He did a good job staying out of trouble and not not wrecking cars, if he had a better team I'd say he'd be a lot more competitive. On Ford Championship Weekend, Ford wins the driver and owner's championship and ROTY, after having clinched the manufacturer's championship at Texas. Final race for: 1) KHI. Their only win this year came in Tony Stewart's annual Nationwide one off at Daytona this year. Sadler never finished better than 3rd, which was disappointing since I thought he would easily win the championship. Out of their 10 wins, half of them came at Daytona/Talladega with Stewart/Labonte. 2) RWI as a two car team. Losing 5 Hour Energy is going to affect them in a big way. Homestead provides what is by far the best racing on a 1.5 mile track. Cars can run anywhere they want, the battle for the lead usually involves multiple cars, and it isn't just a clean air track. 13. cjs3872 posted: 11.19.2011 - 9:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Interesting that they [ESPN] mentioned that, with Stenhouse winning the Nationwide Series title, that Roush might put Stenhouse in the Wood Brothers' car for next year to get him Cup experience ,and take Trevor Bayne out of that car and focus on him winning the Nationwide Series title next year. Frankly, I hope that doesn't happen until AFTER next year's Daytona 500, if it happens at all. Remember that Bayne has exemptions for the All-Star Race next year and the Budweiser Shootout for as long as he continues to race, unless the Budweiser Shootout exemption formula changes, because ANY driver that has a points paying win is guaranteed a spot in the Budweiser Shootout. Of course, if Roush doesn't intend on running the no. 6 car full-time next year, he could slide Bayne into that car for some of the marquee events [i.e. the Southern 500, the Coca-Cola 600, the All-Star Race, Brickyard 400, etc.]. Bayne was doing okay in tonight's race before he got into the wall trying to make up time after yet another botched pit stop [how many of those did he have this year in the Nationwide Series when he was running well?], this time, a fuel-only stop. [How they botched a fuel-only pit stop boggles the mind.] Certainly, some of those were his fault [speeding, overshooting the pits, etc.], but a driver can only take so many botched pit stops. [Remember how he was critical of his pit crew at Richmond, not to mention three consecutive botched pit stops at Iowa earlier in the year.] Just imagine if he was driving for A.J. Foyt and had good runs repeatedly foiled by botched pit stops? On the other hand, can you imagine if tomorrow's race is even half as exciting as tonight's was? For a great majority of the race [not the entire race, but a great majority of it], we had battles all over the place, with cars running all over the place [in a good way], which proves my point about the progressive banking being a good thing, a fact that several posters [I won't mention them] disagreed with me about last week. Any time you have cars running multiple grooves, how can that be anything but good for racing, because that gives drivers options as to where they want to run. They're not dictated where they can run based on the track, which is why tracks like Michigan, California, most of the 1.5 mile tracks, and even the remodeled Bristol are such big hits with the drivers. You can race close without having to run into each other. 14. Anybody notice how David Stremme went backwards after taking just two tires when everyone else took four, thats what is supposed to happen Good Year, the addition of some tire wear made handling more of a factor, and most of the shuffling for position(which was constant) happened on the track, fast cars like Elliott Sadler were able to get through traffic and slow cars went backwards regardless of how much clean air they had. Congratulations to Ricky Stenhouse Jr(Drivers Championship), Jack Roush(Owners Championship), and Timmy Hill the Rookie of the year. I have high hopes for a race like this tomorrow. One Main Financial (formerly Citifinancial) left Ricky last year for what everyone thought was a better opportunity. Though Ricky did deserve the championship (unlike Austin) I think a lot of it had to do with Roush's superiority this year. My hope is that Almirola will win it next year. The #18 car just didn't show the raw speed and dominance that they had in the past two years, and they haven't won a race since early September. I think you'll see Jason Ratcliff in the Cup series soon, he's too good of a talent to keep in Nationwide forever. Last race for Carl and Brad's full time Nationwide efforts. Both of them, along with Kyle are supposed to cut back next year. Also last race for Jason Leffler in the Great Clips #38. Bayne [2011 Daytona 500] at Texas and Hornish [2006 Indianapolis 500] at Phoenix. The others, while with Cup drivers in the race [except for Reed Sorenson's win at Road America, though that came with road course specialists in that race, which made that win just as impressive], did not have quite as many, as they were in stand-alone races. Bronco, you mention about this being the end of Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, and Kyle Busch running the Nationwide Series full-time. Sure, that's true in the case of Edwards, even before the situation at Roush got tenuous, but it's going to be interesting what happens there, because I heard on the broadcast that Roush may put Stenhouse in the no. 21 Wood Brothers car [an inadviseable move, to say the least, because his driving style is not in line with what the Wood Brothers have traditionally liked in their drivers, going back to when Marvin Panch drove the car in the mid-60s], while putting an effort behind a possible title run in the Nationwide Series for Trevor Bayne, if he can find sposorship, I believe. If that's true, I look for Bayne to be running the no. 6 Cup car in selected races, especially the big events, such as the Brickyard 400, Coca-Cola 600, Southern 500, Firecracker 400, the All-Star Race, for which Bayne is eligible to run next year, and what happens with the Daytona 500 is still unknown, not to mention the Budweiser Shootout, for which Bayne is also eligible, since he's a point race winner at Daytona, a criteria for entry into the Shootout. But it would be a crying shame to have a Daytona 500 without the reigning champion in the field, simply because he doesn't have a ride for the race. But we don't know about Keselowski and Busch, especially Busch, considering he's creating a Nationwide Series program for his own team, and Keselowski still wants to run as many Nationwide Series races as he possibly can. And Cooper, it still seems that you are still fighting a losing battle about the second and third versions of the Homestead track [the first was a 1.5 mile copy of Indy in terms of track layout], as last night's race proved without a shadow of a doubt, something you even admitted yourself. The flatter Homestead was a one-groove track, where if someone got on the inside of you, you were FORCED to give way, even if it was on the last lap. Any racetrack that gives drivers multiple options as to wherer they want to run, is a great track, in my book. That's why the reconfigrued Bristol is such a favorite among the drivers. And let's remember that, among the 1.5 mile tracks, Homestead is the ONLY true oval, which separates it from the other 1.5 mile tracks, anyway. 37. I don't think it simply proves that progressive banking is a good thing, but rather that it can be a good thing. In my opinion, some progressively banked tracks provide great racing, and others become way worse because of it. There are tracks without progressive banking that bring the same type of stuff - cars against the wall, against the bottom, etc. It all depends. 39. Although he hit the wall a few times, 11th in your first Sprint Cup race is really good, especially considering that it was a 600 mile race. I'm afraid that Roush might not be able to keep both of them due to sponsor trouble. Hopefully I'm wrong. In fact, in the race he won, he didn't truly have a sponsor. Roush and Ford practically bankrolled Bayne's entire NASCAR season this past year, and Bayne's had major sponsorship issues in the past. In fact, that's how he got with Roush in the first place, because Michael Waltrip was forced to let him go for that exact reason, and he landed in Roush's lap. And you mentioned Stenhouse's run at the Coca-Cola 600. Remember that if Bayne had not run into fuel pressure problems that caused him to stop more frequently and actually run out on one occasion, that Bayne may have finished in the top five and even had a shot at winning. One reason for that is that the Wood Brothers have ALWAYS had a great setup for Charlotte over the years. Remember that they once won something like 11 or 12 consecutive poles with David Pearson and Neil Bonnett, and have won there with Pearson, Bonnett, Kyle Petty, Speedy Thompson, and even Michael Waltrip in the 1996 All-Star Race, so the Woods have always been good at Charlotte. Now if they can just get Bayne off the wall during the race, whatever team ends up with him would do even better. 49. His 17 wins since 2008 (6 of them as an NNS regular) rank 3rd only to Kyle Busch (40) and Carl Edwards (24) over that span. The #22 Penske car finishes 5th in the owners points after finishing 2nd in 2010, but matched wins with 6 (5 Keselowski, 1 Kurt). Ricky Stenhouse Jr. capped off his 2011 Nationwide Series championship campaign with his 3rd runner-up and 5th top 2 finish of the season. Stenhouse led all Nationwide regulars this season with 2 wins, 16 top 5's, 26 top 10's, 541 laps led and an 8.8 average finish. He joins Johnny Benson (1994-95), Kevin Harvick (2000-01) and Greg Biffle (2001-02) as the only drivers to win ROTY and then win the championship the next season. Carl Edwards' 3rd place finish helped the #60 Roush car win the Nationwide owners championship, the first for Roush since 2002 (Edwards won drivers title in 2007 but not owners). Carl finished tied for series lead in wins with a career-high 8, top 5's with a tying-career-high 23, top 10's with 27, poles with 6, career-high laps led with 1887 and career-best 6.5 average finish. Clint Bowyer finished in the top 10 for a 5th straight start, which includes 4 top 5's; In KHI's last season, the flag-ship #33 team finished 4th in the owners points but failed to win a race. Denny Hamlin had 1 win, 4 top 5's and 5 top 10's in 5 Nationwide starts this season (3.4 average finish). Elliott Sadler enjoyed his best season ever in Nationwide (first full season since 1998) but failed to win a race; his best finish in 2011 was 3rd on three occasions. As a precursor to a possible full season in 2012, Sam Hornish Jr. rattled off his first career win (Phoenix), top 5's (2) and top 10's (6) in Nationwide, all in just 13 starts this year. Aric Almirola finishes 4th in points in his first full season in Nationwide, following up his runner-up finish in points in the Trucks in 2010. But JR Motorsports failed to win a race for the first time since 2007. In his first season with JGR, Brian Scott managed just 2 top 5's and 7 top 10's to finish 8th in the standings. But he had 4 top 10's in the last 10 races of the season. Joey Logano put up his worst totals in Nationwide since his first season in 2008 as an 18 year old, winning just 1 race and leading only 106 laps. 50.
