TeamPlayersBlue posted: 05.25.2013 - 2:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) At least they got rid of Jack "Cheese Grater" Arute. His final straw was saying Japan was in the Southern Hemisphere and likely a drug trip the night before the Motegi race when he was sweating like crazy in mild temps on the broadcast. Fired after that. 16. murb posted: 05.25.2013 - 2:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, Jack Arute was pretty annoying. Luckily it doesn't look like BSPN has the awful pit studio with Nicole, Rusty, and Brad this weekend, so that's a major plus. 17. His 7 Top 10s in the past 7 races means he has 7 straight Top 10s now you don't have to look it up cause BSPN already did. 26. They have Greg "I'm so agressive I'll run second to anyone" Biffle, Carl Edwards, their only real threat to win each week, and "Rookie" Ricky Stenhouse, who probably has a David Ragan-type leash as far as performance goes. Then, they have Trevor Bayne, Travis "PR" Pastrana, and Chris Buescher, who I'm surprised BSPN hasn't called "Bucsh" yet. So, what's gonna happen? Pastrana is probably 2 years away, Bueshcer 3. Bayne was more Cup ready last year than Stenhouse is this year. Roush has one open seat, 2 if you count the #21. Will Biffle retire by the time Buescher is ready? I don't think so. So is Roush gonna screw someone over Erik Darnell/Colin Braun/Todd Kleuver/David Ragan style? What's everyone think will give there? 39. What Kyle is doing now, and the others I mentioned have done previously, is pathetic. No wonder The Emotionless Juggernaut keeps kicking ass and riving people away. He is in his air conditioned home or motorhome resting and hydrating while these idiots are doing this garbage. Paul posted: 05.26.2013 - 1:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I didn't see much of this race and missed the entire second half of the event, so here are a few thoughts I have after seeing the final results: When I last saw the race, Brian Vickers, Sam Hornish, Jr., and Regan Smith were running 2-3-4 behind Kyle Busch, and they wound up finishing 11th, 12th, and 10th, respectively. I know Vickers and his team have a constant tendency to fade during races this season (I think he would be 2nd or 3rd in points if he could finish where he runs) and Hornish seems to have come back down to earth over the past five races (since the off week following the Fontana race), but I'm really surprised at Regan Smith's 10th place finish. He's one of the best drivers in the Nationwide Series at retaining his position throughout the race, so for him to fall from 4th to 10th in the final half of the race caught me off guard. Perhaps one of those later cautions put his team in a hole, but that jumped out at me when I saw the race results. Then again, for Regan to finish 10th and for me to consider that a disappointing result for him is a testament to how well he and his team have run this season. Not losing any points to Hornish didn't hurt either. On a reverse note, Trevor Bayne, Justin Allgaier, and Parker Kligerman were all running in the 12th-18th place range while I was watching, and they each had solid top ten finishes in the end, finishing 6th, 7th, and 9th, respectively. Good for the latter three drivers and teams to make their cars better at the end. It's too late for Bayne to make a run for the title, but he should be able to crack the top ten in points within the next week or so, and should finish no worse than 8th in points this season considering his equipment. If he manages to finish in the top five in points this season, it will be a testament to he and Mike Kelley have finally reached common ground on car setups, and could ponder the question of keeping Bayne in Nationwide another season in hopes of winning the championship in 2014 (a la, Stenhouse/Kelley from 2010 to 2011). And while I highly doubt either Allgaier or Kligerman will be title contenders by season's end, they are producing this season and both have a good chance of finishing in the top five points this season. Michael Annett ran around 20th place the entire time in his first race back since Daytona, finishing 17th. It could be that it just took him a while to get settled into the car in this race, but for him to finish about where Reed Sorenson ran during his time in the #43 car might be more telling about the team itself than of the drivers in the car. For Kevin Swindell and Mike Bliss to finish on the lead lap at a horsepower track like Charlotte, given the fact that one of them drives for a part-time Nationwide-only team while the other is generally unsponsored, is a testament to the talents behind the wheel of those two race cars. In a perfect world, Mike Bliss would have a top flight Nationwide ride, but alas, a 48-year old non-full-time Cup driver with just two Nationwide wins probably doesn't make any big sponsor's radar. And I hope Swindell makes the jump full-time to Nationwide next season, given his talent. Hmmm, he drives a Ford, prefers a loose race car, and Roush may have a Nationwide opening next year... I'm pretty surprised at how slow Steve Wallace was in this race. He was lapped very early in the event and was running just in front of uncle Mike for a good part of the race. He managed to keep the car clean once again, which could be an indication that he has toned it down ever since he lost his full-time Nationwide ride (or it could just be due to a very small sample size of races), but he finished four laps down in 25th place, one spot behind uncle Mike. This was the only schedule race for Steve and his #66 RWR team, and it'd be a shame if they worked so hard for this one race and this is the only result they get this season. I hate that Pastrana, Townley, Nemechek, and Armstrong all had torn up cars at the end of this race. Pastrana summed it up perfectly in his interview by saying he "ran out of talent" as he hit the inside wall hard coming off turn 2. Not sure who Townley ran into or why he ran into another car after the caution came out, but it tore up his car and caused Nemechek to dart across the race track and make contact with Pastrana's stopped car as he tried to avoid running into Townley. I'm going to give Townley the benefit of the doubt on that deal because we saw what can happen when the spotter doesn't communicate to a driver that the caution is out at Texas earlier this year, when Jeff Burton ran into the back of Mark Martin after the caution came out, causing him to wreck. And it looked like Armstrong was the proverbial "meat in the middle of a sandwich" when he wrecked. It looked like he was trying to give Alex Bowman room coming off turn 2, but wound up moving into Michael Annett and getting himself turned into the outside wall. At first glance it kind of looked like Annett hooked him, but I just think that was hard racing for position, with one driver making a mistake and moving up the race track into another car and wrecking himself. 264. cjs3872 posted: 05.26.2013 - 1:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) As a matter of fact, The Long Shot, I am 40, and I think there's another poster who's been watching NASCAR longer than I've been alive, so there are older posters on here. I've been watching NASCAR since 1989, so this is my 25th year watching the sport. Some observations about this race. No surprise Kyle Busch did what he did, as there were only three green flag racing laps, oddly enough, all after either the start or restarts, that he did not lead, and never more than one at any time. It may be time for NASCAR to consider doing what they did to the Toyota engines a few years ago, because it sees that they have a BIG horsepower advantage over everyone else. Of course, having Kyle Busch doesn't hurt, either. Kyle was also the only driver that finished in the top ten that actually led the race at any point. But as dominant as he was Kasey Kahne was there to keep him honest at the end, as the finish of his race looked a lot like the 2009 Coca-Cola 600 did before the rains ended the race early, with Kahne able to keep up with Kyle despite a somewhat slower car. Kyle Larson showed why many think he's the next superstar (or one of them) by rallying to finish fourth, the highest of the championship-eligible drivers, two spots over Trevor Bayne, who was sixth, despite a car that was uncompetitive with the front runners (and the ugliest car on the track). That was a typical performance from him, as he charged at the end after running about 12th all day in a 12th-15th place car, but the Roush cars have no speed at all this year, in addition to having mostly conservative drivers, as it looks like he may go winless in this series for the very first time unless he takes some drastic steps. Frankly, I don't know how he finds speed at the end of the race he doesn't show during the rest of the race, especially in a slow car like he had today. Justin Allgaier had a run similar to Bayne's and scratched out a seventh place finish, while points leader Regan Smith added to his point lead again with a respectable, but disappointing tenth place finish, because Sam Hornish, Jr. faded even worse at the end, dropping from a top three run to 12th, as he continues to fall into the clutches of those running third through seventh in the standings. 265. Hornish was in good position until a green flag pit stop came slightly too early for them, and he needed to save gas to make it until the end. He settled into about 3rd when the caution came out, and they elected to go with tires and pack er full of fuel to not worry about it. After that, he tangled with Michael Annett when Matt Kenseth dove 3 wide below the two of them, and he had to come to pit road to fix damage. So he finished 11th after coming from about 20th in the final laps. Vickers had a vibration with about 50 to go and had to come from tail and as well. And the decision to run Kenny Wallace in a second car has also torpedoed their efforts in the last two races. Is it any coincidence that their two worst races of the year so far have been the two races that they've decided to run a second car when they barely have enough people to run one car effectively. At least Kyle Larson is with a team that's more than just competent, but actually very competitive, as they're one of the more competitive teams, especially among those that is not a Cup team, or has direct Cup affiliation. They do get some help from Hendrick Motorsports, especially regarding engines, but Turner Motorsports has no direct affiliation with any Cup team that I know of, which makes their being able to run in the top five even more amazing, though Roush not being as competitive as they usually are so far this year certainly helps Turner's cause to no small degree. Larson's had some very good runs and Justin Allgaier is in points, and both were in the top seven yesterday. 281. ch posted: 05.26.2013 - 11:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor changes: 14 - Reynolds Wrap / Hefty 30 - Worx Yard Tools 55 - Viva Motorsports 98 - DenBeste Trucking / Carroll Shelby Engines 99 - Microsoft / Windows Owner Change: 98 - Fred Biagi (Mike Curb has absolutely nothing to do with this team, and the owner should be listed as Biagi for the 4 races the #98 has run) 282. Curb has as much to do with this team as Joe Gibbs does. The owner should be listed as Fred Biagi, just like it was in 2012. 292. I have no plans on watching the Dover race, likely another win for the 54 group. Thankfully, Iowa should be fun. I know Joey Logano is supposed to run the 22 there, but other than that, it should be a Nationwide only field. 296. b4il3y posted: 05.29.2013 - 2:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Top 5 from this race: Kyle Larson, Justin Allgaier, Parker Klingerman, Austin Dillon, Brian Scott. Last year, some (still only 13) nationwide regulars actually won. Although, 2 truck drivers also won, and Kurt Busch and Regan Smith were struggling in cup at that time, so thats not too bad. Looks like we will have another 2011, where only 6 nwide drivers actually won. 5 cup guys in the field for Dover, but Yeley does not run the whole race. Guessing Kyle will win again. Only 38 in the field though.
