Worst one I can remember was "Sucks that Kyle Busch didn't die in the crash" after a Coke Zero 400. As for the race, decent, and not like the Daytona 500 and cars could actually get by each other in the pack a bit like the plate races from 2008-2010. My prayers go out to the McClure family. 12. Haven't heard many updates aside from him being awake, talking, etc. Hopefully the injuries are minor at most. Secondly, about Danica... it looked to me that the biggest factor in Sam Hornish running her into the wall approaching the S/F line was her getting into his right rear quarterpanel with her left front. That unloads the car and will send the car below you up the track in a hurry. In fact, she did that once to Alex Kennedy at Phoenix, and ended up retaliating too. Usually she's intentionally hitting underfunded teams and backmarkers, so Talladega being a giant equalizer gave her the ability to see what Sam Hornish's car looked like this week. 14. A Cup driver with a long history of crap like that. There's the difference, but of course those who are Cup fans first could care less that Ron was knocked out of the title fight. It's worth noting that Danica and Sam have a history going back to their go kart days. In Danica's view of what happened, any driver would think that they were just intentionally wrecked. Her retaliation was wrong however, but she doesn't have the history that Kyle Busch has YET. None of this might of happened if not for an unnecessary caution for Mike Bliss spinning harmlessly well behind the pack. 35. Oh, thank God! When they were cutting the car open I was afraid of another Dan Wheldon. Fatal crashes are one thing when you've never seen them live, but when you do, they take on a whole new meaning. And after you've got that new meaning, incident's like what happened to McClure you automatically fear the worst. The only other time I had ever been praying like that was in the opening laps of the 2009 Fall 'Dega race when Nemechek *I think* and Menard went into the outside wall Dale Sr. style in Turn 2. Now the worst would be like Will Power style how he thought he was minorly injured after that Las Vegas crash that killed Wheldon, but ended up with more severe injuries then he thought. I'm not to worried now though. That aside, the race was perfect in my opinion. A perfect fusion of the Pack Racing that Nostalgia-sick fans wanted, and epic Tandem racing that people like I like. At one point there was a pack of some 26 cars, and they were all paired up, 4 rows deep of tandems all going three wide. I like Andy Petree's description of it, Hybrid Racing. It's the perfect fusion of Tandems and Packs. Granted, we still had the huge wrecks, but imagine how bad the Lap 30 crash would have been if it was a full fledged pack. Here's hoping we get the same type of racing in tommorow's Cup event, but with all the stupid restrictions that has been slapped on the cup cars, it's not likely. Once again, Praise the LORD that McClure is okay! 46. Baker posted: 05.05.2012 - 11:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First off I'm glad Eric McClure is going to be alright. If you've got a problem with Sam, or anyone else for that matter, a bump on the cool-down lap is quite sufficient. There's no need to wreck someone to make a point. She gets one free pass from me. The Toyota racers also held off a last second charge by Cole Whitt and Ricky Stenhouse for a 1-2 finish. This was Logano's first Busch win at Talladega. Joe Nemechek had a great run and could actually have won this race but got burned on the last restart and damaged in the resulting wild finish costing him a top-10. Kurt Busch was strong early until he triggered a multi-car incident in the tri-oval and damaged his #1 Chevy. He eventually lost two laps late and was written off by the announcers only to get two Lucky Dogs in the last 10 laps on the late cautions and rally for a 6th-place finish by missing the wrecks at the end. Showing you what a wild card this race is John Wes Townley actually ran well in this race. We see severely thrashed cars attempt to finish races all the time when they encounter problems in the final couple of laps, but oh, Danica lost a spot because of it, so clearly he should've parked it on the final lap. 70. palo_s posted: 05.06.2012 - 11:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I dont think he had flat tire. TheTruthâ?¢ posted: 05.07.2012 - 12:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The tire doesn't go flat IMMEDIATELY after contact all the time. Sometimes those leaks dont affect the car until the pressure gets low enough, which sometimes takes a few laps. We see that all the time. The contact with Nemechek CAUSED the tire to go flat. It didn't go flat INSTANTLY. I was watching on HD television, and I was pretty sure Sam Hornish's right front tire was very low on air pressure leading up to the contact with Danica. What didn't help was Danica hitting his right rear quarterpanel with her left front, because that makes him run up the track faster. The tire looked very low, and a lap later it was completely flat. I know you have to defend Danica in every situation (right or wrong), but Hornish didn't get what he deserved. He has NEVER raced Danica dirty in NASCAR. But hey, this is their first run-in, so it must be that he's dirty now. It has nothing to do with a tire that was visibly flat. 79. palo_s posted: 05.07.2012 - 1:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #78: In NASCAR no, but in IndyCar and go-karts yes.. Am I supposed to believe that Hornish is bitter about something that happened 17 years ago? So why didn't they tangle all the time in IndyCar? Supposedly he started feeling it at its worst coming out of turn 4 on lap 122. That's 1.25 laps. Physics doesn't call that impossible. On pit road after the race, his tire was completely flat. When he runs Danica up the track, you can clearly see his wheel is cut hard left trying to avoid it. Why was his wheel cut so hard left if he was trying to block Danica into the wall? Why won't many people acknowledge that he hooked so hard up the track because Danica hit his right rear with her left front? Anyone with a knowledge of racing knows that unloads the car and sends the car on the bottom up the track. Also pay close attention to his splitter going through the tri oval. It clearly was coming down hard on the right front compared to every other car. Go look at the HD version on youtube. I don't think I can link here 87. After just 3 wins in 47 starts between 2010 and 2011, Joey Logano has 2 wins in 7 starts in 2012. It's his first win at Talladega, and he's won 2 of the last 3 plate track races. Also, his 2 wins in 2012 are his first in the #18 JGR car; his first 9 were in the #20. After finishing no better than 8th in the first 6 races of the season, Kyle Busch Motorsports has top 2 finishes in the last 2: Kurt Busch's win at Richmond and Kyle Busch finishing 2nd at Talladega. For Kyle it's his 33rd career runner-up finish in Nationwide, tying him with Jack Ingram for 2nd all time and putting him just 3 back of Kevin Harvick for the most all time. By this logic, it's obvious that Kyle Busch has the most top 2 finishes of all time in NNS with 84 (228 starts). Cup drivers win back-to-back Nationwide races for the first time this season. It's now 5-3 in favor of Nationwide regulars. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the highest finishing NNS regular in 3rd, taking over the point lead with his 4th consecutive top 4 finish and 7th straight top 6 finish. It's his first top 10 in 3 Talladega starts, his other finishes being 29th and 38th. Cole Whitt was the highest finishing rookie in the race. He tied his career best finish of 4th, both coming on plate races this season; he has just 1 top 10 finish in the other 6 races (16.2 avg fin). Dale Earnhardt Jr. made it 2 JR Motorsports cars in the top 5 with his 5th place finish. It's his 2nd top 5 in 4 NNS starts this season, both 5th place finishes. It's just his 4th top in 9 Talladega NNS starts. Kurt Busch picked up his 3rd top 10 in 4 NNS starts this season, and 2nd straight following his Richmond win. Daytona NNS winner James Buescher picked up his first top 10 in 6 starts since the win. But he hasn't finished worse than 14th and has a 10.3 avg fin in 7 starts; if he were running full time and collecting NNS points, he'd be 4th in the standings. Justin Allaier picked up his 4th top 10 in the last 6 races, but has yet to get a top 5 finish so far in 2012. It's his 2nd straight top 10 at Talladega. Kenny Wallace picked up his 2nd top 10 in 6 starts this season. It's his first top 10 in his last 7 Talladega starts and his 5th in 15 starts there overall (17.7 avg fin). Elliott Sadler started from pole due to points, and picked up his 7th top 10 in 8 races in 2012. But he hasn't had a top 5 since he started the season with 4 straight top 3 finishes. 96. myothercarisanM535i posted: 05.07.2012 - 8:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 93 - I know. I thought he was just injured, and that's that. I can understand people's fear of wrecks, especially after so many deaths at Daytona and Talladega, but I was just not one. I was another fan who thought the cars were indestructible and thought that everyone would get out alright, or at least in one piece alive, until Ryan Newman's wreck. That's when realism took off my blinds and told me "These are still 2 tons of metal racing at 200mph, what do you expect?". ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
