A lot of different leaders but the Cup guys dominated pretty much the entire time. I had some hope that Stenhouse would be able to pull back Edwards at the end when he passed Kyle, but that faded away quickly. Congrats to Carl though on his 35th Nationwide win. 2. 18fan posted: 09.03.2011 - 11:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think it's official that Roush is now the dominant team in Nationwide, at least on the intermediate tracks. I know Kyle Busch has led only 230 less laps than Carl in seven less starts, but over 44% of the laps Kyle has led this year in NNS were at Bristol. 3. He is having easily his most dominant season in this series in the one year where Cup drivers are ineligible for the championship. This race marks one year since the #88 team won a race, and I'm disappointed in the seasons by Almirola (my preseason pick to win the championship) and Sadler. I would have thought both would have won by now and would have led the points, but all they seem to do is finish between 8th-10th without ever really challenging the Cup guys. I hope they turn it around real soon. Jamie McMurray might have been able to defend his win from last year were it not for tire issues. 6. potatosalad48 posted: 09.03.2011 - 11:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Did anyone else see Carl Edwards hit his head going out the gate to the track? 7. 00andJoe posted: 09.03.2011 - 11:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #88 sponsor: Hellmann's/Race In To Win #87 sponsor: D.A.B. Sure, he hasn't won a race yet, but him and Stenhouse are pretty much always the two NNS regulars that can contend with the Cup guys. I thought this was a pretty good race. Atlanta seems to be becoming the new version of the old Darlington. It's that classic, worn-out place that all of the drivers love. Hopefully they won't be idiotic and repave it, as they are doing to several other tracks. As for the Allgaier-Sorenson incident, Justin simply made a major mistake. And unfortunately, it's one that is going to give the 32 team a colossal hit in the points. Now they're almost a full race out under this new system. Also, Ryan Truex had a great effort in his first race in the 20 car. I'm glad to see JGR putting another young guy in that car for a handful of races, instead of just letting Logano run the majority of them. 9. Sure he's improved alot from where he started the season, and he's a much better fit for JRM as apposed to Kelly Bires, but he's not a Brad Keselowski type driver. He's consistant, and that's about it. He lacks the killer instinct that Ricky Stenhouse, or even Justin Allgaier has. Even in the truck series he lacked that despite winning 2 races, hence Todd Bodine pretty much owning him in the standings. I just hope he gets that agressiveness so he can compete for wins next year. 12. Not that it means much seeing as he is a Cup driver, but I'm just saying. Ricky Stenhouse shows me once again why I keep hoping for him to win the championship as opposed to Sadler or Sorenson, he finishes up front and contends with the leaders while Sadler and Sorenson rack up points by collecting 5th-10th place finishes most of the time. 13. Disagree with you on Sadler, he's a 10 year Cup veteran with a proven crew chief, so its not unreasonable to expect that he would have had at least one win this year. Stenhouse is able to lead a lot and can go head to head with the #18 and #60 I haven't seen that out of Sadler. "I just hope he gets that agressiveness so he can compete for wins next year." You're right, even last year his two truck wins came as a result of him taking the lead with less than ten to go, as opposed to dominating races the way Kyle did with the #51 truck. He's still a talented driver and a nice guy, so I hope he somehow manages to pull off a win this year. 14. Sadler has had some standout races where he was better than the 18 and 60... in fact, I believe it was Chicago that he really should've won. However, Stenhouse has led more laps than Sadler and has generally been in the hunt more. I think part of this can be attributed to Roush being well ahead of KHI in the Nationwide Series this year, but Stenhouse might also have more raw talent. Only time will tell how far Stenhouse's career takes him. 15. I was expecting better. But it was still better racing than most tracks. Roush definitely has the NWide stuff figured out. Along with Carl, both Ricky and Trevor looked to be factors at one point. Shame about Trevor. I think the championship is Ricky's. Elliott has bought into the Kevin Harvick/RCR mentality of "whatever you do, just don't screw up, if you win it is purely a bonus" mentality. Problem is, this isn't Cup. You have to attack, you can't rely on enough people messing up over 3-4 hours to back into a win. What is the deal with KHI for next year? The ESPN guys were making it sound dire. And what is up with Roush and sponsorship? They only have Carl sponsored for half the races next year at this point (that will undeniably change, but for all that was put into re-signing him, you would think they would be able to take care of that before now), their best driver, Kenseth, has no clue what his sponsorship deal will be next year, and now UPS is leaving. I understand 100% not wanting to sponsor Ragan anymore, but why wouldn't Jack yell "you guys can have Matt next year"? 22. DaleSrFanForever posted: 09.04.2011 - 8:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm also disappointed in Almirola's season, but I think a lot of that is JR Motorsports. I just don't think they are that good. Granted I am a Keselowski homer, so take this for what it is worth, but I think Brad made them look a lot better than they really are. Look at how much better he has done with a start up Penske Racing team. 23. murb posted: 09.04.2011 - 2:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "What is the deal with KHI for next year?" Well, I've heard that they aren't gonna have any Truck teams next year. I know for a fact that they are keeping the 33 NNS car thanks to Menards, and I'm pretty sure that Elliott is signed through next year too. So I assume they are just going to have the two NNS cars. Pretty sure ESPN was just blowing stuff out of proportion like always. "And what is up with Roush and sponsorship?" I've been thinking the same thing. I was really hoping UPS would go to Carl's car full time, and then maybe Fastenal could have been on Kenseth's car for the majority of the season. But now UPS is downgrading its sponsorship, and Fastenal is on Carl's car. I think it just goes to show yet again what a horrible business man Jack Roush is. On paper, all of his teams make him look really good. But pretty much every year it seems like they have sponsorship issues. I wouldn't be surprised if they just get rid of the 6 car. That would be disappointing to me, since some of my earliest memories of Nascar were Mark Martin wheeling the Valvoline car. But I really wouldn't be surprised to see them just can that car, and see Ragan go somewhere else. Maybe he could go to the new Red Bull team if they can find an investor... 24. Matthew Sullivan posted: 09.04.2011 - 3:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think JRM's biggest problem has been getting adjusted to the new car. It's no coincidence that the big teams (Roush, Gibbs, Penske) are the ones who have been dominant. They have all the resources and while JRM does have Hendrick support, it's completely different when you're running in a shop whereas all the resources are in another shop. On the other hand, Harvick's team has definitely adapted quicker than Junior's. I think JRM had the old car figured out the best of all Nationwide only teams. 25. 12345Dude posted: 09.04.2011 - 5:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) "What is the deal with KHI for next year?" Then Brad and Rusty did their routine of acting like the sky was falling (seriously, can they just get rid of that damn infield studio?). I was just wondering exactly what the deal is. "I think it just goes to show yet again what a horrible business man Jack Roush is." Ain't that the damn truth! His track record beginning in the late 90s has been horrible as far as keeping sponsors. It will be interesting to see how he handles it for next year. Obviously Carl will be his #1 priority considering Ford just paid tons of $$$ to keep him away from JGR and Toyota. They will pressure Jack big time to get him sponsored. Matt, although he is Jack's best bet for a championship, will be second. Jack's inability to market Matt is probably his biggest embarrassment. Matt has been stuck with the "boring" tag his whole career due to his dry Mid Western wit, but he is actually one of the funniest guys out there, and a Metallica loving, Harley riding badass. " wouldn't be surprised if they just get rid of the 6 car. That would be disappointing to me, since some of my earliest memories of Nascar were Mark Martin wheeling the Valvoline car." Same here. My earliest NASCAR memories are in '89, which had that #6 Stroh's car. It will be awful if it has to go for a while. Hopefully something can be found. 27. 12345Dude posted: 09.04.2011 - 6:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) "I'm also disappointed in Almirola's season, but I think a lot of that is JR Motorsports. When someone does good in the truck series, it overates them. The truck series is a lot easier then people think. For example... You would say people like Aric Armirola, Parker Kligerman there goal is to succeed in cup. Right? Look at the TOP drivers in truck series history. Look at their cup stats. And these are the TOP drivers in truck series history. What's I'm trying is the truck series is a lot easier then people realize. I'm not trying to put the league down it's my favorite nascar league. But I think it has overated current drivers like Brian Scott,Colin Braun, Aric Armirola,James Buescher, Austin Dillion & Joey Coulter. 28. Talon64 posted: 09.06.2011 - 7:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Carl Edwards picked up his 35th career Nationwide win, putting him 2 back of Kevin Harvick for 3rd all time. Since 2005, Carl and Kyle Busch have combined to win 80 of 236 Nationwide races (33.9%). This is the 16th time in Nationwide that Carl and Kyle have finished 1-2, although I'm don't know what the head-to-head record is. But it's his 31st runner-up finish, tying him with Greg Biffle for 3rd all time. Ricky Stenhouse gets his first top 10 in the 4 races since his 2nd Iowa win. But it's his 11 top 5 of the year, leading all NNS-only drivers, and his 18 top 10's are just one off of Carl Edwards for the most in the series. Kevin Harvick finishes 4th in his first NNS start in 7 races. He becomes the first driver in NNS history to reach 200 career top 10's. Fellow KHI driver Ron Hornaday Jr. also became the first to hit 200 top 10's in the Trucks this year. Kasey Kahne notched his 4th top 5 in 8 Nationwide starts this season (2 in the #38 Turner car, 2 in the #7 JRM car). Justin Allgier got just his 2nd top 10 in the last 6 races, with no top 5's in that span. Brad Keselowski made his first Nationwide start since injuring himself in the testing crash; he qualified on the front row for a 4th straight start but settled for 7th, his 14th top 10 in 21 starts this year. Jason Leffler has top 10's in 5 of his 6 starts in the #30 this season (9.0 avg fin, 13.9 in 20 starts in the #38). Elliott Sadler finished in the top 10 for a 5th straight race but hasn't finished better than 8th in the last 4, including three 10th's. Ryan Truex was the highest finishing rookie in 11th, making his first start since Chicagoland at the start of June. It's his 3rd top 15 finish in 11 starts this season. Jeremy Clements tied his best finish of the season in 14th, his 2nd top 15 of the season. 33. Talon64 posted: 09.06.2011 - 7:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) and now for Aric Almirola.
