The idiots at what is now Turner Motorsports are hurting Brian's chances of winning Rookie of the Year (though he could still win it without running the remaining races) and replacing him with Ricky Carmichael and James Buescher. Stupid move putting Carmichael in the car because he hasn't shown the potential that Scott showed in the truck series. Buescher has shown a lot of talent with Turner this year so I'm interested to see how he does. But I hate seeing Carmichael replace Scott. I also saw that this was possibly Trevor Bayne's last race with Diamond-Waltrip due to a clause in the contract that says they have to guarantee full sponsorship for next year. Oh yeah, sponsors just line up to be on board with Kyle Busch (by the way, do you keep up with the truck series at all? How about Cup?) And it seems strange to me that so many OTHER drivers besides Bayne and Allgaier are able to attract sponsors, despite the Cup drivers presence, because like you said, nobody can get anything because the Cup guys always dominate. And yet the Nationwide series still exists... hmmm. Maybe it's because a lot of the ratings for these races come from the Cup guys being there, and a lot of these guys might not have a series to race in, let alone a sponsor, if it hasn't been for the constant presence of Cup drivers SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING. (Mark Martin, anyone? How about Dale Earnhardt?) All you need to do to fix this series is either limit the Cup drivers starts a bit, or don't score them points. Then we can still get a Nationwide champion and have a points battle to care about. The Cup guys are still going to win the majority of the races they're in (*cough* Mark Martin Dale Earnhardt *cough*), and NASCAR knows they can't eliminate them completely, otherwise the series might not be able to survive. NASCAR talks about this fact all the time, does anyone actually pay attention to what they say, or is everyone busy complaining about Kyle Busch online? (Which you all have been doing long before he passed Earnhardt in wins and starts in the series, by the way) 25. martin-n-rusty posted: 09.26.2010 - 6:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) RLewis, Steve might of gotten his ride because of his dad, and yeah, he was not that good at all in his first year or two, but the guy had 4th most Top 10's out of regular Nationwide drivers last season, and 3rd most this season. THAT is why I hate what the Cup guys have done to this Series (including my guy, Brad, this year). First of all, it isn't interesting. Every NWide race is contested between Cup drivers. Why watch a portion of hwat I can see on Sunday on Saturday? And secondly, people like Scott, Bayne, and Allgaier should be the future of the Series. This is where you used to watch people like them develop before moving up to the Cup Series. It was truly a breeding ground for stars of the future. Now? It is where their career's are sent out to pasture and killed. And when will they finally pull the plug on this Danica experiment? She can't stay on the lead lap for more than 20 minutes. Nothing is changing. She either needs to be all in or all out. All she's doing is wasting time and money. And all these phantom problems Kyle always has? It is because he is mentally weak. You're just as bad when you take just about every opportunity to rip Brad Keselowski. Then again I take my fair shots at Carl Edwards. At least we're honest about the drivers we don't like. LOL If anyone deserves credit for the single-season wins record in Nationwide, it's JGR. Their cars are so dominant that any of the good Cup drivers could step into the #18 and win half the races. Those guys deserve their props while they can, because it looks like the NNS COT will even the playing field in 2011. And about Brian Scott, I just read on Twitter that he's said that he doesn't plan on missing any races the rest of the season. It sounds like he's found something to drive, although hopefully it isn't a S&P ride. But I also have to give props to Ricky Stenhouse Jr., he's been running great lately and he's cut Scott's ROTY point lead down to just 1 point. I don't think it would matter if Brian finished the year with Turner, my money's on Ricky Stenhouse Jr. winning ROTY now. But amazingly enough, James Buescher isn't out of the ROTY battle yet; he ran enough races early in the year for Phoenix Racing that he's still eligible to win it, and if he runs the remaining race he'll hit the 17 race minimum. You get bonus points for top five and top tens so while it's really unlikely, it's possible for him to contend if he runs off an amazing streak of races. 41. Trevor Bayne gets his 10th top ten of the year, 7th in the last 10 races where he's scored the 4th most points of anyone, 200 more than the next closest Nationwide regular (Justin Allgaier, 6th most points scored). Jason Leffler gets just his 4th top ten in 21 starts in the #38 this season. Justin Allgaier's 15th top ten of the season is most by a series regular and ranked 7th overall. And what kills me the most is the way it has stunted driver development. 10 years ago, we'd be watching guys like Allgaier, Bayne, and Scott battling for wins on worn out bullrings like Hickory, Myrtle Beach, South Boston, and the Nashville Fairgrounds while Cup owners watched intently, eventually hiring them and giving them a good shot in Cup. First off, I don't consider it a "record". Why? Because Sam Ard won all 10 of his races in BUSCH SERIES equipment, not CUP equipment. Also, all you idiots who root for Joe Gibbs Racing, or any Toyota team are oblivious to the fact that the only reason the Toyota's are so dominate is because of their engine program. It's simple, they have deep pockets, so they invest in all this junk to get ahead of Chevy, Ford and Dodge. Michael Waltrip cheats in 2007 Daytona 500, by putting jet fuel in his POS Toyota to try to win them a pole in "The Great AMERICAN Race". The Chevy, Ford and Dodge engines (which weren't really even proper race engines) had been built many years prior to Toyota's entrance in Trucks (2004). NASCAR allowed Toyota into NASCAR before they even had an engine that met the specs. Toyota, never having built an Overhead Valve eight cylinder push-rod engine went ahead an built a RACE engine using all the latest and greatest computer technology back in 2004, while the AMERICAN cars were left with their outdated engines. No big surprise there. No big surprise to see Toyota signs, pace cars, safety trucks, banners, all over every damn track. They have an assload of cash to spend thanks to us, the USA allowing the POS Japan based company to sell their POS Toyota's here in America, while they will not allow the USA to sell any of our cars in Japan. The only reason Toyota struggled in Cup in 2007 was because they had crappy teams, Bill Davis, Red Bull, Michael Waltrip. Once Gibbs stepped up than they started doing better. And while we're talking about Bill Davis, screw him, he is the biggest piece of sh**. Back when he was with Dodge (remember Dodge covered their branding on his cars?), he ran off to Toyota and fed them with information from his DODGE teams. So in reality, Toyota besides designing an engine that should have been illegal, they've created nothing. I hope Brian France, every Toyota employee and Bill Davis (and every other Toyota lover) all get run over by a herd of Dodge trucks. 52. My god, I know most people just joke about it, but I seriously don't think you actually watch racing. Because you sure don't ever seem to know anything about it. 54. Justin Allgaier has been the best Nationwide regular since the start of the season, he's going to be out of a ride. Brian Scott is winning ROTY, and he's out of a ride. That shows you how bad this has become. This is evidence to why NASCAR needs to change the rules in this series. A total joke these three young promising drivers are out of rides. 55. It's called NASCAR because it's the NATIONAL Association, not International, Foreign, Japan, etc. Call me a dumb redneck, hick, hillbilly, whatever you please, but if you sir are a true American citizen, you wouldn't support Toyota, or any other foreign car manufacturer. I guess just because I like AMERICAN cars, and frankly, everything American, I am a silly redneck? No wonder our economy is failing. We have people who are going out and buying foreign cars while they could be buying an American car and helping our country. I wouldn't care so much if Japan allowed us to sell our cars there, but they don't. What idiot would ever think that was a good idea? So what, Toyota has plants in the US. Where is all of the money going when an American purchases a Japanese car? Not to America. NASCAR is nothing more than entertainment these days anyway, so why even bother trying to explain something technical since it isn't really a sport anymore. By the way, has anyone else noticed how dirty the Toyota drivers in general are? 56. They should stay the hell out of an AMERICAN series. I guess we might as well ban any foreign company from sponsoring any of the cars as well, all that's doing is lining the pockets of some rich foreigners who probably hate America and all we stand for. Everything in the series should be American, every piece of the cars, every driver, every engine, every sponsor, every race should be in America (screw you, Canada, we don't need your fans). That is what NASCAR is all about! Oh, by the way, I was being sarcastic. You sir, are the problem with NASCAR. All NASCAR does is work their tail off to please idiot fans like you, when they should be going after better fans who appreciate real competition. "I wouldn't care so much if Japan allowed us to sell our cars there, but they don't" Yes, they do. Seriously, you think it's against the law in Japan to sell an American car? Turn off Fox News for 5 minutes, for christ sakes. American cars just aren't very popular because they're expensive, get poor gas mileage, and don't last nearly as long as Japanese cars. Plus, driving a behemoth of a vehicle there is just stupid, as roads are often narrower, and gas is more expensive. "So what, Toyota has plants in the US. Where is all of the money going when an American purchases a Japanese car? Not to America. " True, not ALL the money is going to America. It's a global company. But, uh, they DO pay their employees. When you buy a Toyota from an American dealer, you're keeping American workers working. People like you make this country a worse place to live, and a laughingstock in much of the world. Your ignorant xenophobic rants show a distinct lack of awareness of the rest of the world. It's possible to be a great patriot without being a uneducated backwoods paranoid hillbilly worried about "dem dang foriners", but you don't seem to know a thing about what it means to live in the real world. 58. I don't know why so many people think these young, unproven Nationwide drivers should get all these hand-outs. Waaah, they should all get a chance in a top ride! Waaaah, they shouldn't have to have a sponsor! Waaaah, the better drivers and teams win too many races, let the new inexperienced guys win for once! And here comes your famous reply of "the series is losing it's identity". And your suggestion to fix it, of course is to inject some good 'ole healthy socialism into the series, or at least that's what you're usually peddling around these threads. 60. DaleSrFanForever posted: 09.30.2010 - 9:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's not socialism, it's allowing the minor leagues to remain the minor leagues. And it isn't just for the good of this Series, it's also for the good of the Cup series. No new blood is being developed up there. They are either recycling the same drivers over and over, keeping the crappy ones they have because it is their best option, or throwing a driver that isn't ready to the wolves and waste spots for 2 or 3 years until they gain traction. Dinger is a good example of the last one, he would have been much better served to have spent '07-'09 in NWide learning stock cars, and coming up this year now that he is ready. Instead he was wasting spots in the Cup field developing, when he should have been developing in the NWide Series. Logano is another good example. These past 2 years, he has been wasting one of the Top 7 rides in NASCAR (HMS' 4 cars and JGR's 3 cars) learning the ropes, something he should have been doing in NWide. What has happened to this Series is a big reason the Cup Series, and NASCAR as a whole has been suffering. It has allowed the whole sport to become very stagnant. It has allowed people like Elliott Sadler, David Ragan, Sideways Sam, Scott Slow, and Casey Mears to keep getting and/or staying in Cup rides where in the past they would have been thrown aside for a hot shoe in the Busch/NWide Series with about 2 years under his belt there. And it has kept rides like the 2 time Cup Champion #20 team and others with developmental drivers instead of challenging for wins and championships. I'm not just making this shit up. There is a precedence for this: Look at the rookie boom from '99-'06. Every single year during this time a rookie stepped up and immediately started contending for wins, and became week in, week out contenders and sometimes eventually champions (Stewart, Kenseth, Busch, Johnson), championship contenders (June, Harvick, Biffle, Hamlin) or at the very least contenders for wins for years down the road (Newman, McMurray, Bowyer, Kahne). All these guys were developed in Busch or the Trucks, or a combination of both. These guys came in and provided new blood while a wave of longtime veteran drivers either retired or faded into the backdrop of irrelevance. Drivers like Earnhardt (he probably would have retired before '06), Rusty, both Labonte Brothers, Awesome Bill, Ricky Rudd, DJ, Sterling, Bobby Hamilton, and Ward either retired, died, or became irrelevant from '99 to '06. But there were new, developed guys waiting. But now? Ugh. If drivers like Bayne, Allgaier, Scott, Willie Allen, Kelly Bires, and Michael Annett were given fair shots to compete for wins in the minor leagues, and not having major leaguers take 97% of the wins and the championships, they could be called up to Cup with proper experience and replace drivers like David Ragan, Elliott Sadler, June, Mark (when he retires), and others as they fade out. Socialism? No. Allow it to be the minor leagues, the last step before the big show, Cup. Do you see Tom Brady going back and playing for Michigan on Saturdays, piling up BCS titles and college passing records? Of course not. He's focued on winning his 4th Super Bowl ring. Because he's moved past that level and established himself on the top level. Make NASCAR like every other sport out there with a few exceptions. Keep half the races as companion races like in the old days, allowing the new guys the chance to race against the best to really test themselves, but don't allow the Cup drivers to totally take over and use this Series as their playground. Just like the past when the system worked. 61. Eric posted: 09.30.2010 - 5:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Trevor Bayne has signed Roush for the 17 Nationwide car. Trevor Bayne said is long term. The Nationwide series was created as a development series. Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Elliott Sadler, Kasey Kahne, etc. do NOT need development. This series has become so watered down over the last few years. Look at all the start and parks, we had 4 cars pull off before we completed five laps. There is really only three of four cars with a real chance of winning every weekend, AT BEST. That's why you get races like this where Kyle Busch leads 96% of the laps. Now you have the three most promising Nationwide regulars getting kicked out of rides. How can ANYONE seriously think this is good for the sport? You have to be a Kyle Busch or Carl Edwards fan to seriously think this series is in good condition. 63. Junebug posted: 10.01.2010 - 7:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Why does everyone assume that the Nationwide series is loaded with young talent destined for the Cup series being held back by Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards presence? I watch all the races and from I can tell, the only guys that I think have the talent to make it in Cup are Justin Allgaier and Trevor Bayne. And I GUARANTEE that they will make it to Cup in some form. Seriously, you think the ladder up to Cup is broken because of the Cup guys in Nationwide? No, if you're good, you'll get noticed, and you'll get your shot. If this series is supposed to be only a developmental series, then you better start complaining about Kenny Wallace, Morgan Shepard, Jason Leffler, Mike Bliss, Mike Wallace, Tony Raines, Joe Nemechek, Mark Green, Jason Keller, Derrick Cope, David Gilliland, Johnny Chapman, Dennis Setzer, Jeff Green, Hermie Sadler, Kevin Lepage, Carl Long, and all the others who don't need any more time "developing" or have already wasted their chances in Cup. Those are all rides that developmental drivers could be driving, right? And let's say Busch, Edwards, and Keselowski stopped running Nationwide series altogether, and new drivers moved into their old rides. You just assume that Gibbs, Roush, and Penske could find cars for these new drivers in Cup? Roush is already packed, Gibbs/Penske could each expand one ride, but who guarantees that they could find sponsorship for it? And what happens to the guys after the guys that replace Busch and Keselowski, once Gibbs and Penske are packed? Where do they go? Where are all these empty Cup rides in desperate need of some new talent, that everyone assumes should be filled by a Nationwide driver? Drivers don't usually run really well in Nationwide for one team, and switch to a different one once they get to Cup. Keselowski had to, because Hendrick is already full. But he showed the ability to beat the Cup guys when he was Nationwide only driver, and got his shot. The problems with the Nationwide series go back to when all the young guns came into Cup from 99-06. The Cup series is still packed with those guys, and other successful veterans still years away from retirement. There just aren't hardly any rides in Cup worth a damn that need a new driver. So that is a problem, and finding sponsors is a problem, in both Nationwide and Cup, because there just isn't much of a need for new talent in Cup right now, at least not in the rides that these few good Nationwide drivers would want. If you think the only problem with the series sagging popularity is Busch and Edwards, you are a simple-minded moron who can't see the big picture and are just looking for an easy scapegoat. 64.
