The champions in the first two races finished 4th and then 3rd. Maybe that means the Cup champion will finish second in the race. Friday night: #18 won, #33 finished second. Saturday night: #18 won, #33 finished second. Maybe we could have a Ky. Busch-Bowyer 1-2 finish. 2. He ran strong all day during this race, and hopefully he carries that momentum into next season. I'm not necessarily a fan of his, but I'm just glad to see some Nationwide regulars succeeding. Trevor Bayne deserves a shout-out as well. What he's done in that unspnsored #17 is impressive, no matter if he is driving for Roush or not. Cole Whitt managed to get another top-20 finish. Brad Keselowski receives his championship trophy and has his celebration. Congrats to him on an ultra-consistent NW season. 3. 18fan posted: 11.20.2010 - 11:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brad set the record for most top 5s in a season, breaking the record shared by, ironically, race winner Kyle Busch and last place finisher Jeff Green. If you saw clips of Stenhouse at the beginning of the season and Stenhouse now, you would think they were two different drivers. 4. I just might have to stop calling him Wrecky Crashhouse if he keeps up this whole not-tearing-up-cars philosophy. 5. suomynonA posted: 11.20.2010 - 11:36 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Lead lap finish for Morgan Shepherd. 6. 18fan posted: 11.20.2010 - 11:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If I counted right, this was the 10th race in which Kyle Busch scored max points. 7. He never won in his return to full time Nationwide duty, having a best finish of 3rd in the summer Nashville race, but the extra seat time probably led to some his recent good runs in Cup. - Justin Allgaier with the #12 Verizon team. The sponsor is leaving the #12, so that's another team that's going away for next year. He won 1 race in two full years of driving and showed a lot of improvement this year. However, I'm not so sure that his new team will be an improvement for him. - The #21 team, which used to dominate the series years ago, winning a championship in 2006. - Citifinancial and the #6 after clinching ROTY, they will sponsor Sadler in the #2 Chevy next year. - Brendan Gaughan in the Nationwide series, he will take his sponsorship to a Germain Toyota truck next year. He finished behind his teammate in both years an scored less top 10s, however he scored more top 5s than Steve has his whole career. - Carl Edwards and Copart, after winning two of the last three races with their sponsorship. A case of too little, too late perhaps. This is the second sponsor he has lost in the last two years, Save-a-Lot left after 2009. - Most importantly, this is the final race with this current style of car, the muscle cars will roll out next year at Daytona. I don't think that will do much to stop the #18's dominance of the series. It's not a stretch to say that Homestead provides some of the best side by side racing of any track in the sport, and provides a good setting to close out the season, I hope they don't change any of it. 9. awesomegordonfan posted: 11.21.2010 - 6:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 18fan, you wish. Neither of them will win the championship or the race. Nice runs by Busch and Harvick, who dominated at the end, or let's say last 170 laps. Kudos to Stenhouse for ROTY, Keselowski for the championship and record 26 top-5s, Busch for his record 13 wins, Morgan Shepherd in probably his last rice for RCR, Danica for her first lead lap finish and top 20, and Jeff Green for never finishing a race in the 36 car. I can't wait to see the Nationwide guys start to win races and championships like they're supposed to. 10. If you are looking for the true definition of "improvement", look to him. Good finish for Bayne, most likely the future Cup driver for Roush. Good finish by Cole Whitt when you consider they weren't even planning on running this race and brought their Phoenix car (I watched the qualifying race, that's how I know this). Kyle Busch ties Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson for "NASCAR championship celebrations". He has celebrated two split owner's titles in NWide ('08 and '10), an NWide driver's title ('09) and a Truck Series owners title ('10). Up next for him to pass is Harvick who has 5 "NASCAR celebrations" with 2 Busch driver titles ('01 and '06) plus a split owner's title in Busch ('03) as well as two owner titles in the Truck Series ('07 and '09). Of course all of Gordon's and Johnson's celebrations came in the Cup Series, but that is a minor detail. 11. DaleSrFanForever posted: 11.21.2010 - 5:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Whoops. That lasted less than 24 hours. Kyle is now behind Johnson for year end NASCAR celebrations total. 12. DaleSrFanForever posted: 11.21.2010 - 7:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That's true, but I seriously doubt Jeff did much celebrating for the 48's titles. The fact that they started the 48 team from scratch to be a sister team to the 24 (basically to be Jeff's wingman) only to have them immediately start outperforming them, yank the torch for NASCAR's premier team right out of their hands, then surpass Jeff's championship total in just 9 seasons, that is a black eye for Jeff's career. The fact that they were able to just say to Jeff "OK, our pit crew sucks, your's is awesome, so we are giving you the crappy one for the rest of the year and we're taking the good one" is something I never thought I'd see. 10 years ago, Jeff would have NEVER let this happen. Now he's just resigned to it. He ended up being JJ's wingman. 14. Anonymous posted: 11.22.2010 - 2:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Steve Wallace has a great race running as high as 3rd. His car was great on short runs, but the last run was 23 laps and he fell all the way to 15th. 15. Talon64 posted: 11.22.2010 - 6:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kyle Busch wins his 43rd career Nationwide race and series-record 13th of the season. JGR wins the owners championship for the 3rd consecutive season since they went to Toyota. Kevin Harvick's 34th career runner-up finish moves him into the all time lead ahead of Jack Ingram. Kyle Busch is 4th with 28. Brad Keselowski's championship season set new career highs across board: 6 wins, 26 top fives, 29 top tens, 5 poles, 1147 laps led, 8.4 avg start and 5.2 avg fin. His average finish is the 3rd best ever by a Nationwide champion (Sam Ard and Kevin Harvick the two who better him), but it's more realistic to say it's 2nd best over this 5 year stretch of Cup drivers winning the championship (again, only Harvick did better). Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clinches the 2010 Nationwide ROTY award with his rookie-best 3rd top five and 8th top ten of the season (all but 1 top ten coming in his last 20 starts). Trevor Bayne made his 50th career Nationwide start, getting his first top ten and top five with Roush. Carl Edwards finishes 2nd in the Nationwide standings for the 4th time in the last 5 seasons, but in 3 of those years the champion clinched with a race or more to go. Joey Logano won his series-leading 8th pole of the season, and 15th in just 66 career Nationwide starts. Joey ended up with 24 top tens in 25 starts and a series-best 4.9 average finish. Brendan Gaughan finishes 8th in his last race with Rusty Wallace Racing. He had 6 top fives and 17 top tens in 70 starts with them. Paul Menard finishes a career-best 5th in the Nationwide standings, picking up his 60th career top ten in 135 Nationwide starts. Although it won't be made official until January, it looks like Cup drivers won't be able to compete for the Nationwide championship anymore. So here's what you could call the top 10 in the series-regular standings for 2010 to see who some of the favorites could be for 2011: 1st: Justin Allgaier 4679 2nd: Reed Sorenson 4673 (if he'd run the full season) 3rd: Trevor Bayne 4041 (full time with Roush next year) 4th: Jason Leffler 3941 5th: Steve Wallace 3940 6th: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 3739 (if he'd run all the races) 7th: Michael Annett 3651 (driving for RWR in 2011) 8th: Brian Scott 3525 (but he'll be driving for JGR next year) 9th: Mike Bliss 3450 10th: Tony Raines 3402 Then of course there's Elliott Sadler and Aric Almirola who'll be racing full time in the series next year. 16. ii posted: 11.23.2010 - 4:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Most importantly, this is the final race with this current style of car, the muscle cars will roll out next year at Daytona. After a few races, yes, the 18 will be on the top spot. But, in the beginning of the season, I expect Penske, KHI, or even JR Motorsports up front from Daytona to Chicagoland. No one has mentioned this, but Hornish was in his first double-duty race in over 2 years. 17. They by no means struggled with it this year. But I do think those teams you just mentioned could present more of a challenge for them next season. 19. ii posted: 11.24.2010 - 6:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @18 Yes, but in the regular season, Kyle had 13 wins in the old car in the 25 races he ran in it. He was in the top-10 every race, but that's because of the lack of experience of some drivers. 20. His Penske teammate Justin Allgaier had 17th, 4th, 12th and 3rd place finishes, leading just one race for 2 laps. Kevin Harvick had a win, a 5th and two 10th, leading 175 laps (170 at Richmond where he won). Dale Jr. with JRM has the remaining win. Carl Edwards finished 11th, 2nd, 10th and 13th, leading just 21 laps. Joey Logano had 2nd, 6th and 4th place finishes in 3 COT races, leading only 9 laps. And Kyle Busch finished 7th, 3rd, 9th and 6th, leading 117 laps. Penske and KHI seem to have a noticeable edge with everyone else playing a bit of catch up. 21. potatosalad48 posted: 01.11.2011 - 3:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Nascar finally does something right! No one did it, when they were just Xfinity and Cup races in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and no one did it in the 2002-2015 era. That means Kyle Busch was the only driver, who got really close, but failed to win the Cup race in 2010. That also means that Atlanta and Kentucky are the only remaining tracks, where no one has swept all the races during the weekend. And it's difficult as hell, because both tracks have only one Cup date and they always run a tripleheader. So it's basically just on Kyle to get it done someday, if he arranges his schedule to those races. 39.
