Kentucky fans got the Cup race they wanted, but they have abandonded all the other races. Here's the attendance history for the Nationwide races here: 2009 - 70,000 2010 - 61,000 2011 - 52,000 2012a - 30,000 2012b - 23,000 I think Kentucky has a neat bumpy surface that gives it character. But I don't think there is demand for 2 Nationwide races. Johanna Long fairly outruns Danica. I almost feel bad for her lately that she is struggling to keep up with ML Motorsports & Joe Nemechek. Maybe the developments over the past month were her wake-up call that marketing can only take you so far. Scott Lagasse Jr. made a return to the series. He had some problems, but any funded ride is a welcome sight. The point battle between Sadler/Stenhouse/Dillon will be fun to watch through November. 3. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 09.22.2012 - 7:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well he didn't dominate like he did earlier this year at Kentucky, but Austin manages to get another win at this track. 7th Nationwide win of the year for RCR. Great finish for Johanna Long, came in 12th. 4. Anonymous posted: 09.22.2012 - 7:37 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Today proves my point why I really question people claiming Danica is the best female Driver in racing today. Danica was behind Johanna Long all race despite the fact Danica has a team that is well founded unlike Johanna Long. Danica for most the race was 16th to 18th place car While Johanna had a top 15 car despite racing for an underfunded team. Danica Patrick been outperformed by under founded teams for a while including ML Motorsports. I know Jr. Motorsports isn't doing great this year, but Danica is being out performed by Cole Whitt. Danica is underachieving by having a well founded organization with her post the results she has besides having a team that is doing better than. Johanna on the other hand is overachieving with an underfunded team that doesn't have a good pit crew. It looks like Johanna is the better of the two female drivers in the Nationwide series. My point is it isn't a female thing with Danica or an Experience thing either. Danica now has raced 52 races in the Nationwide series and that means the experience reason is starting not to hold water. It looks more like her skill level is the issue. 5. Eric posted: 09.22.2012 - 7:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree the Kentucky doesn't need two track dates. The problem with the attendance is the Kentucky has a cup date. That means in return fans don't have to see Kentucky Speedway for a weekend that doesn't include a cup race on the track. Kentucky is having the same issue as Chicagoland. Those two tracks gave the Nationwide series 2 race dates despite the cup cars only go there once a year. That means the fans for those two tracks want spend their money on the weekend that the cup cars are there. That means those two tracks need one Nationwide race date to be taken away for both of the tracks. 6. But don't forget that Danica was caught 2 laps down because her crew chief brought her in too early on one pit cycle. Not to mention that this is her first race with Pemberton and they had not even spoken before both arrived at the track. 7. Anonymous posted: 09.22.2012 - 7:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jordan, before Danica got 2 laps down, she was running 18th place. That was behind Johanna Long. 8. 10andJoe posted: 09.22.2012 - 7:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #39 sponsor: Joy Mining Machinery #42 sponsor: The Motorsports Group #52 sponsor: BBB.com 9. On this forum, I don't think there's a single person who claims Danica is a good driver. We all see that she's several notches below Johanna Long. And despite all the hype she gets from ESPN and FOX, I doubt any of the racing people from those networks truly believe in Danica. They're only hyping her because their producers are telling them to. If you put Johanna in the the #7, she'd probably be a fixture in the top 10 every week. Meanwhile, put Danica in the #70, and she'd only be outrunning the start-and-parks. Other than Danica, no female driver has ever been given a ride in top notch equipment (in any series), so who knows how many female stars we've missed out on simply beacuse they've never been given a chance. 10. Either way, I'm proud of her and her team. 12. Peter posted: 09.22.2012 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The day us Johanna Long fans have been waiting for; she ran in the top-20 all day, in fact she only dropped below the top-15 for brief moments; ran in front of Danica all day; ran as high as 8th and made all lot of quality passes. If her last pit-stop was a little faster she would have finished in the top-10, but can't hold it against her or the team these things just happen some times. That's two great runs for her in the last three races. I will be surprised if she doesn't at lest get a try-out for a top team 13. Jim Davis posted: 09.22.2012 - 9:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) During the race there was some commentary to the effect that both Long and Dillon were testing in Nashville earlier. Something was said to the effect that someone was faster in the other's car. I didn't catch whether Dillon was faster than Long in the 70 or Long was faster than Dillon in the 3. Did anyone catch the gist of this commentary? 14. Peter posted: 09.22.2012 - 9:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^ I think Austin was faster in Johanna's car, but for a guy like Austin in the middle of a title hunt to share information with a driver trying to make a name for herself, just shows what a class act he is 15. A good driver just pulls up to the rear bumper of the car ahead and the debris falls off.Should have been no problem with her driving skills. Also, she doesn't care to talk to her crew chief because she only shows up to "drive the car". Expect more in the weeks to come. 17. 10andJoe posted: 09.22.2012 - 10:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Let's not forget that both Drew Herring and Ryan Blaney had great runs too. 18. irony posted: 09.22.2012 - 11:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I really thought Danica would be good at the cookie cutters this year. Had she of been, we'd hear the excuse that they're not driver tracks. In reality, she's been garbage on these tracks. And these tracks themselves are garbage. Glad to hear that NASCAR is considering short tracks for the Truck Series at least. 19. I do !!Remember, her fans always say she improves on return trip tracks. She wrecked last time at Dover so expect it again or a very poor finish again. Her husband's team won quite a number of races from '49-'55. I seem to recall Janet Guthrie running a race for Rod Osterlund around the time that they won their championship. And Tammy Jo Kirk was driving for a team that had won three Truck races the year before. 29. He's the first rookie to ever sweep a track in a season, and he's the 6th Nationwide rookie to win multiple races in a season. Austin's now on pace for 17 top 5's, 26 top 10's and a 7.4 average finish this season. All would be new Nationwide rookie records. Of Austin's 6 career wins between Nationwide and Trucks, 5 have been from pole. It's Austin's 6th straight top 10 and 5th straight finish of 6th or better. Sam Hornish Jr. picks up his 3rd career runner-up finish, all coming in the last 9 races. His 5 podium finishes this season have also come within the last 9 races. It's his 25th top 10 in 60 career Nationwide starts. Brendan Gaughan picks up just his 8th top 5 in 79 career Nationwide starts and 2nd in 8 starts this season (4 top 10's, 13.4 avg fin). It's his best finish in Nationwide since he finished 3rd at Road America in 2010 driving for Rusty Wallace Racing. In his 9th career Nationwide start, 5th with JGR and first in 2012, Drew Herring picks up his first career top 5 finish. Herring now has 3 top 10's and an 8.4 average finish in his 5 starts with JGR. Elliott Sadler picks up his 12th top 5 of the season, equaling his total from all of 2011. It's his 4th top 5 in the last 7 races, but he has no top 3 finishes over that stretch. Cole Whitt has 5 straight finishes of 14th or better, with 3 top 10's and a 9.6 average finish over that stretch (5th in points scored). Michael Annett sets a new career high with his 5th straight top 10 finish (had 4 in a row last season). Annett has 13 top 10's this season, after combining for 13 in his first 105 Nationwide starts. Justin Allgaier's 17th top 10 this season equals his total from all of 2011, but it's just his 2nd top 10 in the last 5 races. Ryan Blaney picks up his 5th top 10 in 8 Nationwide starts this season, and 7th in 12 starts between Trucks and NNS (13.0 average finish). Blaney has more top 10's than 33 drivers who have more starts tham him this season. Brad Sweet picks up his 2nd top 10 in 14 Nationwide starts this season (18.2 avg fin). Johanna Long ties her best career Nationwide finish in 12th, her 8th top 20 finish in 18 starts this season. James Buescher has now gone 6 straight starts without a top 10 finish, after 7 in his first 12 starts of 2012. Of Jeremy Clements' 11 top 15 finishes in 97 career Nationwide starts, 5 have come this season. 31. Daniel posted: 09.25.2012 - 11:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) -Dusty Davis in the #24 32. This one was a "wind race," with a sustained breeze of 20+ mph throughout the day as well as frequent gusts at twice that speed. The conditions made the day difficult for the ESPN camera crew, and anything not securely fastened down properly in the infield was liable to seek freedom by taking flight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
