Cup drivers caused his crash by going 3 wide with him and Aric couldn't do to prevent that. Darlington never was a track for that a first place and it can be argued. What happened there was the cup drivers weren't racing for points and was doing stuff that they normally wouldn't on the cup side on Darlington. 11. roygbiv posted: 05.06.2011 - 11:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) During the ESPN pre-race show, Dale Jarrett asked Bud Moore if he could pick one driver to start a team with, who he would pick. I think the solution to the Buschwhacking problem should simply be that a driver in the top 35 in drivers' points in Cup can't compete in any other NASCAR-sanctoned events on a weekend in which he's entered in a Cup race, unless he's a Cup rookie or replacing an injured driver during the course of a weekend. 14. irony posted: 05.06.2011 - 11:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Probably the most start and parks since Pike's Peak 2003. Allgaier will give him a battle though. Blake Koch is impressing me. Cup drivers don't really seem to care about the points battle as Almirola said. For the other 43 races he won he was driving for Cup affiliated teams, exactly like Kyle has. In fact, it was Mark Martin and Jack Roush who not-so-arguably began the Cup team invasion on the series. Running 40-50% of the Busch Series schedule given the balance of non-companion events, didn't help Mark compete for the Busch title. "Mark and the Winn-Dixie 60 always stayed out of the title fight. The way the Winston Cup and the Busch schedule were back then, they could only run a little over half the races. There was no way to go for the title plus they didn't get so many weeks of experience in those Busch cars so the regulars had that advantage over them. In all fairness to Kyle, Carl, Brad, Kevin, Clint, and everyone else who has made a mockery of this Series at any point by going for the championship while competing full time in Cup, the schedule didn't really allow this until 2001. Otherwise other Cup regulars definitely would have tried the same. But it still sucks. 29. With all due respect, I'm going to trust the opinion of Bud Moore over some random nobody on the internet, who has no actual experience driving a stock car or being involved in the daily operations of a team. Maybe, just maybe, legends like Bud Moore, or Bobby Allison (who has said he loves Kyle's ability to switch between a Truck, Nationwide, and Cup car on the same weekend and has called Kyle "the best talent I've seen in a long while"), or David Pearson (who once said he'd love to race today so he could go up against "'ole Kyle Busch"), or Darrel Waltrip (who's man-love of Busch is obvious to anyone who's watched a race in years), or any of the other legends who heap praise upon Busch, maybe they know what they are talking about and you don't. Have you ever come to that conclusion? Maybe these guys, who understand the pressures of racing, and also understand with the disappointments, don't judge Kyle so harshly because he's lost his temper after losing a race. Maybe they've been there before themselves, but since there wasn't constantly media surrounding them wherever they went in those days, it isn't so well documented. Maybe since they've actually met and spoken with Busch, they know he's a decent guy, so all they see on the track is a great talent and not all the baggage everyone else attaches to Busch. Maybe since they know what the hell they are talking about, they are fans of Busch, because they can see that what he's doing is impressive, and you just hate him because the media focuses on him more than your favorite driver. Maybe your constant need to find every possible reason not to be impressed with Busch is just getting pathetic. Let's take a poll. Who's opinion of Kyle Busch does everyone here respect more? Bud Moore or DaleSrFanForever? How about Bobby Allison or DaleSrFanForever? How about David "The Silver Fox" Pearson or DaleSrFanForever. They aren't "drinking the kool aid", they just know what they are talking about. They know enough not to let the media-driven image of Kyle Busch ruin their opinion. They can watch the races, and understand that they are seeing a great driver, maybe one who reminds them a little of themselves when they were that age. 30. beau posted: 05.07.2011 - 2:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) another race i'm glad i missed. 31. DaleSrFanForever posted: 05.08.2011 - 9:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Who's opinion of Kyle Busch does everyone here respect more? Bud Moore or DaleSrFanForever?" After the Cup race, my opinion is looking a lot better than Bud's. Here is the deal: Bud was an owner back when drivers weren't making obscene amounts of money and did it truly for the love of racing. They also had to come up the hard way and gained a lot of maturity from that. Plus the owners and crews weren't totally overshadowed by the driver. They could rein in their drivers. I think Bud is thinking that he could rein in Kyle. With all of his natural driving ability, if he would just use his head there is no telling what he could accomplish. Bud thinks he could use his position as an owner, longtime NASCAR figure, and true American hero to get Kyle to listen to him like he could in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The best example I can think of is when Junior Johnson was able to calm Darrell down and turn him into a champion. The fact is he couldn't do that nowadays. The drivers get paid way too much, have way too many ass kissers hanging on to them, telling them how great they are trying to get a piece of that pie, and sponsorship programs are based solely on the driver. Kyle has had everyone telling him how great he is since he was 16, if not younger. He obviously doesn't take any advice Coach Joe Gibbs gives him, he wouldn't listen to Bud either. As far as Kyle Busch is concerned, the universe revolves around Kyle Busch, and all other occupants of the universe not named Kyle Busch need to kneel at the altar of Kyle Busch. Bud needs to realize this. Kyle is unreachable. Kyle would just wreck all of Bud's equipment, blame Bud and his team publically, then have to spend the second half of the season recovering from injuries sustained when Bud beat the shit out of him. Besides, we can't forget Bud had both Bobby Allison and Dale Earnhardt walk away from his organization in the early 80s because he wouldn't switch to GM from Ford. Remember, back then the Fords were very unreliable. Bobby says he begged Bud to switch to GM, but he wouldn't so Bobby left and won a championship 3 years later. And Dale said in a 1984 interview he wanted to be in a Chevy because they were more reliable and his best bet for championships were in Chevys (I'd say he was right). Like Bobby, he left Bud because he didn't want to drive Fords. So as much as I respect Bud for his unwavering dedication to NASCAR, for the fact he is a true racer, and most importantly an American hero that protected our freedom, just because he says it doesn't mean it is gospel. The bottom line is that Bud, like many before him, have been blinded by Kyle's out of this world talent and looked past his 12 year old prima donna short tempered mindset. It is understandable. You can't teach fast. Kyle has the kind of talent that can carry a borderline Top 5 car to victory lane. Any owner would salivate over that. But he also needs to realize Kyle can get pissed and turn a winning car into a midpack finish and a lot of enemies. The Cup race showed that. That is why Rick Hendrick dropped him. After the Texas incident, he knew his organization was better off without all the unnecessary headaches he caused. So, "Anonymous", here is the poll you really need to take: Whose opinion do you respect more: Bud Moore's or Rick Hendrick's? 39. Denny Hamlin's streak of 3 consecutive NNS wins at Darlington comes to an end, but he finishes 2nd for his 4th top 2 finish in 7 starts dating back to last season. The #20 JGR team now has a 34 point lead in the owners standings over the #33 KHI team, with JGR's #18 now up to 3rd and 39 points back. Turner Motorsports is the best non-Cup organization in the standings with the #32 in 4th and the #31 in 5th. Elliott Sadler led a season-high 23 laps, finished a season-best 3rd and tied his career-high with his 6th top 5 of the season (6 in 30 races in 1997). He's tied with Kyle Busch for the most top 5's this season, albeit Kyle hasn't finished worse than 2nd in his while Sadler hasn't finished better than 3rd. Justin Allgaier has back-to-back top 5's for the first time this season, and first since he finished 3rd at Charlotte and Gateway last October. He's on pace to better his career-high top 5 and top 10 totals from last season with Penske (10 top 5's, 21 top 10's versus 8 and 20). Steve Wallace gets just his 5th career top 5 in 167 Nationwide starts, and his first top 10 of the season (30th of his career). Since starting out part time in 2006 his 5 top fives rank him in a tie for 36th (tied for 14th among regulars). Clint Bowyer finishes in the top 10 for the 2nd time in 3 starts this season, the 8th for the #33 KHI team. Kasey Kahne gets his 2nd top 10 in 4 starts in the #38 Turner team in 2011. Reed Sorenson has 4 top 10's in the last 5 races, the other finish being a 12th. Jason Leffler gets his 5th top 10 of the season, but since finishing 6th at Daytona he hasn't finished better than 8th. But he's the only driver this season to have top 15's in all 10 races. Leffler needs 1 more top 10 to become the 26th driver in series history to hit the 100 milestone. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. gets his series-leading 7th top 10 of the season (tied with Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch, but he's tops among series regulars). He only needs 1 more top 10 to equal his total in 32 starts in 2010. Kenny Wallace's 6th top 15 finish of the season has him on pace for his best finish in the Nationwide points standings since he was 7th in points in 2005. Joe Nemechek records his 3rd straight top 20 finish and 4th top 15 finish of the season (only 2 top 15's in 33 starts last season). Scott Riggs' 13th place finish is the best for the #23 team since Jean Francois Dumoulin finished 7th at Montreal in 2009. Danny Efland finished a career-best 16th, his first top 20 finish in 33 Nationwide starts. Chris Buescher finishes 17th for a 2nd straight race subbing in for Trevor Bayne in the #16 Roush car, although neither was on the lead lap. Blake Koch was the highest finishing rookie in the race, getting just his 2nd top 20 finish of the season; he's 3rd out of 5 drivers in the ROTY standings but that's having run 1 less race than current ROTY leader Timmy Hill, and Ryan Truex is 2nd having run 2 less races. Speaking of Timmy Hill, the 18 y/o also got his 2nd top 20 finish of the season in 19th. Carl Edwards' 20th place finish puts the #60 back to 6th in the owners standings, 53 points out of the lead. And Brad Keselowski's crash in that Almirola incident resulted in a 27th place finish, knocking the #22 down to 10th and 80 points out. So anyone who wants to see a series-regular win a race this season better hope they sink like a rock in the owners standings so they abandon running full time this season. 40. Rusty posted: 05.12.2011 - 8:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The series is just so predictable anymore, and you just get the feeling there is only a couple of cars in the field that have a real chance of winning (the two Gibbs cars, the #60, and sometimes the #33). There just is so many teams in these races anymore that aren't competitive and too many start park without even putting down 20 laps. The bad economy has a lot to do with it, but the Cup teams and drivers are contributing big and NASCAR refuses to do much to change it. The new points system doesn't change much, it will just reward possibly the worst NASCAR champion ever. They don't even have to put an official limit on races Cup guys can run, but can they please change the horrible schedule for this series? Like I pointed out in the Richmond page, during All Star weekend the Nationwide series will be racing in Iowa...ON SUNDAY! This makes no sense for two reasons 1)Why in the world is there a Nationwide race on a Sunday to begin with? I understand when they did it for Mexico City since there was no Cup race and it was a big event at the time, but a May race in Iowa??? 2)By putting it on Sunday they are pretty much allowing all the Cup drivers to run and are practically proving to everyone that they WANT the Cup guys in these races. Why in the world would they have a Nationwide race in Iowa on a Sunday? By holding it on Saturday afternoon like they should they would prevent Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, etc from running and ruining another race. Unless they wanted to risk potentially missing the All Star race and in Brad's case he has to run the Showdown which is like two hours earlier and he would have no way of making both. There's just way too many companion events in this series and in the few weekends they aren't, NASCAR goes out of their way to make sure the Cup guys can get in and race. By mixing up the schedule, they are making the constant double dipping near impossible. There's no need for this series to have two races at tracks like Texas, Phoenix, etc. anyways. Bring in more short tracks and have more races with long flights for Cup guys and this will start to die down. They need to do the same with the Trucks, they've ruined the idenity of that series by eliminating all small short tracks off the schedule and putting a bunch of cookie cutter Cup companion dates on there. 41. 00andJoe posted: 07.20.2011 - 3:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #41 and #75 sponsor: Lilly Trucking of Virginia (same for #41 at Phoenix and Nashville races) 42.
