the entire season, and it happened to be a win. ESPN covered the race perfectly, in my opinion. They never focused too much on a driver, and they always got to the action on the track just after it occured. Also, Allen Bestwick nailed that call at the finish perfectly. Sucks he isn't able to commentate anymore in NASCAR, but if he gets a job offering for either FOX or NBC, can either of them pick him up if that happens? He's my favorite NASCAR announcer besides Benny Parsons and Ken Squier. 73. BOBO83329521 posted: 06.01.2020 - 9:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First top 10, top 5 and win for Car #09 74.
