Logano once again wrecks an underfunded team while driving his well funded Cup backed effort with a rich kid behind the wheel who has had everything handed to him. I really really really really really can't stand that guy. He is everything I don't like. A silver spooner, sense of entitlement, undeserved hype, underachiever, full time Cup guy dominating the minor leagues, doesn't have a clue what true hard work is, keeps getting undeserved chances, a whiner, would do a burnout after finishing 16th in a race, joined the "scrub who roughed up a legend to win a race at Pocono" club, stupid nickname, hypocrite (publically trashed Gordon last week, does something equally dispicible act this week), a loser, nothing interesting about him, fills up an entire paragraph of things I don't like about him. 6. 44andJoe posted: 11.17.2012 - 9:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #24 sponsor: Headrush/OCR Gazbar #30 sponsor: Florida Lottery 25th Anniversary #40 sponsor: The Motorsports Group #51 sponsor: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 7. slowbird posted: 11.17.2012 - 9:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great job Regan! The classlessness of Gordon's actions last week was really disgusting. I don't think Logano meant to wreck Johanna today (I may be wrong), but even if it was intentional, it's about a level below the douchebagness that Gordon had at Phoenix. I'm not even a Bowyer fan and it had me really angry. 9. 44andJoe posted: 11.17.2012 - 9:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^ The difference is Logano has established a pattern of dumping N'wide regulars who don't get out of his way fast enough for his liking. 10. But, I really do hate Logano. Doesn't deserve to be where he's at right now. Since Stenhouse didn't sound very enthusiastic about his championship, I'm kinda questioning what they did to the car before the race since it sounded like they did something that made him think throughout the whole race that he had the championship won. Either that, or success might be getting to him. 11. ch posted: 11.17.2012 - 10:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor Changes... 00 - #teamboom 08 - Uponer / Tobacco Free Florida 7 - GoDaddy.com 31 - Greater Winfield / Brandt 41 - Rick Ware Racing 42 - The Motorsports Group 51 - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital / USS James E Williams DDG 95 12. He could probaby sense how happy they are to be getting rid of him, and thus not be all that thrilled to be celebrating with those guys. Plus he's probably long since checked out of the NWide Series mentally and looking towards his Cup career. Remember Kurt Busch, who was equally reviled by his team, after winning the Cup campionship in '04? His championship interview shattered Dale Earnhardt's record set in 1991 for least amount of joy shown in a championshp interview. Brendan Gaughan had a great run, finishing in third. It will be interesting to see his plans for next season. Scott Lagasse Jr. had his strongest run of the season, finishing one lap down in 19th. Dakota Armstrong, Andrew Ranger, Jason Bowles, Johanna Long and Robert Richardson probably want to forget this race. Erik Darnell fails to finish in the #40. This was a frustrating year for Darnell and the #40 team, the only thing he accomplished was running full races instead of parking on lap 7. Maybe Chase Miller gets the #40 next season. John Blankenship and Dexter Stacy got themselves out of the way before halfway, while Hal Martin stayed slow enough to stay under control and avoid ruining someone's bid for the championship. 21. Paul posted: 11.18.2012 - 2:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This wasn't Scott Lagasse, Jr.'s strongest run of the year, although it was his best finish. His strongest run came at Kansas when he was on the lead lap in about 15th place when the aforementioned Hal Martin, who was about 6 laps down, decided to race him side-by-side on the fast one-grooved track and slid up into Lagasse, putting them both in the wall and ending their races. That being said, congrats to Regan Smith on proving Furniture Row wrong that he is a great racer, as seen by his ability to win for a team that hadn't won in two years...IN HIS FIRST START IN FIVE YEARS. Hell of a job Regan. Hope he's a strong contender for the Nationwide title in 2013. Speaking of strong title contenders, Trevor Bayne will be a warm welcome to Mike Kelley and that #6 Nationwide team after a year of putting up with Stenhouse's very talented driving, but often reckless behavior and immature demeanor. Trevor isn't a driver who will win 5 or 6 races in a season, but he certainly isn't one who will crash out while running in 2nd at Dover, blame a lapped car for running over his pit crew, wreck himself while surprisingly running in 2nd at Montreal, or hit the wall by over-driving the car at Kentucky and finishing 17th with a top five car. He will be a breath of fresh air for his team next season, who I believe were fed up with Stenhouse by the end of the season. cjs mentioned it on the Cup page, but next year the Nationwide Series will largely be contended between conservative drivers. The top drivers will be Bayne, Sadler, Vickers, Smith, Dillon, and Hornish, with Allgaier, Annett, and Gaughan as dark horses (and Buescher if he gets moved up). All of these drivers are fairly cautious, conservative drivers (although Allgaier was reckless at times this year), and because of that we may see a pretty close battle for this championship that gets awarded to whichever driver makes the least mistakes. Sadler and Vickers will have the equipment advantage by going over to JGR, but I have a feeling that Bayne and Smith will be in that mix as well since they are less mistake-prone than Sadler and Vickers. I'll be surprised if one of those other drivers I mentioned are serious title contenders next year over those four. 23. After all, I didn't exactly see Cole Whitt in Victory Lane either. I'm telling you this hatred for Danica is ridiculous. I mean people love Johanna Long like she can do no wrong. Her defenders will point to her Snowball Derby win, well you do realize she spun Landon Cassill at the end of that race to win it. Her truck series results were pathetic considering it's easier for an underfunded family team to get results there [example Ryan Sieg]. This is not a beauty/attraction thing either. I personally find Danica to be physically under-developed for an adult female with the face of a plain Jane at best. I just think that after a long line of untalented [Kim Crosby or the Cope twins] or uncommitted [Shawna Robinson & Christi Passmore] female drivers we actually have one that puts up results, and yet it's never good enough for you people. 26. Smith had just 3 top 5's, a best finish of 5th three times, and 6 top 10's in his first 102 Nationwide starts. Rex Stump wins in his first race as a Nationwide crew chief, although Steve Letarte was also helping out the team and they had the #88 Cup team's pit crew. It's Jr Motorsports' 10th career Nationwide win, their first since Jamie McMurray won at Atlanta in 2010. Kyle Busch fails to win a race in Nationwide for the first time since 2004, back when he was an 18 year old finishing 2nd in two of his first 3 starts. But after having just 3 top 10's in his first 11 starts this season, Kyle ended the year with top 10's in 11 consecutive starts to help KBM finish 8th in the owners points in their first season in the series (1 win, 15 top 5's, 22 top 10's, 481 laps led, 10.7 avg fin). Brendan Gaughan ends up with 3 top 5's for a 3rd straight season that he competed in Nationwide. But the first two were in full seasons while he made just 10 starts in 2012 (5 top 10's, 13.6 average finish). Gaughan had top 3 finishes in 2 of his last 3 races. Between Nationwide and Trucks, Gaughan ended up with 7 top 5's, 9 top 10's and a 12.4 average finish in 18 starts in 2012. Sam Hornish Jr. ends his first full season in Nationwide by being the 6th driver in 2012 to have at least 10 top 5's and ended up 4th in top 10's with 22. Hornish had no top 10's in his first 20 Nationwide starts but now has 12 top 5's and 28 top 10's in his last 46 starts dating back to 2011. Austin Dillon is the first rookie to ever lead the series in top 10's in a season, joining his brother Ty who's the first rookie to lead the Trucks in top 10's. Austin's 16th top 5 of the year ties the rookie record set by Greg Biffle in 2001 and Kyle Busch in 2004, and he's just the 2nd rookie (who wasn't also driving full time in Cup) to finish top 3 in the standings (2nd in 2004 by Kyle Busch, 3rd in 2000 by Kevin Harvick). His 7.1 average finish is also a rookie record and led the series. Dillon ends 2012 with 12 consecutive top 10 finishes, which ties Sam Hornish Jr. for the longest top 10 streak this season. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clinched the 2012 Nationwide Series championship, his 2nd straight, with his 26th top 10 of the year, matching his total from 2011. But Stenhouse ended up with more wins (6 vs. 2), top 5's (series-leading 19 vs. 16), poles (4 vs. 3), laps led (788 vs. 541), and a better avg start (5.8 vs. 7.2) and avg fin (7.3 vs. 8.8). Stenhouse had his own Brad Keselowski-like finish to 2012, with 17 finishes of 9th or better in the last 19 races of the season (3 wins, 12 top 5's, 5.3 avg fin). Brian Scott finishes 2012 with a career-high 11 top 10's (12 in his first two seasons combined), but had just 4 top 5's total in his two seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing and was worse in the standings in 2012 (9th) then he was in 2011 (8) with a worse average finish (18.2 vs. 16.2). Ryan Blaney picks up his 7th top 10 in 13 Nationwide starts this season (13.5 avg fin). Between Nationwide and Trucks, Blaney ran 22 races this year and ended up with 1 win, 3 top 5's, 12 top 10's and a 12.8 average finish. All as an 18 year old. Elliott Sadler joins Carl Edwards (2008-10), Ricky Craven (1993-94) and Jack Ingram (1983-84) as the only drivers to finish 2nd in the standings in back-to-back seasons. This despite Sadler improving in wins (4 vs. 0, top 5's (15 vs. 12), laps led (366 vs. 181), avg start (6.7 vs. 8.7) and avg fin (7.6 vs. 9.8) compared to 2011. Sadler went back-to-back races without a top 10 finish just 3 times in 2012, but that includes the 31st and 32nd races of the season which cost him the championship. Cole Whitt finishes 2nd in the ROTY standings thanks to 14 top 10's in 2012, 6 of them coming within the last 11 races of the season. It's the first time that 2 rookies finished top 10 in the standings since David Ragan (5th) and Marcos Ambrose in 2007, and the first time two or more finished top 7 in points since 2005 with Carl Edwards (3rd), Reed Sorenson (4th) and Denny Hamlin (5th). For those doubting whether Whitt has the potential to be a Cup driver, Denny Hamlin had just 1 top 5 and 11 top 10's as a rookie back in 2005. Justin Allgaier just misses out on finishing top 5 in points to talk at the banquet, but he's now finished top 6 in points in all 4 of his full seasons in Nationwide dating back to 2009. His 68 top 10's since 2009 rank 5th in the series. After having no top 5's and just 13 top 10's in his first 3 full seasons in Nationwide (10th, 13th and 9th in points), Michael Annett broke out big in 2012 with 6 top 5's, 17 top 10's and 5th in the standings. It's the first time that a driver for a Petty-owned team has finished top 5 in points in any series in NASCAR since Richard Petty was 4th in the standings in Cup in 1983. After having 1 top 5, 3 top 10's and a 17.4 average finish in 12 Nationwide starts in 2011, Danica Patrick regressed in 2012 with just 4 top 10's and an 18.8 average finish to finish 10th in the standings in 2012. Her 4 top 10's ranked in a tie for 21st. Joey Coulter finishes 14th in his 2nd career Nationwide Series start, after finishing 10th in his series debut. Joey Logano finishes outside of the top 10 for just the 5th time in 22 races in 2012, but it's good enough for Joe Gibbs Racing to win their 4th Nationwide Series owners championship in the last 5 seasons. Mike Bliss finishes top 10 in points for the 5th time in 7 full seasons in Nationwide. His 1 top 10 finish is the fewest for a driver to finish top 10 in points in Nationwide ever; the previous fewest was in 2006 when Bobby Hamilton Jr. was 6th in points with just 3 top 10's. 13 drivers ran every single race in 2012, down from 15 in 2011. 40. Sam Hornish, Jr. and Ryan Blaney had the only Dodges in the field and sent the brand out with a pair of top-10 runs. Penske had run Mopars in the series since it stepped up its involvement on the tour in 2005. Penske sold off its potent fleet of Dodge Challengers after this race to many lower budget teams in the series. The Challenger remained a common sight in the series for years afterward, some even turning up still painted in the yellow Alliance Truck Parts scheme Hornish often ran but quickly renumbered. 52.
