She was a roadblock. This race may be one of those races that Elliott Sadler looks back on that saved him a championship, if he indeed wins it this year. That car was repeatedly just junk after the restarts, and he somehow finished seventh. 5. nwt0 posted: 07.14.2012 - 10:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Matt L, I think 10 cars are going to park in the Cup race tomorrow. Amber was a moving road block weaving in and out of lanes, running WAY off the pace. But what the hell was Harvick talking about? I understand he would be frustrated, but where did the "she is trying to be Danica" comment come from? Then he lied through his teeth by saying he didn't even know who she was. Has she done bikini photos or something? What a tool Harvick is. 9. Eric posted: 07.14.2012 - 11:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Amber Cope was like this when she was in trucks also for her one start. I know her equipment is not great, but the 24 car wasn't this off the pace for the Nationwide with difference drivers earlier this season. My theory with her is she would even worse in the 7 car than Danica has and that says something. Danica went a step back this year a nationwide driver. I do think Kevin shouldn't made that comment about Amber though. 10. 10andJoe posted: 07.14.2012 - 11:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) >Has she done bikini photos or something? Errr...yes. Harvick had the tire advantage, but lapped traffic played into his hands and there you have it. In regards to Danica's incident... I really hope Eury Jr isn't gonna tell his driver this is another incident of a driver racing Danica too hard because she's a female. If she doesn't learn from incidents whether they're entirely her fault or partially her fault, she'll never fully develop her potential. Sometimes the best thing for a driver is letting them know when they mess up rather than have the crew blaming everyone else for everything. This is another example of Danica making a mistake, an understandable one, and she needs to realize her responsibility in these wrecks. I'm really hoping she didn't come away from that incident thinking "the 81 doesn't like me, the end" 13. ch posted: 07.14.2012 - 11:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, that was the second time she got into the 81 today. He's faster than he has any business being, but makes minor mistakes that multiply. Today it was cutting a tire after contact. Danica made it to the top 10 for a moment but threw it away with a self imposed spin, just as she did at Michigan. 15. cjs3872 posted: 07.14.2012 - 11:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Matt L and nwt0, if all eight drivers that had to get in on time and the #36 all do S&P's in the Cup race, that would be nine. If that's the case, who would be the 10th? Casey Mears has done some in the past, but the only time he's done that this year was at Pocono about a month ago. And not to defend Amber Cope, but some of the blame for what happened to her has to go to that team. Remember that the #24 car was the same car that was dumped by the leader for being in the way, and it had a different driver in that race (Tim Bainey, Jr.), so while it's agreed that Amber was a moving chicane, especally when it came to the RCR cars (Elliott Sadler nearly dumped her the same way Joey Logano did at Dover), the truth is she's not the first driver to be guilty of that in that car this year, so we may want to look at the car and team in question. And also, Danica's car wasn't handling well all day. Those incidents with the #81 car were not her only run-ins. She had a get-together with her teammate Cole Whitt in the exact same way earlier in the race. And let's not forget that noboby can really make a clean pass low at Loudon unless the person they're passing virtually gives them the spot, because there's virtually no banking in the low groove, so cars are going to get loose and run the outside car up the track, no matter what. We saw that about 15-20 times today, and it probably happened at least 3-5 times for every one we actually saw. Actually, Danica had her best run in a stock car on a tight oval, so she is apparently showing some improvement. she just seems to have this IndyCar mindset that nothing is her fault, because almost all IndyCar drivers think that way. 16. Unless a driver allowed the guy on the inside to make a pass uncontested, virtually every pass made had the guy passing have trouble holding a steady wheel because of a combination of aerdynamics and the extemely low bankin onthe inside of the turns. 19. Paul posted: 07.15.2012 - 3:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) For the 1st time in my 10 years of following this sport, I actually fell asleep and missed the ending of the race, which should tell you how painfully bored I was of this race. A lot of it was the coverage. ESPN, after showing a great Daytona broadcast last week, was back to the same-old half-assed broadcast routine where they focus on about 5 cars for the whole race and rack in the ad money during the 2+ hours of racing. I predicted a Cup driver would dominate and win this race, since no Nationwide regular has won here since 2005 (which is the last year that this was truly a "Busch" Series, instead of just a Cup prep race). I'm glad Brad Keselowski won because out of all the Buschwhackers, he's by far my favorite. I wish he would stick to Cup though because he had his most successful stretch in Cup last summer when he sat out of several Nationwide races due to his foot injury. He's still running well in Cup, but I feel that reducing his schedule would make him a viable contender for the Sprint Cup title (worked out well for JJ). The most entertaining part of this Nationwide event at Loudon for me was the NASCAR.com garage cam the day before. I like it because unlike ESPN, they actually highlight the mid-packers and start-and-parkers who can't afford to buy screen time. You could tell that the New England drivers (Lepage, Frahm, Lewandoski) were really looking forward to this race, even if they were uncompetitive and/or S&P's. Also, it may not come across in his rare ESPN interviews, but Mike Wallace is a very funny guy with a great personality. He's almost a combination of his brothers, minus that annoying laugh that Kenny has. 21. Paul posted: 07.15.2012 - 3:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Now, onto the Amber Cope/Kevin Harvick situation, all I can say is I hope to God that RCR keeps Jeff Burton around for Austin and/or Ty Dillon's eventual opportunity in Sprint Cup. Can you imagine what would happen to them if they were lapped cars and got in his way during a race? That could damage their psyche early on if he's the captain driver at RCR. If he has no problem trashing his veteran teammates Jeff Burton (Martinsville, 2010) and Paul Menard (earlier this year), who are two of the cleanest drivers in Cup, for not moving over for him, what's to stop him from trashing Austin Dillon should he be in Burton/Menard's shoes? Or even Amber Cope's? Harvick said something very interesting in his post-race rant on Cope, saying that Cope didn't belong on the race track. So let me get this straight: A CUP driver and TWO-TIME NATIONWIDE CHAMPION is telling a ROOKIE DRIVER in just her 2ND NATIONWIDE START that she doesn't belong in a NATIONWIDE RACE. Harvick, are you saying that you belong in a Nationwide race? You're a Cup driver, with no wins in 2012, no championships, and aren't a lock for the Chase. Why are you even bothering with Nationwide races? Despite running 8 Nationwide races, you only have 3 top 5s in Cup this year, so obviously running these extra races isn't helping your Cup performance. And why after 11 seasons in Cup are you still running in the lower series'? Is it because you need the track time, or could it be that you need to be in a series where you are dominant? I think DaleSrFanForever mentioned this before about Cup drivers who take up the majority of the schedule in the Nationwide Series. Edwards, Busch, Hamlin, Harvick, Logano, they're all the same: They all have superiority complexes. They can't just compete in Cup because that would mean they'd lose more times than they win. Instead they have to leach off the Nationwide Series in order to stock up their trophy case filled with worthless Nationwide trophies to make up for their lack of Sprint Cup championship gold. Harvick could be looked at as one of the elite drivers in NASCAR if he were to focus 100% on Sprint Cup instead of taking seat time away from young drivers. There's a reason why Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, and Jimmie Johnson are elite drivers, and it all stems down to how focused they are at achieving one goal. I mentioned Jeff Burton earlier. If that had been Jeff Burton who Amber Cope had moved in front of, things would've turned out much differently with (probably) fewer soundbites on tv. Remember when Kyle Busch cut down Burton's tire at the 2010 Coke 600? Burton went straight to Kyle after the race and told him what he felt about the incident. Rather than express his views to the media about his feelings, he went straight to the perpetrator (Busch) and expressed himself directly. Of course, he was trying to tell Kyle Busch what he did wrong, so everything he said went in one big ear and out the other. The fact that there were tv cameras around made it public, but he's done these sorts of things in private too. Prior to one of the TNT races this year, Jimmie Johnson mentioned in one those sit-downs with Bill Elliott and Ned Jarrett that he was racing Burton really hard at Martinsville in 2003. After being blocked by JJ for a number of laps, Burton finally had enough and moved Jimmie out of the way for the position. Jimmie then explained how after the race, Burton entered his hauler and sat down with Jimmie and explained to him what he did wrong and what he should do in that situation next time. Nine years later, Jimmie is a much smarter driver and has 5 championships to prove it (It pains me to say that as the 2007 championship should be Jeff Gordon's, but the record book disagrees). I'm not saying that Burton had a lot to do with Jimmie winning championships, but I think it shows that Burton is willing to "take a driver to school" and help them along the way, especially if they have a lot of talent. I think being around Jeff Burton has really helped Clint Bowyer and Paul Menard's careers, as they're both much better drivers now than before they were teammates (especially Menard). But from what I've heard, Harvick flies solo. This isn't so much Harvick being upset with Amber Cope as it is one driver who can't help not being number one. Someone mentioned in the Cup thread for Loudon that Harvick was devastated about finishing 3rd to Austin Dillon at Kentucky. I can't imagine why he was so upset since Austin was miles ahead of everybody in that race. After the race, Harvick wasn't congratulatory towards Austin for winning his 1st Nationwide race (even fellow championship contender Ricky Stenhouse was happy for Austin). He was just upset that he lost the race. It wasn't because he came so close to winning and lost, it's because he got flat-out dominated by his rookie teammate in that race, and he couldn't take it. I guarantee you that had Kurt Busch won the race, Harvick wouldn't have been nearly as upset because he would've lost to a former Cup champion, something that Harvick will never be and appears to have accepted. Speaking of Kurt Busch, say what you want about him, but that man was all smiles after his 3rd place finish at Sonoma a few weeks ago and congratulated Clint Bowyer, someone who isn't expected to run well at road courses, after he out-raced Kurt at the end. So after Harvick's "devastating" defeat to his rookie teammate, he is on the entry list for Daytona with Menards sponsorship. Call me crazy, but it seems awfully suspicious that he is on the entry list the next week with his teammate Paul Menard's sponsor onboard. True, it may have been the plan all along, but it sure was ironic considering the circumstances. And now this weekend he was back, making it 3 straight double-duty weekends for Harvick. Wasn't this the year that Brendan Gaughan was supposed to rebuild his career by joining RCR part-time? He hasn't been in a Nationwide car in 2 months (Iowa). How the hell is he supposed to rejuvenate his career without any seat time. Or hell, put Paul Menard in that car. He only has 2 wins in the top 2 series and is always a contender in the Nationwide Series. Allowing him to go out and go for a win would be great for his confidence, especially since he could use some momentum as he sits 13th in Cup points as the Chase grows near. Once again, Harvick's superiority complex strikes again. It doesn't get talked about much, but last year was the 1st time since 2002 that Harvick didn't win in the Nationwide Series. I bet it hurts him inside knowing that both Busch brothers, Brad, Carl, Joey, and Denny have all won in the Nationwide Series since Harvick's last victory. Not only has he not won, but 2 of his teammates have this year, Sadler and Dillon. By comparison, Harvick certainly looks like the weak link, and I bet that's eating him up inside. And after not winning again, Harvick takes it upon himself to deliberately bury a young, inexperienced driver, both on tv and through Twitter. What's more sad is how the media is joining up with Harvick in mocking Amber Cope, though none of them will do it to her face because that would take some added "equipment" adjusting (maybe Danny Stockman will say it to her face). He can't win on the racetrack, so he pokes fun at another driver's expense to make himself seem better. And he knows he can get away with it. Harvick is just a little boy trying to play the tough guy. If you don't believe me, just go back and watch the post-race from Richmond 2003 when he tried getting in Ricky Rudd's face. He got out of his car so tough and wanted to jump him like he did to Greg Biffle at Bristol the year before, but one look at Rudd's fearless eyes made him stop dead in his tracks. Knowing that he couldn't kick Rudd's ass, he and his crew (notice he always brings backup when he confronts somebody, except at Watkins Glen 2007 when they couldn't get to him quick enough to save him from Montoya) proceeded to jump on Rudd's car, knowing the car couldn't strike back. The late Bobby Hamilton said it best when he said Harvick "thinks he is Dale Earnhardt and wouldn't make a scab on Earnhardt's butt." That is so true on so many levels. From winning championships, to winning races, to manning up to other drivers, to owning a race team, Earnhardt has Harvick beat in every positive way. Earnhardt actually used his race team to develop several young drivers' careers rather than be a place for he and his Cup buddies to further boost their egos and trophy cases. Earnahrdt gave Steve Park and Jeff Green their 1st breaks in NASCAR, and his son Dale Jr. won 2 Nationwide championships. And for anyone who wants to bring up KHI's 2 Truck championships with Hornaday and 4 straight Daytona wins with Stewart, Earnhardt put the untalented Waltrip in a car and won in his 1st start. Game, set, and match. (Actually, come to think of it, maybe it's best he isn't known as the man who helped start Waltrip Marketing Machine). Oh, and to top off tonight, Harvick's former development driver Timothy Peters just won his 4th Truck race tonight, beating out Harvick's 2-time Truck champion driver Ron Hornaday in the process. How appropriate for Harvick's former driver to lose to a driver who was buried while at RCR and KHI the same day as all of this crap. 22. irony posted: 07.15.2012 - 4:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Maybe Harv is thinking in the back of his mind that he will soon be an afterthought at RCR with the grand kids being in Cup? For one, the cars are just pathetically slow, and two, they should know better than to put a driver as inexperienced as Amber out on the track in a NW race. It's pretty obvious the only reason she got this ride is because of her looks and her father, because she clearly doesn't know what the hell she's doing. Okay, and I watched the whole race, and while I often see what you're talking about and agree that it exists, I also often see people come out of those situations without making contact at all and use the low flat groove safely when ran into it. You'll see it a LOT in the Cup race being that these drivers are really good. Most side by side battles end up with the low car using the apron for at least some of the corner to stay off of the car that is high. We did see a lot of contact in the NW race, but we did see a lot of drivers avoid contact. In the Nationwide race, there were some issues in that situation, but most of the better drivers in the field were fine in those situations cause it's practically the norm and they can handle it. Danica's situation, however, she went to the apron halfway through the corner and really didn't have position on the 81 in the first place, so it would've been ridiculous for the 81 to drive up the track because Danica forced her way onto the apron late in the corner to get a run on him but couldn't hold it. You originally replied to my thoughts on the Danica incident, and I really don't think it's even a question. That wasn't a situation where the high car ran the low car to the apron. That was a situation of Danica being impatient and not having the nose entry to the corner, and Bowles held his line the entire time. 28. I don't think he was anti-rookies, but more or less anti-plastic FHM girls who have no real racing ability and will never make it in professional auto racing but get handed a NASCAR license and go out there with zero awareness. There should be standards in the top series. Amber Cope would never get a ride based solely on driver ability, and I'm sure that was his point. Average finish of 9.0 22.Clint Bowyer. 1 start, 0 wins, 0 top 5s, 0 top 10s. Average finish of 26.0 Obviously Logano has had the most success of any Cup driver in Nationwide this year. With Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski behind him, but beyond that the Cup guys haven't had a ton of success suprisingly. Also, these are the drivers competing for Cup points with no Nationwide starts yet this season. Matt Kenseth Greg Biffle Jimmie Johnson Martin Truex, Jr. Carl Edwards Ryan Newman Jeff Gordon Marcos Ambrose Jeff Burton Juan Pablo Montoya Aric Almirola Bobby Labonte AJ Allmendinger Regan Smith Casey Mears David Gilliland Travis Kvapil Landon Cassill David Reutimann (has run in truck though) Dave Blaney Brian Vickers David Stremme Ken Schrader Michael Waltrip Terry Labonte Boris Said Bill Elliott Hermie Sadler Robby Gordon Tomy Drissi Stacy Compton David Mayhew Kelly Bires Chris Cook Timmy Hill originally started the year running for Cup points, but switched to Nationwide after only managing to qualify for one Cup race early on, so he really doesn't make it in on either list. 53. Rusty posted: 07.16.2012 - 4:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, since I pointed out that Reutimann has run in Truck, I should've pointed out that Travis Kvapil has as well. Those two can almost be taken off the list for racing in lower series, but I was keeping it to Nationwide. Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Brendan Gaughan and Scott Riggs are also Cup point guys who have run Truck races. 54. That being said, it just means one's only mediocre while the other's awful. Harvick may act like an ass sometimes but the Cope twins are both pretty awful and they really shouldn't be in NNS. ARCA, maybe. Anyways, Brad Keselowski picks up his 19th career Nationwide win, 2nd of 2012 and 1st at Loudon. Keselowski raised some eyebrows with some pretty damning comments on Allmendinger and any drivers that take over-the-counter supplements and vitamins, but 2 of the last 3 weeks he's been involved in minor controversies but has translated them into some good runs: Kentucky Cup win, this Nationwide win and then a top 5 in the Loudon Cup race. Kevin Harvick has now gone 27 straight Nationwide starts without a win, dating back to late 2010. But he does finish a season-best 2nd, his 5th top 5 in 8 starts this year. Austin Dillon was both the highest finishing rookie and series regular in 3rd, and won the $100k Dash 4 Cash award. Dillon leads the series in both top 5's (10), top 10's (13), and has the best average finish among series regulars (7.1). But it's just his 2nd top 3 finish of the year. Sam Hornish Jr. made his 50th career NNS start, picking up his 16th career top 10. But all 16 have come in his last 30 starts dating back to 2011. It's his 5th straight top 10 finish and he ties his season-best finish in 4th, his 4th top 5 of the year. After going 5 straight races without a top 5 finish, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has them in back-to-back races. It's also his 4th straight finish of 11th or better, including 3 straight top 10's. Kasey Kahne picked up his 6th top 10 in 9 starts this season, but hasn't had a top 5 in his last 4 starts. Elliott Sadler gets his 6th top 10 in the last 8 races, but has now gone 6 straight without a top 5. Justin Allgaier picked up his season-best 4th straight top 10 finish and 7th in the last 8 races. Jamie McMurray finishes 9th in his first Nationwide start of 2012. It's his first start in the #30 for the team that used to be Braun Racing since Feb. 2004 at Rockingham, a race that McMurray won for Braun Racing's first of 4 career Nationwide wins. Since Turner Motorsports bought the team, they've had 5 wins in 2 seasons. Ryan Truex now has 7 top 10's and an 8.7 avg fin in 10 starts for Joe Gibbs Racing since last season. In 51 starts since last season, Brian Scott has just 12 top 10's. 55. Danica is one, she has been known to throw cussing fits over the radio herself but ESPN has their heads too far up her vag to care. Denny Hamlin is another guy who constantly throws his team under the bus and has a bad attitude but most people give him a pass, he even had his entire pit crew fired once. The Busch boys aren't the only ones with attitudes out there, but they seem to be more popular to hate on. Maybe because they are more vocal to the media. 65.
