After he cut a tire, he had by far the fastest car because he had fresh tires, but he got overaggressive with 45 laps to go and turns the lapped car of Brian Scott, bringing out the caution he didn't need. He could've passed Harvick within ten laps of the incident and he lost because he didn't have any fresh tires left. 4. Agreed, and this was the third time this season that he had a tire rub and refused to pit, resulting in the tire going down. The other two incidents were at Texas and Darlington. Good run for Aric Almirola, who got a little burned by his tire strategy at the end. 9. As the ESPN crew managed to beat to death (imagine that) this has really brought a lot more parity than we have seen. Awesome finish, but then again this is Richmond: they could put on good races here with lawn mowers. I agree with what is being said about Clint. He had the car. Even with much older tires at the end, he still finished 7th. If he had new tires, he could have won with his eyes closed. If this were an isolated incident that would be one thing. And he is reason # 4,319,825 why I hate the cha$e. Look at all the attention being lavished on him for "battling" for the 12th spot. You're in 12th in points after 26 races? Big Freaking Deal. He hasn't won a Cup race in 2 and 1/2 years and is performing way behind his teammates, yet he is the center of attention these last few weeks. Ugh. Oh, and one other thing: His 2008 NWide championship is the weakest championship in the history of NASCAR. I don't dislike him personally, but he is seemingly the embodiment of everything that is wrong with NASCAR nowadays. 10. One other thought: Did anyone else get a warm feeling seeing Hermie Sadler in that black car with the gold #27 on it? Anyone else think of 1990? 12. Not really - I would say Travis Kvapil's Truck championship in 2003 was far weaker (1 lucky win, double digit laps led the whole year, single digit margin of victory Musgrave being black flagged). David Green's 1994 championship in Busch was also pretty weak. On the other hand, Clint finishing 3rd and 5th in points in consecutive years is the real embodiment of what is wrong with the cha$e. 13. I totally agree. And I agree about the Kvapil and David Green titles being weak. I just give Bowyer bonus points for being a full time Cupper, driving for a Cup organization, dipping down into NWide and only getting one win, a rain shortened race that Kasey Kahne would have won had it not rained (just like Harvick should have won Kvapil's one race in '03 and Mark should have won David's one win in '94). I don't mean to make it sound like I have something against Clint. I don't mind his personality and I haven't heard anything really negative about him. It just seems like, since 2007, most examples of the things I dislike about Brainless Brian's NASCAR (the cha$e, his refusal to do anything about Cuppers winning NWide titles and robbing that Series of its identity) involve Clint. I guess I shouldn't take it out on him, he's just playing the system that has been placed in front of him, but I can't stand it. 17. And yeah, Brad locked up his brakes to keep from hitting Harvick. I fail to see what he has done to have such a bad reputation (with the exception of the Sears Point Cup race where I'm pretty sure he even managed to hit the pace car). He spun Carl out at Memphis last year and publically apologized immediately. He spun Denny last year at Phoenix, taking it too far after Denny bumped him. Other than that, it is a few minor bumps and Brad refusing to roll over for the crybabies. At the spring Atlanta race, Carl moved down three lanes to try to cut Brad off, spun himself out, then sent Brad into the catchfence. Same deal at Dega last year. Carl tried to block, Brad held his ground, and Carl admitted this. At Dover last year, Denny tried to block and spun himself out. They are just mad because they feel entitled, and Brad won't bow down to them. 26. Oh, and after Memphis, he said the "harder you race, the rougher you race, the more rewarding it is" and something else about the fans enjoying it. I don't really think that qualifies as an apology. So for anyone that's still butthurt about Carl's move at Gateway, remember that according to BK himself - "the rougher you race, the more rewarding it is". 27. Actually Brad's exact words before that were: "I got in the back of Carl, that's the one I feel worst about I didn't know he was gonna make that move" Yes the fans do love it when drivers race hard for the win, but there's a big difference between hard racing and turning some one head on into the wall for a bump that wasn't even intentional. 28. Brad Keselowski finishes runner-up for the 4th time this season. It's his 75th career top ten in 131 Nationwide starts. Trevor Bayne ties his best career Nationwide finish in 3rd, his 4th top five and 6th top ten in the last 9 races. Bayne's scored the 4th most points over that span, only 4 less points than Carl Edwards in 2nd and 3 less than Paul Menard in 3rd. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the highest finishing rookie, with back-to-back top tens for the first time since June of 2009. His 2nd top five of the year is most among all rookies and his 5th top ten ties Brian Scott for the most. He's now just 3 points behind Brian Scott for the ROTY point lead with 8 races to go. Reed Sorenson finishes in the top 5 for the first time since ORP in June. It's his 15th top ten in 20 starts this season. Denny Hamlin scores his 3rd top ten in 4 Nationwide starts this season. Clint Bowyer gets his 5th top ten in 11 starts. Paul Menards' 3rd straight top ten and 4th in the last 5 races now has him just 61 points behind Justin Allgaier for 4th in the driver standings. Kyle Busch's 9th is just his 2nd stand-alone top ten finish of the season. The other was a 7th in the July Daytona race. It's his 125th career top ten in 195 Nationwide starts. Aric Almirola made just his 2nd Nationwide of the season. Parker Kligerman gets his 6th straight top 15 finish, but his 8th start of the season means he'll be ineligible for ROTY in 2011. 30. I think they've also been "sponsoring" Keselowski in Cup this year, but obviously they can't have their logos on the car. What's the point of sticking with a young driver when you can't follow him to the big time? It's NASCAR and Sprint's fault more than anything. If Penske can't find sponsorship for Allgaier then hopefully he'd land at Braun Racing where he could continue to race full time. Allgaier was fortunate to get a full time shot with Penske, but I doubt he'd get it if he hooked up with any other Cup teams. Then again maybe a sponsor will pop up that would prefer Allgaier in the #77 Cup car instead of Hornish. 35. That's what we all know should happen, however I would not be surprised at all to see BK return for another full year of Nationwide, since his buddy Carl Edwards is doing it as well. Even if the rumored limitation on Cup guys in Nationwide goes through, I'd still expect him to be running 20-25 races, or as much as the rules will allow. This also means Aric Almirola will likely be the champion next year, assuming Justin doesn't return and that Cup guys get limited starts. As for Sideways Sam, no way he returns next year. 37. Which is stupid, because we all know how Franchitti did in his first season back in IndyCar--he won the damn title. If Penske's gonna fold the 12 car in NW, he might as well bump Allgair up to Cup in the hopes that he can attract a sponsor for the 77. I really like the guy, but Hornish is just not gonna cut it in stock cars. I though early on last year that he was showing signs of promise, but that just hasn't developed.....at all. IMHO, it would be asinine for Penske to let Allgaier go. He's got a proven champ in Busch, a proven winner in Keselowski, and all the potential you could imagine in Allgaier. That'd be one hell of a team. Hypothetically. 38. Talon64 posted: 09.16.2010 - 4:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "For whatever reason, Roger doesn't seem to want to send Sam back to IndyCar. Sam's one of the pre-merger IRL drivers from when the series was all ovals, so if he went back he'd be struggling as much as fellow pre-merger drivers Wheldon, Carpenter and Meira have in the last couple seasons; alright on the ovals but terrible on the road and street courses. It's former CART/Champ Car drivers who are dominating Indycar right now: Will Power, Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Hunter Raey make up 6 of the top 7 spots in the standings. Briscoe's the exception but he won an ALMS class championship driving for Penske after his big 2005 crash at Chicagoland and has 2 road/street course wins to his credit in Indycars. If Hornish loses his ride with Penske in NASCAR then I honestly have no clue where he'll go. 39. ch posted: 07.22.2013 - 3:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #92 / #96 Owner: Bob Keselowski (Teammate to the #26) 40.
