Seriously, Logano will win at least 2 of the remaining races with Stenhouse nabbing the other one and Brad K, Sadler, Dillon or Busch winning the fourth and final race. I hope Joey enjoyed winning the races Kyle usually dominates in 2012, for the growing pains are coming next year. The only intrigue left to settle is the championship. If Sadler gets through Kansas and Texas with top 5s he will likely be in good shape. 12. Paul posted: 10.13.2012 - 1:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) JAMIE88FAN, Applebee's may have been on the #74 car, but it wasn't actually sponsoring it in the race. Mike Harmon often keeps past sponsor decals on the car, even if it isn't sponsoring his car. That's why it looks like KOMA Unwind was a sponsor for most of his start-and-parks. Angela Cope left her mark in this race. Literally. She dropped fluid all over the race track after running into the back of Joe Nemechek BEFORE crossing the start/finish line to take the green flag, and they ran 9 caution laps as a result. Great recovery for Nemechek though, finishing 17th. Justin Allgaier proves once again why he hasn't been offered a Cup ride, while winless drivers like Cole Whitt and Timmy Hill have. I know that Hornish ran into him because his spotter incorrectly told him he was clear, but a smarter driver wouldn't have held onto Hornish's right rear quarter panel coming out of turn 4, also known as "calamity corner" because of it's sharp angle that pushes cars towards the wall. Mike Bliss had a busted shock absorber and had to pit while running 10th, but a couple laps after he returned to the track, something fell off the car and punctured a tire (can't remember which one), causing him to smack the outside wall and then hitting the inside wall where there's no SAFER barrier. Reed Sorenson ran a great race, finishing one lap down in 12th place in a part-time car. He ran lead lap the whole race before getting lapped with just a couple laps to go. Great run for Ryan Blaney too. Robert Richardson posted his best non-restrictor plate finish of the season. Danica Patrick ran a really good race, staying on the lead lap until literally coming to the checkered flag in the quad oval. Cole Whitt had a really slow car at the beginning and was one lap down in 21st before the first pit cycle, but they made some adjustments and he came back to finish 13th without losing another lap. Brad Keselowski had a shot at the win, but didn't get the car full of fuel on the last pit stop, so he had to slow down to conserve fuel, but ultimately ran out and finished 18th. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. hit the wall and bent his spoiler back, but left pit road before his crew could fix it and cost himself a top five finish. Then he didn't want to talk to crew chief Mike Kelley afterwards. He's still got a lot to learn about facing adversity and being mature at the same time. John West Townley was on the lead lap in 15th place late in the race, but hit the wall and lost 14 laps as a result. For all you JWT apologists, that's why he's known as John Wrecks Weekly. Stanton Barrett finished 29th in just his second race in two years, his best finish since Road America in 2010. 14. Joey Logano's nickname should be "The Greatest Thing Since Triple-A". Also, too many pink cars in this race. I know it was for Breast Cancer Awareness, but there comes a point when it goes from honorable to obnoxious. 15. Harvick on radio after that "Her water broke? Is she having a baby" I don't like Harvick that much but I thought that was hilarious. Seriously though, both Cope twins need to GTFO. I'll take a start and park over a moving chicane that could wreck one of the front runners. 16. cjs3872 posted: 10.13.2012 - 3:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) For those that don't like the Cup entries in the Nationwide and Truck Series races, I'd rather see a lot of Cup entries than see guys qualify for the race just to park their cars and make money that way, because I know the Cup entries will actually run the race. If it means 10-15 Cup drivers during a companion weekend, so be it. I would rather see 40-43 cars racing then see 10 cars qualify for the race and then park within a few laps. And if that means that fewer Nationwide regulars win races, than so be it, because having 25-30% of the field just park a few laps into the race cheapens the accomplishment anyway. And by the way, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. does it again. He has a top three car and hits the wall needlessly, damaging the rear spoiler, which cost him time on one of the pit stops, then tells his crew chief not to give him the lap times, and says he doesn't care what his lap times are, even if he's being told he's as fast or faster than the leader. He turned a night where he should have gained a few points on Sadler into a night where he lost points on Sadler, and lost time on the clock, as well. Now 13 points is easily doable with four races to go, and we all know what lengths he'll go to in order to win a championship, but his attitude, while not as bad as the Busch brothers, may be starting to get on other people's nerves at Roush. Any wonder why I say he might be a disaster next year in the Cup series with nobody else to rely on to mentor him? With the way he sometimes talks to his crew chief Mike Kelley, might he already be looking forward to next year and Trevor Bayne, because he's not likely to make the mistakes that Stenhouse continues to make. It's my opinion, based on what I've seen, that Bayne might be 20 or 30 points ahead (if not more), even with fewer wins, rather than 13 points behind with the same cars, because he just doesn't seem to make the mistakes that Stenhouse makes. Brad Daugherty even said on NASCAR Now his past week that Stenhouse is the fastest of the three drivers vying for the championship, but he also noted that he's the most mistake-prone, and that Sadler might capitalize on that. Now Daugherty is no expert when it comes to NASCAR, but even he could see that Stenhouse is prone to mistakes. And right on cue, Stenhouse is the fastest of the title contenders at Charlotte, but made the mistake that cost him at least the four ponts he lost to Sadler, not to mention points he might have gained. Sadler's the favorite for the championship, because he's not neary as likely to make the key mistake that Stenhouse is likely to make, and I think that Austin Dillon is now out of it, at 29 points back. I don't tihnk Dillon can make up 29 points in four races, unless Stenhouse and Sadler both have trouble, and I don't see Sadler making a mistake, so Dillon's only hope is for Sadler to have a mechanical problem. It wouldn't surprise me to see Dillon catch Stenhouse for second place, because Dillon's not going to make the mistake, either, based on the way the season's gone so far. 17. Everyone else was an obstacle. Jeff Green scores another top 20, 2 laps off the pace. McClure (who was faster in qualifying) ends up 22nd, 5 laps off the pace. Disappointing runs for Jeffrey Earnhardt and Stanton Barrett. Hopefully the Cope twins realize racing is just not for them. The problems with this series are the lack of money and talent. A lot of talent got pushed up the ladder too quick to the Cup series. They either come back and double dip like Logano or turn into J.J. Yeley and Reed Sorenson. If these guys spent some more time in Nationwide before jumping up, there could have been a lot more to talk about from 2006 to the presant day. The heart of the regulars this season has been Sadler, Stenhouse, Dillon, Hornish, Allgaier & Annett. What we have left are the likes of John Wes Townley, Brian Scott, Eric McClure and Danica Patrick. Bulky, rolling, usually wrecked (in McClure's case - just slow) piggy banks. They do a service to the series keeping cars on the track, but have been awful in the competition department. The other side of the series is the underfunded side with talent. Mike Bliss has had on/off sponsorship all year while Jeff Green was parking for most of the year. Jeremy Clements is still managing to make the most of his equiptment. Joe Nemechek has been ahead of Danica for weeks in his own ride funded by his Cup car. Kenny Wallace got pulled out early in the year with lack of sponsorship. Erik Darnell showed talent in the Roush cars & needs more than a fleet of S&P tanks funding the #40. Josh Wise and Stephen Leicht have spent 2012 in a S&P Rookie of the Year battle in Sprint Cup. 4 time Nationwide series winner Scott Riggs has spent 2012 parking a Cup car and Nationwide car. There's only so much NASCAR and the team owners can do. NASCAR and the team owners made the sport so dependent on money, the quality of competition rests in the hands of sponsors. The short term solutions have been to fill the field with Cup drivers or valet parking. What else is there to say... 22. Talon64 posted: 10.15.2012 - 5:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Joey Logano picks up his 17th career Nationwide Series victory. Logano had 9 wins in his first 91 Nationwide starts but has 8 in his last 15. To put that in perspective, Kyle Busch's best 15-start stretch in his NNS career saw him net 9 wins. Logano now has a .444 win % this season. When Kyle Busch set the NNS record for wins in a season with 13 in 2010, his win % was .448 (29 starts). Kevin Harvick, who's the all time leader in NNS in top 5's, becomes the 1st driver to reach 150 career top 5's (.519 top 5 % is 3rd all time). It's his 8th top 5 and 2nd runner-up finish 12 starts this season (38th career runner-up finish, most all time). Elliott Sadler earned his 15th career NNS pole, and 4th of 2012 which ties him with Stenhouse Jr. and Logano for the most. Sadler finishes in the top 3 for the first time in 9 races, but that stretch includes 6 top 5's and 7 top 10's (6.3 avg fin). Kyle Busch now has a 7-start top 10 streak (5.3 avg fin), which includes 4 top 5's in the last 5 races. Kyle also reached 10+ top 10's for a 7th straight season in Nationwide. The #54 is now up to 8th in the owners points, on the strength of 12 top 5's but on the weakness of 7th finishes of 22nd or worse. Denny Hamlin picks up his 7th top 5 in 11 Nationwide starts this season, but hasn't finished better than 4th in his last 5 starts. Austin Dillon establishes a new rookie record with his 23rd top 10 of 2012. It breaks a record previously held by Kyle Busch who had 22 top 10's in 2004. Austin needs 2 top 5's in the last 4 races of 2012 to tie that rookie record, held by Kyle Busch (2004) and Greg Biffle (2001) at 16. 3 in 4 races would break it. Austin starts on the front row for the 4th time in the last 5 races, and picks up his 8th consecutive top 10 finish. Since his streak of 4 consecutive top 2 finishes, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has an average finish of just 11.0 in the next 3 to lose 22 points to Elliott Sadler, and 18 to Austin Dillon. Brian Scott has back-to-back top 10's for just the 2nd time this season; he has 3 in his last 4 races, and 5 finishes of 11th or better in the last 6. James Buescher picks up his first top 10 in his last 7 Nationwide starts, but has 8 in 19 starts this season (.421 top 10 %). Michael Annett now has top 10's in 7 consecutive races, scoring the 4th most points over that stretch (260). Although with her 11th place finish, Danica Patrick is 6th in points scored over that 7 race stretch as well but 56 points behind Annett (204). Cole Whitt's 5th (241). Ryan Blaney now has top 15 finishes in 8 of his first 10 career Nationwide starts. His average finish between NNS and Trucks this year is now 12.6 (15 starts). Brad Sweet has top 15 finishes in each of his last 3 starts (3 in his first 12 starts of 2012). 27. They do not want to race they want to run 3 laps and park and wait for money, 30. Paul posted: 10.17.2012 - 1:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @27 and 29, how is shrinking the field good for the sport? All this does is take away money from three teams that need it. Sure, this may only take away money from Curtis Key and Rick Ware's fleet of start-and-parks, but what if they decide to keep those teams next season? Considering how much faster those cars are compared to Mike Harmon, Morgan Shepherd, and Jay Robinson's cars, this will only hurt those teams and may cause them to fold. Half the Nationwide teams are barely getting by as it is, and all this does is make it harder for them to survive. As far as getting rid of start-and-parks, I don't see why so many people are against them. They provide jobs for people in this struggling economy, while also allowing their full distance cars to be able to go the distance. The only reason why the #40 car doesn't start-and-park is because the #42, #46, and #47 do instead, and even that sometimes isn't enough as Erik Darnell's team is likely to suffer part failure in the process. As for Rick Ware's cars, even though the #15 and #41 get some funding, there is no way he could run those cars the full race without having at least one start-and-park. He wanted to go the full year with just the #41 for Blake Koch and have the #15 of Timmy Hill run part-time while attempting to win the Cup R.O.Y. award. It didn't work as Koch lost his sponsorship, they had to bring Timmy back to Nationwide because he had sponsorship, and they started running a start-and-park car with Scott Riggs. Soon, Koch was forced to start-and-park, but left because he saw he wasn't going anywhere with that team, and eventually they needed a 3rd start-and-park because Timmy's sponsorship ran out. Now they field two distance cars, one for Timmy and another for any driver with sponsorship, while having two cars park. You may not like it, but it provides jobs for people while helping keep that team afloat. And as far as NASCAR's explanation about "strengthening the level of competition", that's complete bullshit. All this does is lower the number of start-and-park cars. Right now, there are 43 cars in the field and about 8-10 of them have no intention of running the full distance. Next year, there will be 40 cars in the field and about 5-7 of them will have no intention of running the full race. Either way, only 33-35 cars will run run the full race, and dropping the start-and-park teams isn't going to change that. Plus, this will hurt new teams that try going the distance, such as Scott Lagasse, Jr.'s team and (if it actually happens) Scott Wimmer's team because they have few (if any) owner points and shrinking the field only makes it harder for them to qualify. Back in 2008, NASCAR embraced the start-and-park teams, especially Phil Parsons' teams, because they prevented short fields and gave NASCAR their full TV revenue for having 43 cars at the track. Now, they're trying to run them off. This is a terrible move by NASCAR as they are out trying to please the fans by trying to eliminate start-and-park teams because they fear they will lose money in ticket sales, merchandise sales, and TV ratings by not listening to the fans. At the expense of hurting several teams financially and making it harder to survive in this sport, I don't know why anybody would embrace this idea. But don't worry, they just signed a $2.4 billion deal with FOX for coverage of NASCAR through 2022. I think they can get by without your money. 31. 10andJoe posted: 10.17.2012 - 5:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) -Josh Wise's 100th series start. 32.
