It's Kurt's first Busch win driving for someone other than Roger Penske. Rally America champion, X-Games gold medalist and all-around extreme sports athlete Travis Pastrana finally makes his Nationwide series debut. Should have gone with my gut. Surprisingly strong run for Hornish. Even more surprisingly, they had enough time to interview him after the mandatory Danica/Pastrana interviews. Considering that he didn't get mentioned once during the telecast, good finish for Joe Nemechek. Anyone else get a chuckle out of ESPN showing the points after the last Richmond race at the end? 7. Danica has spent her entire career racing cars that have next to no information that can be interchanged between the two disciplines. While I am a huge supporter of Johanna Long, and I want to see her to very well, the fact that everyone maintains such unrealistic expectations out of Danica just shows how short sighted the NASCAR Fan core is. Danica has a team that has better equipment and personnel than Johanna Long goes. While Jr. Motorsports is not on the same level as Childress, Gibbs,Roush, or Penske, they are a solid organization with good funding. That can't be said with Mary Louise Miller's team besides being a single car team. Mary Louise Miller's team also don't get any help from cup organizations in terms of engines, cars or anything else for that matter. Jr. Motorsports on the other hand gets help Hendrick. That means Danica should doing better than she is. Don't mention Ryan Blaney to me because the 36 Nationwide car actually is a car from RCR. The issue Ryan had to face is the pit crew. Ryan has an experienced Crew Chief in Brad Parrott, but the Pit Crew isn't in the same league as the top pit crews with their pit stops being about a couple seconds off the top pit crews. That meant Ryan Blaney is in a better situation than Johanna. Ryan did very well because the driver is where the equipment is and that can't be about Danica usually. A driver can overcome a pit crew depending on how much time is lost on pit road and the truth is a driver can't overcome a team that is not good in terms quality of Equipment and a not so great pit crew. Johanna has the later that means she can't overcome the team's weak point that great. 24. While he had good equipment at Richmond, the driver is up to stuff. One of the things that impressed me with him is the fact he didn't give up after his pit crew had problems on pit road for the first pit stop of the night with it being under caution. Ryan was 4th at the time of the first pit stop and was not even in the top 10 after the pit stop ended. The 2nd thing that impressed me was how he raced in his Nationwide race debut due to the fact he raced beyond his years. That meant he raced like he did a lot of cup and Nationwide races before the race. My only concerns with Ryan is he could be rushed to cup and what cup team he would be with. He needs 2 full years of Nationwide. My concern with the cup team is due to the fact Ryan races for Tommy Baldwin racing. Tommy Baldwin Racing runs a shoestring operation based on budget. Tommy's teams try to run the full race, but that organization isn't usually isn't a position for winning a race because of budget. 29. 1995 Subaru WRX STi posted: 04.28.2012 - 2:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Travis did better then i thought he would do. Since it was a first-class car, Steve Wallace's running in the top 15 should not have surprised anyone. In fact, it would have been more surprising if he was not competitive, considering the source of the car, though the JTG-Daugherty pit crew is a second-rate pit crew, and since the last half of the race was run entirely under the green flag, and there was a green flag pit stop included, the differece between the pit crews became obvious, and teams like the Roush/JTG-Daugherty alliance, aswell as the Tommy Baldiwn team with Ryan Blaney driving were at a disadvantage. Kurt Busch's team was also at a disadvantage, but his car was so superior until the end (and he was leading before that round of green flag pit stop started), that it didn't really matter. Harvick gained some five or six seconds on the pit exchange, and Busch easily made it up, though he had to battle Denny Hamlin to the wire to earn the win. 32. 10andJoe posted: 04.28.2012 - 3:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Third caution: #81 spin turn 2 33. 1995z71 posted: 04.28.2012 - 3:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Johanna Long- 2010 Snowball Derby winner (a really legit win in a short time of a career) Danica Patrick- 2008 Indy Japan 300 winner (a split race with half the series still in the USA, her only win 7 full seasons) Long>>>Patrick 34. Rusty bought it a number of weeks ago and the car was basically entirely put together by Blake Bainbridge as well as Steve Wallace, himself. It's literally like when the Go Green Racing buys an old car from Roush, and we're not calling the 39 team "first-class equipment". Still a solid car nonetheless, but it didn't have any Roush notes to go off of aside from a decent Roush/Yates engine, so the setup came at the hands of Blake Bainbridge and I believe Ricky Cade in practice. Once it was race time, that's where the JTG crew came into play, as you know. Steve was off to a pretty slow start in this race, but come the halfway point and on, it seemed like they got the car driving a lot better and he drove from a worst running position of about 21st right up to the top 10 before settling into 11th until the finish. I thought it was a pretty decent run considering their actual resources and it being their first race this year. Rusty Wallace Racing lost most of their employees before this season because they weren't going to run full time, so I think they did a pretty good job. 37. palo_s posted: 04.28.2012 - 4:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ii, 31.2 is average first Danica season.. Before this season, Danica made 27 stock car starts over the course of her entire racing career. She's probably raced in hundreds of races, and only 27 of them were in a stock car. It took Sam Hornish Jr. 57 starts in the Cup Series before he got a top five, and by that point he had raced in 78 stock car races, not counting IROC. Everyone wants to trash Danica because she has gotten a lot of media attention, but the fact is, she's doing things in a much more logical way than any of the open wheel cross overs did, and she's been more successful than many had at the point she is at. How are you gonna say "not quite", then say your point is that it's flawed logic to talk strictly about poor finishes? I was talking about HOW THE CARS RAN and what caused the finishes! If your statement about Cole Whitt being "two laps down also, just sayin" was basically trying to say something as stupid as others have in similar situations, then cool... we agree! Finishes don't tell the entire story. The stats tend to balance out with a good number of races, though. People aren't gonna have bad luck every single week, and people aren't gonna have good luck every single week. When I said "quite successful", I'm just saying that I proved a point that really isn't false whatsoever. It's the point I wanted to respond with based on one of your comments. You pretty much can't prove what I said wrong, because it's all ridiculously true lol. 49. She might be a top-20 in points driver, but I sincerely doubt you will ever see here contend for the Cup crown. Of course, the media will still continue to portray her as one of the top drivers... 50. My point is, it's flawed logic. And again, Danica still needs time to perfect racing a Stock Car. Before this season, Danica made 27 stock car starts over the course of her entire racing career. She's probably raced in hundreds of races, and only 27 of them were in a stock car." I thought Danica did a really good job last year and took a huge step compared to how she ran in her first year in stock cars. It had me pretty optimistic about how she'd do this season, especially since she'd be here for every race which'd be a big help to her learning curve. But so far this year, she's regressed. And I'm not just looking at her average finish, she was running top 20 just about every race last year (average running spot in the top 20 in 9 of 12 races in 2011) but she's hardly been there this season (2 of 7). Hard to say if it's a JR Motorsports issue, Cole Whitt's a 20 year old rookie who's only in his 2nd full season in NASCAR period and I think he's done a pretty good job in the #88. We're only 7 races in, but it's worrying. 54. Daniel posted: 05.01.2012 - 12:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) -John Wes Townley in the #24 55. Paul posted: 05.01.2012 - 5:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It should be noted that Blake Koch crashed his #15 car in practice prior to qualifying. Having no backup car prepared, Rick Ware swapped Koch and Riggs' rides in order for Koch to be in the race and receive points. As a result, Koch was put in the #75 car and parked it after 10 laps, and Riggs was moved to the #15 car. Because the #15 car couldn't be repaired in time, Riggs didn't run a qualifying lap; and since the car wasn't locked into the field, it didn't make the race and Riggs is credited with a DNQ, albeit not of his own doing. 57. He really does deserve better than the cards he has currently been dealt. 58. Daniel posted: 05.02.2012 - 2:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) -Josh Richards in the Go Green #39 Agree on Riggs. I think problem of JRM is both drivers are rookies with this type cars.. Both struggled on short tracks (Bristol and Richmond).. 60. palo_s posted: 05.03.2012 - 12:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #43: once again stupid comparison.. Motegi - yes, 18 cars field, but some great drivers - Dixon, Wheldon, Castroneves, Kanaan, Hunter-Reay, Briscoe and etc. I am fan both girls and I think Danica and Johanna have talent.. 61. palo_s posted: 05.03.2012 - 12:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #38: And? TheTruthâ?¢ posted: 05.03.2012 - 8:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It shows HIS mistake, but it doesn't show the CAR'S PERFORMANCE. The 88 was WAY FASTER than the 7. End of discussion. He made a mistake that cost himself a good finish, but HE WAS FASTER just like he has been ALL YEAR LONG. When you said both cars finished 2 laps down and that JRM is struggling, it's not that simple. Only the 7 struggled at Richmond. The 88 did not struggle, but they lost a good finish because of a driver mistake. It's not the team's fault that Danica runs the way she does. You tried to make it like both cars ran poorly, but really only one ran poorly. 63. 1995z71 posted: 07.10.2012 - 2:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Everyone wants to trash Danica because she has gotten a lot of media attention, but the fact is, she's doing things in a much more logical way than any of the open wheel cross overs did, and she's been more successful than many had at the point she is at." Juan Pablo Montoya already had a Cup win at this point in his career. He's the man the behind all of these open-wheel crossovers. Many jumped straight to cup with hardly any stock car experience. Thats why many failed. Danica already has plans to join Cup next season. She still is struggling in NNS, good luck. 64.
