Paul posted: 04.26.2013 - 7:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Benjamin, the Nationwide Series should just become NASCAR's version of Roller Derby. While all the Cup guys are going around 5-10 MPH faster than everyone else in their top of the line equipment, the Nationwide drivers (specifically the backmarkers) should just wait for the Cup guys to approach them, and then try and take them out. At least then it would make for an exciting race, even if a Cup guy wound up winning in the end. We could say "Well, I wish [Cup driver] didn't win, but man that was exciting! I can't wait for the next Nationwide race!" <-- Said no one. Ever. 10. 83andJoe posted: 04.26.2013 - 7:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) "Oh, they should just wreck them!" Disgusting. 11. I'm glad that Carl mentioned that Michael Annett is a former hockey player, and as such is one tough guy in spite of his sternum injury. Besides me, he's the only person I've heard mention that fact. Hockey players always return from injuries quicker than other athletes, so if he'll be back by the end of next month at Charlotte like Allen Bestwick just reported on, imagine how long he'd be out if he was some wimpy driver...like half of the Cup drivers. 41. His personality reminds me a lot like Trevor Bayne's. He didn't start racing stock cars until he was about 22 years old, and I've been impressed by the way he races on the track, given his equipment and lack of experience. If I didn't know any better, I'd say ESPN pretty much blacklisted him from being mentioned on the broadcast, especially after they denied airing his sponsor "Rise Up and Register"'s commercial early last season, which wound up costing Koch his ride with Rick Ware Racing. I'm also very big on Johanna Long, Joe Nemechek, and David Reutimann. I gained a lot of respect for "Front Row Joe" for running about six races during his '92 championship season with burns on his body after his fiery crash at Daytona. I made a mistake by originally listing Jeff Gordon as the deserving '92 Busch champion (mostly because of his high number of poles and laps led), but in doing so I was able to research Nemechek's '92 season, and after doing so, gained a lot of knowledge about his title season and ultimately changed my mind as to who the deserving champion really was. The right man won the title that year, and I'm happy for Floridians that they have a champion driver to pull for every weekend. 151. Unfortunate for the young man, since he had a good run going. Brian Scott also almost got wrecked by Nelson Piquet Jr. off turn 2 with two laps to go (I think), saved it and nearly stacked the field up behind them. Then, after the race, Scott started rubbing up against Piquet in turns 3 and 4, and Piquet subsequently turned him around and backed him into the inside wall near the entrance of pit road. On pit road, the two drivers got out of their cars and started scuffling a little bit, with Piquet getting the last shot with a kick to the balls, although I think he was just trying to get Scott away from him. And Piquet said "shit" afterwards on TV. Boy, after leading early, Sam Hornish Jr. was nowhere to be found in the second half of the race! Couple good runs by some drivers. Surprised that Brian Scott is 3rd in points...could have been closer to the points battle if not for that incident tonight too. He's having a good year. 186. Still not leading much, but consistent. 187. murb posted: 04.27.2013 - 1:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Damn, apparently a couple of RCR crew members were arrested for assault after the Piquet/Scott confrontation last night. Somehow, RCR team members being arrested for attempting to be badasses doesn't really surprise me. 188. Had they let Harvick fight Rudd at this track 10 years ago, he would have been seriously humbled, and after recovering from his injuries and most likely missing the rest of '03 he would be a much better driver now. 189. cjs3872 posted: 04.27.2013 - 6:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well Cichon, I predicted on the last Nationwide race page that Brian Scott would crash to earth, though I didn't necessarily think it was going to be in the next race (he's still third in points as of now, even with his sub-par night), and I didn't really think Justin Allgaier was going to be up there for the balance of the season, either, but again, I didn't expect his fall to come so soon. Austin Dillon's falling does come as a surprise to me. And with the recent problems that Sam Hornish has been having, both of Joe Gibbs' championship-eligible drivers have gotten back into the mix, and one can still seriously contend, though I'm not entirely sure which one it will be. And with just 13 points separating fourth and ninth, those position will be volatile, especially with Talladega coming up next. Frankly, I think that's a make-or-break race for Trevor Bayne's shot at the title, because that's one of the races I think he can win (and there aren't many). If Bayne fails to win either Talladega or Daytona in July, Roush could very well go winless in the Nationwide Series this year. After all, who would have ever believed he would struggle just to stay in the top 12 last night. Anothr driver that's getting into "now or never" territory is Dillon, who's struggling more than I thought he would. Perhaps the malaise that's affecting his Cup team has now spilled over to his Nationwide team. It really does look like a 2-driver battle for the title, but with a restrictor plate race coming up next and another coming in July, anything could still happen. If Horish and Regan Smith both get in wrecks at Talladega, which could easily happen, it's anyone's race for the title, but I think time is already starting to run out on the likes of Bayne and Dillon, arguably the two favorites going into the season given the teams they drive for. 190. He also has the third highest top 15 efficiency in the Nationwide Series (+20.6%), meaning that he's finishing in the top 15 20.6% more frequently than he's actually running in the top 15; not to mention the fact that he has the 4th highest PEER rating (3.321) and a 0.00 crash frequency rating. His equipment and team aren't very good, but he's making the most of it with some solid and consistent runs week-in and week-out. If Brian Vickers gets moves up to Cup next season to drive with MWR (which is very likely to happen), Kligerman would make a great replacement for Vickers with the JGR #20 team in 2014. His PEER rating is barely below Regan Smith's, who is currently one point out of the points lead in this series, and putting Kligerman is more competitive equipment would surely make him a championship contender. 192.
