Just wasn't as close as Darlington 2003... Also, when Kyle Busch nearly crashed on lap 5 a few minutes ago, you could just tell that BSPN was horrified. It was like, "Oh no! Kyle Busch almost crashed! That would've been terrible, because if Kyle was out of this race, what would we have to watch? It just wouldn't be a race anymore!" He's charged up from 11th to 3rd in points in just six races. If that team can become a consistent finisher this season, we might just see Vickers in the mix for his 2nd Nationwide title. 103. Trevor Bayne gained five positions as a result, going from 9th to 4th and staying in the top five for the rest of the race. That move helped put Bayne back into the top ten in points, just one point outside of 9th place. I sense that Kelley and Bayne are starting to work together pretty well, and the fact that Kelley trusted his driver enough to just take two tires when all but one other car took four speaks volumes as to how much he trusts his driver, and Bayne made Kelley look like a genius by maintaining a top five running position. If that team can get out in clean air more frequently this season, we'll be seeing Bayne become a consistent top five contender the rest of the way. 105. 13 posted: 06.01.2013 - 5:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) another mediocre run for Nelson Piquet Jr. , why does noone point this out? 106. murb posted: 06.01.2013 - 5:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "another mediocre run for Nelson Piquet Jr. , why does noone point this out?" Both of them are ranked 3rd out of the three full-time Turner drivers in their respective series in terms of production this season. I think Buescher and his team just got complacent after winning the title last year, and while he came off like he wanted to return for another Truck Series season in hopes of becoming the first back-to-back Truck Series champion, I just don't think his heart is in it this season and the results have shown. That's never a good thing, and if he isn't able to jump up to Nationwide next season, I'm not very optimistic about his career at Turner. 108. However, it figured that Bayne would do well at Dover, because Dover is a driver's track, and his best Nationwide Series performances have usually come on driver's tracks. And it was revealed after the race that Bayne's cool box failed late in the race, so he was hotter than most of the other drivers, and yet he still only lost one position on the last run, as he dropped to fourth place, despite the obvious disadvantage of having his cool box fail on him, resulting in an overheating driver. But also, with the season's first standalone race coming up, there are finally chances for championship-eligible drivers to actually win a race, and I would make Bayne one of the favorites at Iowa, given his and his team's record there. It's the horsepower tracks they figure to struggle at, because they're significantly down on horsepower, even to the Penske Fords. 111. Matt L posted: 06.01.2013 - 5:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) I was at the race. It was really difficult to pass (and really hot!). Once the field spread out, most of the passes were lap cars getting out of the way. Kyle Busch was the only guy that could pass the last 30 laps, and he had great difficulty doing it. The battle to the garage was comical as usual. Blake Koch was the first to come on pit road to 'check out' a supposed issue. Jeff Green, Morgan Shepherd, Josh Wise were among the others that played the BS game. It liked like a fastfood drivethru in the garage with all the S&Ps lined up waiting to be retired. Joey Gase did actually have a problem, he entered pit road with no power and stalled, NASCAR officials pushed the #52 the rest of the way to his stall. Cole Whitt did great in the #44. Too bad the sport is 80% money and 20% talent because he is clearly better than Hal Martin. Similarly, just a year ago Jeff Green scored a top 20 in the #14, this year McClure was a roadblock. MRN was fun to listen to, I think the announcers spent more time teasing the producer/director and joking around than following the race. They definately pump it up to sound way more exciting than it actually is, but I guess that is better than FOX or 2007 ESPN. 112. Strictly based on talent, TriStar Motorsports' lineup should be Mike Bliss, Jeff Green, and Cole Whitt, with Chad Hackenbracht running a partial schedule in a 4th part-time car to go along with his partial schedule for KBM in the Truck Series. It was out of the ordinary to see two TriStar cars on the lead lap and inside the top 20 all race (not to mention seeing someone other than Mike Bliss be the highest running team car). If they had funding for all three of those drivers to compete for a full season, I'm sure seeing all three of them running inside the top 20 would be a reoccurring event. Too bad money is worth more than talent nowadays, but a guy can dream can't he? 115. I didn't watch any of this race, so I missed that. All I saw was Logano doing burnouts on the TV in the corner of the gym as I was walking in. What happened was that Kahne was lapping Wallace, who crowded him as if he didn't know he was there. Sure, Kahne could have used better judgment in that incident, but Wallace also chopped him to a degree. If I were toplace blame, I'd say that 70% of the blame falls on Kahne, with the other 30% on Wallace. And the odd thing about that is that Kahne usually isn't that aggressive around other cars, so it was an atypical move on his part. And also, aside from the start-and-parks, and you my see about five or six of them tomorrow, this race actually had very low attrition, especially for a race at Dover. In fact, every one of the 29 cars that finished (almost 75% of the field) completed at last 95% of the race distance, or 190 laps, and only four or five cars, aside from the S&P's, failed to finish the race. But next week, there may only be about 28-30 cars even try to run the full race, as it's a stand-alone race, with no Cup driver participation expected. I wouldn't be surprised if just 25 cars finished next week at Iowa. And actually, fewer cars on the track means a better chance at a freer flowing race, as long as there aren't many of what I call "junk" cars on the track, and that doesn't always specify wrecked cars or those that have had mechanical problems. 118. Or to be more charitable to Kahne, he refused to lift for a driver that was multiple laps down and was in the racing groove. "Sure, Kahne could have used better judgment in that incident, but Wallace also chopped him to a degree." I think the biggest knock on Kahne in this incident was that it was a little early in the race to be getting that frustrated with slow cars. I think it was just past the halfway point of the race when it happened. That said, Mike Wallace is a veteran driver, with more experience than anyone in the field except Morgan Shepherd. He should know better than anyone in the field that cars multiple laps down are just begging to be dumped when they take the racing line away from lead lap cars. It has nothing to do with being a small, underfunded team. It has to do with being a slow car many laps down. If Wallace was fighting for position or trying to avoid going a lap down he would be entitled to much more respect. As it was, he just cost his small, underfunded team some tens of thousands of dollars because he couldn't or wouldn't move over for a faster lead lap car. 120. cjs3872 posted: 06.01.2013 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jim Davis, I don't know how many laps down Wallace was at the time of the incident, but I don't think it was frustration on Kahne's part, especially if he had just caught him and tried an uncharacteristically risky move on him. Now if Kahne had been stuck behind him for a couple of laps, then I see your point, but I can't say one way or the other, but if he was behind Wallace for more than a lap, that I would put more of the blame on Wallace, but the way I see it, I would put 70% of the blame on Kasey for making such a risky move, especially just after the halfway point, if Wallace was holding him up, then I would put more of the blame on him. Interestingly, that was the only incident in the entire race caused by contact between cars, which is most unusual for Dover. One thing I don't understand though, was that they ran six laps of caution for a stalled car at the end of the pits. To me, that seemed a bit long, though had the race gone green from the restart on lap 129 to the end, that longer caution would have been a blessing to many drivers who otherwise would not have made it to the end without having to stop. But six laps was a little more than they should have had to run for a car stopped at the pit exit. 121. I'm not sure if Logano slowed his pace down in the final laps or if Vickers and Kenseth were catching him, but the final margin was about 0.4 seconds smaller than it had been for the final green flag run. "5 out of the top 6 have no business being in this series," You mean four of the top six drivers. Vickers may have been a full-time Cup driver in the past, but considering that he has no full-time Cup ride to go along with his full-time Nationwide, I consider him to be a Nationwide Series driver. Plus, he's competing for Nationwide points, which should end any argument that suggests he has no business being in this series. 125. And true, you can make a strong case for Vickers, stronger than any against him certainly. My point about him is that he's driving for a team that doesn't care about the Nationwide series or its drivers. And every time he's run in Cup this year, someone on the Fox crew is contractually obligated to point out how he's practically locked up the #55 ride full time next year. Ok, I'll revise my statement. 4 of the top 6 have no business running the series, one shouldn't have to if only Red Bull weren't pouty quitters because things didn't go their way, and one just has the bad luck of driving for the Roush Development Program 127. And with Petty going with younger drivers, I wonder what this might mean for his Cup team? Certainly Aric Almirola is safe, as he's currently a contender for a Chase spot, but I wonder what this would mean for Marcos Ambrose, who I think should go at season's end, and who would replace him next year should he be released. I still say that if Roush does reduce his involvement that Trevor Bayne would be a good fit in the #9 car, especially if Roush can't find sponsorship to revive his flagship #6 car, which I think he sees Bayne as the true heir to Mark Martin in. And if Bayne does end up in a full-time Cup ride, what would that mean for the Wood Brothers' #21 car? 130. He's not ready by any means, but Petty needs to make room for LaJoie and Truex, considering I only see him adding 1 team, not 2, in Nationwide next year. If that doesn't happen, the other options that I could see are Jeff Burton (who is a free agent next year, by the way), David Ragan, or, as cjs mentioned, perhaps Trevor Bayne. 131. ch posted: 06.02.2013 - 2:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor Changes: 30 - Worx Yard Tools 40 - Swisher e-Cigarette 44 - TriStar Motorsports 74 - Mike Harmon Racing 77 - Toyota / All Metal Fabricators 132. This would be a perfect opportunity to put Ryan Blaney in the car, especially considering he won in the Truck Series at Iowa last year, except he's racing at Texas this weekend. Actually, I think it would be a better idea to have Ryan Blaney run the car at Iowa, since the trucks are racing Friday night, and have someone else as a possible backup to Blaney in the case of injury or bad weather preventing him from getting to Iowa for the Nationwide race on Saturday night. 138.
