Everyone expected it to be a single file parade type of race, but the multiple grooves got worked in really well. Stenhouse wins it after causing that dustup with Joey Logano. It was Stenhouse's fault, but I thought Logano took it a little overboard. His lack of care for the pit crews as he expressed his displeasure with Stenhouse on pit road was asinine. Tough break for Johanna Long and Scott Lagasse. Both were having good runs before they unfortunately crashed out. And Brian Scott pulled a "Brian Vickers at Martinsville" kind of day as he had not one, not two, but three crashes. Not only that, but all three of them happened because he just overdrove the corners. As someone who lives in Idaho (where he is from), I'd like to apologize for the embarrassment he put on out there today. 4. 10andJoe posted: 10.20.2012 - 11:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #01 sponsor: JD Motorsports (plain red car) #10 sponsor: TriStar Motorsports (plain black car) #14 sponsor: Hefty / Reynolds Wrap (no notable Crowne Plaza logos) #19 sponsor: Bandit Chippers (no notable Crowne Plaza logos) #51 sponsor: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital #52 sponsor: Better Business Bureau #71 sponsor: Lilly Trucking #88 sponsor: Clean Coal - America's Power #89 sponsor: Racing With Jesus/Hyland's Leg Cramps 5. I haven't seen a driver act that bitchy in a long time. He's lucky that no one was on the right side of Stenhouse's car during that pit stop because that was utterly careless. And not to mention, the bump after the race was a little unnecessary as well. I'd understand if this was Cup and Logano was in the Chase, but this is a Nationwide race in which he isn't even racing for a championship. He definitely went overboard. Should he be pissed? Yes. Should he have acted like that? No. 9. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.21.2012 - 12:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) Vintage Swervin Stenhouse. Runs great, makes an unassisted error, wins anyways. He is the most exciting driver in NASCAR to watch. And Logano and his silver spoon needs to get over it. Everything has to be perfect for him to win. So Ricky is already ahead of him in that category. Glad I hung around and watched the end. After Jeremy Clements blew up and Johanna blew a tire, I was gonna find something else to do. 10. With how good Ricky has been on the 1.5 tracks this year, it's very likely he could steal the points lead by winning Texas or Homestead. If Elliott does lose the championship by a small margin, it can be traced back to NASCAR screwing him out of the win at Indy during the summer. That, and his crash at the September Richmond race while running in the top 3. To be fair to Brian Scott, they did mention he was running an R&D setup on the tires. There are only three races left for Kyle to keep his streak of winning in the Nationwide series alive, a streak which covers over 50 wins between 2004-2011. First manufacturer's championship for Chevrolet since 2007 I think. Danica Patrick apparently didn't know that Keselowski wasn't driving the #22 in this race. 18. If you watched the entire race yesterday, you'd notice that they made some dumb mistakes -- especially when Stenhouse was two laps down during that caution and RCR elected to pull Menard and Sadler down pit road, allowing Stenhouse to get the wave-around and one of his laps back. That was so stupid on their part. If they didn't do that, Sadler would have likely gained ground on Stenhouse, instead of giving up a few points. But, that's just me.... 24. All he had to do was keep one of his cars, probably the #33 out an extra lap or two to give the appearance that they were gng to stay out to force Stenhouse to pit, which may have been a mistake by Paul Menard, or his crew chief. I can almost guarantee you that Kevin Harvick would have made the decision to stay out from the cockpit, because he employed those tactics two years ago, and admited his reasoning for it. Remember that in the Southern 500 earlier this year, it was never mentioned, but a main reason that Denny Hamlin did not pit during one of the cautions was to keep Jeff Gordon, one of Darlington's greatest masters, one lap down. It worked out for him for other reasons, but the purpose was to keep Gordon a lap down, though Gordon had other problems that made that decision moot. And also, Joey Logano wasn't the only one upset at Stenhouse after that idiotic move he pulled on Logano. Apparently Jack Roush, Stenhouse's car owner was none too pleased either, and apparently told Stenhouse to apologize to Logano for the incident. I'm not sure if he has, but Stenhouse even had his car owner mad at him after that one. After all, I still don't think he's apologized to Scott Speed after blatantly taking him out of the ARCA championship several years ago, though there had been animosity brewing between those two. So if Roush is waiting for Stenhouse to apologize to Logano for yesterday's incident, I hope he's not holding his breath. After all, it wasn't until his victory lane interview that he finally admitted those pit road miscues he made several races ago were his fault. At least he figures to have a driver in that car next year (Trevor Bayne) that is known for not making such foolish moves, and is actually liked by his fellow competitors, unlike Stenhouse, who is almost universally disliked by his competitors. 26. murb posted: 10.21.2012 - 1:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) I wouldn't be surprised if Childress does screw Elliott out of this championship. The way he's been acting since 2011, you never know what he's gonna pull. He's quickly become the dirtiest owner in the sport. Luckily, Elliott will be going over to JGR next year, where he will be taking advantage of even faster cars than RCR (he'll most likely drive the 18 car), and where he will most likely be the odds on favorite for the championship. 27. Ricky is a talented driver, but I'd be surprised if he won a race in Cup next year. She had a major part of ruining Bobby Rahal's team, Michael Andretti was fortunate that she didn't stay there another year, because they were heading in the same direction, Dale, Jr.'s NNS team has done nothing since they brought her in, and now Tony Stewart's team has to put up with her shenanigans, and they won't go far with Stewart. He'll see to that, unlike her other past employers. If you remember last year, when Danica split time in the #7 NNS car with Josh Wise, it was Wise that actually performed better. Now it's Cole Whitt, who I actually have high hopes for in the future, and who can get up there with the top 5-8 runners on these mid-sized tracks, something Danica is incapable of doing, that Danica is having problems with in the teammate department. But Danica has never really gotten along with anyone, so why is the fact that she doesn't get along with Whitt any surprise. She's ruined every team she's been with, and if she drives for Tony Stewart'steam for any great length of time, she'll ruin Stewart's the same way she ruined the other teams she's been with, and I don't think Stewart and his team are going to stand for it very long. In fact, she's already drawn the ire of one of Stewart's long-time NASCAR partners, Greg Zipadelli, when she wrecked her car tryign to do the same to Landon Cassill, and Cassill had some unkind remarks about Danica over his radio, and Cassill is not the kind to say anything bad about anyone, and if Cassill can get under her skin (which is something a misplaced hair can do), just imagine what a driver like Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, or one of the Busch brothers would do. 36. I'm not sure if he'll win in Cup as a rookie, but once he picks up his first win I expect him to be back in victory lane on a regular basis. Joey's headed in the opposite direction, he looks good in NNW, but may never add to his win total in Cup. And I think he knows that, too. Oh, and the NNW championship is still exciting without a Chase gimmick. ;) 37. Richie61NYfan posted: 10.22.2012 - 11:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Great post cjs. But the mere fact that Danica and Marco Andretti always seem to find the front at Indy (Marco had the best car in this year's Indianapolis 500, only to have his team screw it up for him in the pits) shows how easy Indy is to drive. A lot of people think it's a difficult track to drive because of it's unique layout. That was once true, but aerodynamics and wider tires have made it one of the easiest tracks to drive, even at the higher speeds of today. In fact, I believe it's one of the five easiest non-restrictor plate tracks on the NASCAR circuit today to drive, but I also think it's the hardest to win at because you literally have to have everything to go in your favor to win there, which when combined with the history of IMS, makes the Brickyard 400 the second or third biggest race on the circuit behind only the Daytona 500 and possibly the Coca-Cola 600. 39. I don't know, I think his aggressive style will be the reason that he gets at least one win next year. He may have a lot of issues during the season because of it, but as long as Roush doesn't drop off to RCR-in-2012 levels of futility or something then he could sneak in a win at an intermediate track. If he starts from the front row and can stay out front or in the top 3 for pretty much the entire race. 40. His 6 wins in 2012 are the most by a Nationwide regular since Martin Truex Jr. posted 6 wins in 2004 and 2005 on his way to back-to-back championships. Stenhouse won 3 of the first 10 races this season, then went win-less in 13 straight before now winning 3 of the last 7 races. His 17 top 5's this season leads all drivers and surpasses his total from his 2011 championship season (16). Austin Dillon qualifies on the front row for the 5th time in the last 6 races, and picks up his 1st career runner-up finish in Nationwide (17th top 5 in 41 starts). It's his 9th consecutive top 10 and 3rd top 3 finish in the last 5 races (2 in the first 25 races of 2012). Austin just needs 1 more top 5 in the last 3 races to tie the record for top 5's in a Nationwide season by a rookie, 16 which is held by Kyle Busch (2004) and Greg Biffle (2001). Speaking of Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Dillon are the first reigning Nationwide and Truck Series champions to finish 1-2 in a Nationwide race since Biffle (2000 Truck champ) and Jeff Green (2000 Nationwide champ) finished 1-2 at Phoenix back in October of 2001. Joey Logano earned his 21st career Nationwide Series pole and series-leading 5th of 2012. It's his 9th top 3 finish in 19 starts this season (3rd behind Brad Keselowski with 10 and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. with 13), including 4 in his last 5. Elliott Sadler picks up his 4th straight top 5 finish. Cole Whitt makes it 2 rookies in the top 5 with his 4th of the season and first in 17 races. But it's his 5th top 10 in the last 8 races (9.0 avg fin). Interestingly, his current average finish in NNS this season (13.7) is identical to his avg fin in his rookie season in Trucks last season. Kyle Busch comes up 1 lap short on fuel for his 1st win in his own car, but does finish in the top 10 for an 8th consecutive start. Justin Allgaier's 18th top 10 of the year surpasses his total (17) from 2011, his first year with Turner Motorsports. But it's just his 3rd top 10 in the 8 races since his Montreal win (17.25 avg fin). Michael Annett extends his top 10 streak to 8 straight races (8 top 10's in the first 22 races of 2012). Sam Hornish Jr. becomes the 4th driver to reach 20 top 10's this season. With 3 races to go, the only other driver who could reach 20 before the year is out is Justin Allgaier. It's just his 3rd top 10 in the last 6 races (12 straight top 10's prior to that). Danica Patrick picks up just her 3rd top 10 of the season; she had 3 top 10's in her first 6 starts of 2011, but has just 3 in her last 36 starts dating back to last year. Ryan Blaney has now gone 3 consecutive starts without a top 10, but gets his 9th top 15 finish in 11 starts this season and improves his average finish in 16 starts between NNS and Trucks this season to 12.5. Danny Efland gets his first career top 15 finish at a non-plate track, the 3rd of his career (all in 2012) and 8th top 20 finish (6 in 2012) in 55 career starts. Eric McClure ties his best career finish of 15th (last time was 2008 at Talladega), which is just his 3rd in 25 starts in 2012 and 15th in 196 career starts. Paul Menard leads a career-high 110 laps and 100+ for the 2nd time in his career (both this season), but sees his top 10 streak in Nationwide end at 14 consecutive starts. 41. Clements was running 12th when trouble struck and he slowed rapidly on the track, and he went on to bypass his team's pit stall and pull straight into the garage with what wound up being diagnosed as a busted water pump, apparently. The 35th was the worst result of the season for Clements and the third of four DNFs on the year, all mechanical-related.
