Danica's now 11th in points. She needs some good runs to avoid getting passed by Mike Wallace in Johnny Davis equiptment. It's nice seeing Annett running well after I was ready to write him off after his #62 RWI season. It would be fun to see Ty Dillon, Ryan Blaney, Darrell Wallace, Ryan Truex racing full time in the series next season. They're all young drivers that are fast and fun to watch. Eric McClure has the Hefty team back where they were before Jeff Green. That's all I'll say. Tanner Berryhill needs some ARCA time before trying another Nationwide race. ARCA could really use the extra car and Berryhill could use the experience. 6. irony posted: 09.07.2012 - 11:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Darrell Wallace got raced dirty in my view. Cole Whitt wasn't very good tonight, but you'll notice that in any given week, he seems to be the top JRM car. I don't think he's a great driver though. Sadler wrecked while racing with #2 points man Ricky Stenhouse and was running as low as 28th if I remember correctly. He made his way back to 23rd, got the lucky dog on the final caution, and drove to a 12th-place finish in the final 17 laps to keep his points lead. He was really mixing it up with a few of those drivers in the final laps. Great drive from him. 23. He is running 3 NNS teams. 2 with full time drivers. and 1 with Kenseth, Hamlin, TBD development driver. Brian Scott said his chances are 50% of leaving the team (I think he will). She deserves it. I'll admit it, I first jumped on her bandwagon cause she was, without really trying to be, the anti-Danica. I felt like I needed to pull for another female racer just to show I'm not a sexist with my bad attitude towards Danica. To show I didn't like her because she is more interested in everything other than racing itself which I have never liked (see Waltrip, Michael). But she has won me over with her being her. She is a racer from a family of small time racers. Even smaller than the Keselowski's (remember, Bob K, Brad K's Dad, ran in the Trucks for a while and even won a race and ran ARCA forever winning a championship, Johanna's Dad never rose above the late model circuit). These are the people I want to see succeed. Watching her start 8th, and DRIVE into the Top 5 by passing Denny Hamlin was one of those "oh yeah, THIS is why I still care about NASCAR" moments that seem to be becoming rarer and rarer. But as I mentioned on the Cup page, at the same rate of speed the air left Johanna's right front tire, as did my interest in this race. The rest of the night was the Cup show. But then when Danica hit the wall, I was excited; not because it was Danica that hit the wall, but that it meant Joe Nemechek would pass her and get into the top 10 in points despite running mediocre equipment and missing a race. Then Brian Scott did what he does best, and Joe actually passed him and is now 9th in the points. With Danica now 14 points out of the top 10 and only 15 points ahead of Mike Wallace (who is also overachieving in mediocre equipment), NASCAR's latest cash cow is in danger of not being honored at the Nationwide Series banquet at the end of the year. He was a rookie driver with a rookie team, yet people point to his Busch racing as some sort of proof that he "sucked" in Busch at the time. He wasn't setting the world on fire, but I think his performance is very much due to his car... and he did end up winning a race before moving to Cup, anyway. Obviously Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick saw something because surely they knew how good or not so good the 92 team was at the time. When Tony Stewart made his first few Busch starts, they were also with an uncompetitive team. Once he went to Labonte/Gibbs, he was inconsistent, but showed signs of brilliance. He won 2 poles and got 6 top 5s and 7 top 10s in that 27 start span while racing IndyCar full time before being thrown into Cup. 49. I used to think she might be able to win 3-5 NASCAR races in her career, but now I think she'll be lucky to win 1. Tony and Jimmie won multiple races in different disciplines and while they weren't dominant in the Nationwide Series, their stats are still well ahead of Danica's. Danica can't compete with second-tier NASCAR drivers in a series where only half the cars score championship points each week. She's gonna get her ass handed to her next year. 50. Anyone in NASCAR can drive a race car, but being able to race is something totally different, and Danica does not know how to race, or may not be capable of racing with the leaders, but she can drive a race car, just like anyone else. Learning how to race is a discipline learned through experience, but it also takes skill, which Danica apparently does not have, and never has in NASCAR. The same is true regarding athletes in all sports. Just because someone can play baseball, football, basketball, golf, etc. at the highest level doesn't mean he knows how to play it, because of the little nuances involved, and that takes time to learn, if the person ever learns it at all. And even though Stenhouse can drive a car better than any of the full-time NNS drivers, that does not mean he knows how to race, and his duel with Kevin Harvick early in last night's race showed that. That kind of insight is what Stenhouse is going to lose next year with Matt Kenseth leavin, and what Kyle Busch may gain next year with Kenseth joining Gibbs, because Kenseth knows how to race. That, plus the fact that none of the other Roush drivers have it in them to act as mentors, and I predict that Stenhouse will be in for a long season. The best thing Jack Roush can do for him is to keep Jimmy Fennig as his crew chief next year. It's for that reason why I think that Stenhouse needs more experience in Cup before jumping into the Cup series next year (he only has two Cup starts). That's why I think it's a good idea to have Stenhouse drive the #21 car near the end of the season and put Trevor back in the car next year, or even to have Bayne and Stenhouse split time in the Cup next year, with Bayne driving the car in companion races on weekends on which he's not either driving the #6 NNS car (if sponsorship allows), or on companion weekends where the Wood Brothers aren't competing. That would allow both to get lots of seat time for 2014, and for Sten house to get his feet wet, while not having to deal with the pressure of a full-time Cup ride with just two Cup starts uner his belt. I think next year has a 50-50 chance of being an absolute disaster for Ricky Stenhouse, Jr, because with Kenseth leaving, he really has no steadying force at Roush, unless Roush keep Jimmy Fennig as his crew chief. 57. palo_s posted: 09.08.2012 - 5:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #54: Look I am Smoke fan.. Don't know if I want to believe him though as there have been no other reports of this. He could be replacing Brian Scott. 62. ch posted: 09.08.2012 - 6:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sorry, it was Kyle Petty not Kenny Wallace. 63. I also notice the Jr fans defend her too.Could that be because she drives for Jr too? Can you give us some insight on who will be Danica's crew chief next year?? She is going to need someone who is very, very thick skinned or he will be skinned alive for her failures. Just wondering. 64. ch posted: 09.08.2012 - 7:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Not only will the Crew Chief be skinned, but even Smoke himself might get a little pressure for "not giving her the best the team has to offer." Piquet could be moved into the #30 full-time, but I'm not quite so certain on that one. But the #38 will need to be kept open for Kasey's Buschwacking, and for whatever ride buyer replaces Sweet. Unless they go back to four cars, I'm not seeing any room at the inn for Allgaier. 66. Sweet's results have been at best disappointing, so I doubt he'll be kept on much longer. And hopefully, we've seen the last of Leffler in competitive equiptment. The guy still has fewer NASCAR wins than Tony Raines in a career of similar length. 68. 10andJoe posted: 09.09.2012 - 9:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) >So on RaceDay, Kenny Wallace said that Darrell Wallace Jr. made the announcement he would drive for JGR full time in the NNS next year. Last car on the lead lap after 2 Luckey Dogs with one on the last lap.Running cup too. Will she wreck in 1 or both races?? Will she affect a chase contender in some way?? Stay tuned. 72. It's his first win since this race two years ago, and it's his record 6th Nationwide win at Richmond. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. post his 3rd straight top 2 finish, his 9th of 2012 and his 8th career runner-up finish (tied with championship rival Elliott Sadler and Darrell Waltrip for 39th all time). Stenhouse had 5 top 2 finishes in his first 75 starts, but has 9 in his last 23. Kurt Busch gets his 5th top 3 finish in 14 starts this season (11 top 10's 9.4 avg fin); Kurt posted top 3 finishes in both Richmond races this year, including a win back in April. Denny Hamlin has 6 top 5 finishes this season; three of them are runner-up finishes, the other three are 4th place finishes. Hamlin's in danger of failing to win a Nationwide in a season for just the 2nd time in the last 7 years. Michael Annett picks up his 5th top 5 of the season and of his career; it's his first in 5 races, but all 5 have come in the last 11 races (10 finishes of 11th or better, 8 top 10's, 8.6 average finish). Annett was already 103 points out of the point lead after 14 races, but he's lost just 34 points to the leader over the last 11. Austin Dillon qualified on the front row for the 5th time this season, and is now tied with just Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for the series lead in top 10's with 19. Since posting his worst finish of 2012 at Watkins Glen (23rd), Austin has 4 straight top 10's and a 6.25 avg fin. Ty Dillon has now finished in the top 8 in each of his first 3 career Nationwide starts (5.7 avg start, 6.0 avg fin). In fact, Ty's finished outside of the top 10 just three times in 20 career starts between Nationwide and Trucks. It's the 3rd top 10 for Jeremy Clements Racing in 59 career Nationwide starts, two of them with Ty. Joe Nemechek picks up his 1st top 10 of 2012 and the 125th of his career (383 starts). Despite not running a race, Nemechek's in a good position to finish top 10 in points in Nationwide for the first time since he was 5th in 1993 (won championship in 1992). Nemechek has 4 top 10's in Nationwide since 2006, with two of them coming at Richmond and 3 at short tracks Ryan Blaney made up the most positions of anyone from the start of the race to the finish, starting 27th and finishing 9th for his 4th top 10 in 7 career Nationwide starts and 5th in 9 starts between Nationwide and Trucks (15.03 avg fin). Darrell Wallace Jr. joins Ty Dillon as drivers to finish in the top 10 in each of their first 3 career Nationwide starts this season (10.0 avg start, 8.7 avg fin). James Buescher's 11th place finish is his best in his last 5 starts. Travis Pastrana qualified in both the top 10 and top 5 for the first time in 9 career starts, and posted his 4th top 20 finish (21.4 avg fin). 73. Their marketing of her hinges on 4 things. She is a pioneer for women in motorsports (false), she is the only female in motorsports doing well (couldn't be falser), she is one of the most attractive women in sports (false), and she has a fascinating personality (definitely false). If they start talking about Johanna doing well, this will throw a wrench in that. 76. ch posted: 07.14.2013 - 11:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Owner Changes: 4 - Johnny Davis 51 - Jeremy Clements Should be the same here as at Indy 77. The day before my Dad picked me up from school and took me to our local Walmart where Dale Jr was making an appearance (I had no idea this was while he was suffering from the symptoms of his Kansas concussion). After checking out some cars, Junior, Gordon, and Eric McClure's to be exact, a guy asked the few hundred of us there who would win the Cup race, everyone said Dale Jr (He did win the pole and lead 67 laps), except for one fan who said Denny Hamlin, and he got made fun of. Then as we got in my dad's truck, he picked up two tickets to this race one of his co-workers had given to him. The joy I have felt has rarely been matched, since I had dreamed of going to a race.
