Whether it be rock-paper-scissors, rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock (had to put that one in there!), arm wrestling, or Russian roulette, you need to decide soon. I can stand one Marty Reid shouting "History!" at me, but two is too much. It soon becomes a battle between who can say "History!" the most times in once sentence. "Historically, you historically just historically made my historically historic day even more historic than before you made my already historic day even more historic! Historic for the historically historical win!" Catch my drift? 13. Kyle said after he lost the Michigan truck race to Aric Armirola that Michigan was definitely his worst track. Paul has 1 nationwide win in like 170 starts. And if Harvick can't win in The 33 this year I couldn't see Menard winning. Logano was the only guy I could see contending. I only saw the end but before the pit stop But I think he was in contention. Leffler suffered with the cup guys dominating when he was acing in the series so I was happy a nationwide regular won. 91. I was turned off by him due to all the media hype around him, but after last weekend when he went from 7th to 5th in the final two laps at Iowa (including passing Regan Smith in the process) and now this weekend when he was driving the wheels off of that Turner car and fought his way to a 2nd place finish, I'm pretty hooked. Consider me a believer in Kyle Larson. Not to mention his humble, yet disappointed interview after the race, saying that he really wanted to win for his guys and for Jason Leffler. Jason helped work on Larson's USAC car a few years back, and he reportedly told David Smith back in 2011 that he couldn't wait to see Larson drive stock cars. Larson hasn't disappointed, and he'll get that first Nationwide win sooner or later. 95. Anonymous posted: 06.15.2013 - 4:52 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) "but after last weekend when he went from 7th to 5th in the final two laps at Iowa" Correction: He went from 8th to 5th in the final 10 laps at Iowa. My mistake. Also, I recall one poster saying on the Iowa page that Regan Smith wouldn't win the Nationwide title because he's too conservative and is content with running 6th-10th all race long, also saying that "Someone is going to get hot down the stretch and his conservative efforts are going to bite him in the long run." Well, someone did get hot in this race and was chasing after him for about the final 10-15 laps for the lead. That driver being Kyle Larson. And what did Regan Smith do? He held onto the lead, didn't make any mistakes, used his competitor's weakness to his advantage (Larson was really tight coming off turn 2, which Regan used to his advantage by getting in the gas early with his good handling race car.), and the end result is Regan Smith in victory lane. I think we can put that hypothesis to bed. Regan reminds me a lot of Matt Kenseth during his years driving for Roush. He's content with settling for a top five or top ten finish if his car isn't good enough for anything better than that, but if he's got a shot at the win, he's gonna go for it and isn't likely to give it up once he has the lead. 99. We are talking about the same Regan Smith that held off Carl Edwards to win the Southern 500 in 2011, despite being on older tires, doing so by not cracking. If Regan can get through the three road course races, the first of which comes up next week at Road America, this championship battle may not be a battle at all, but rather a coronation. Sam Hornish, Jr. must make up significant ground on the road courses, which last year he seed capable of, or the engraver may as well be ready by the end of August. And as for Trevor Bayne, what I think has happened with him is that he's finally gained confidence he can race with the top drivers in the Nationwide Series, because he lost his confidence sometime in 2011, and it wasn't until just recently that he got it back. He's certainly not making too many friends at RCR, though in the case of the run-in with Paul Menard today, I think that was a case of Menard forcing the issue, which is equally uncharacteristic for him. But it was obvious watching the little of the race I watched that Bayne's car was significantly down on horsepower, mainly due to Roush's conservative engine set-ups, because there was a significant seed difference between the Ford of Joey Logano and the one Bayne was driving. Kyle Busch beat him to the line for fourth place, but I wonder what would happen if Bayne's car actually had horsepower, because he was holding up those behind him at the end of the race, which was why Menard made the risky move he made. 102. ch posted: 06.15.2013 - 5:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I think there may be an issue with the lap amount in this race. When he first got into the #78 FRR ride in 2009, he had a solid year given his equipment and only did better in 2010. Then in 2011, he gave FRR their first win and gave them several other great finishes since then only to get released when FRR jumped at the chance to hire Kurt Busch. Yesterday in the ARCA race it was open season on right front tires, including those that were less than 20 laps old, while today we had cars just up and puking out the insides of their wheel wells all over the track. 115. Either that or he may have run over debris from Austin Dillon's crash which forced an emergency stop. And I know there are those that don't like debris cautions, especially late in the race, but I think NASCAR should have thrown the caution when Dillon crashed, not just because of any debris his car may or may not have left on the track, but because of the safety hazard his car presented after it hit the wall. And also, the way things are going for Trevor Bayne and those around him in the points, that he might jump up to second in the not too distant future if things progress the way they've been (he could actually get to second by the time the series returns to Daytona if he keeps running the way he has), and then we'll see what happens to the #7 team, because they may then begin to hear footsteps, footsteps of a team that knows how to win titles. The two things that had to happen for Trevor to get back in any serious title contention have. He's running better, and those in front of him are having problems. There are just 34 points separating second (Sam Hornish, Jr.) through ninth (Kyle Larson) in the standings, and with three road course races and a restrictor plate race in the next nine events, things could get topsy-turvy for the championship, especially in that eight-way battle for second place. 118. 83andJoe posted: 06.15.2013 - 9:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Let's not forget that not only did they not throw the caution for Dillon hitting the wall, but after the first debris caution (when Allgaier's car decided it would be fun to cough up a brake duct and crush panel) Mike Bliss spun off of turn two down onto the apron, completely spinning around, but no caution was called... 119. In addition, the Truck Series is headed to Eldora and Canada for the first time. Put simply, the June through August stretch of races for Nationwide and Trucks is filled with parity and will yield some surprises. 120. I am really pumped for next week (in Nationwide and Cup; they both should be good races) 121. However, Nationwide and Truck are fair game. The road-course races between the top 3 series' during summer are in my personal top 3 times of the Nascar season along with Daytona Speedweeks and the Memorial Day weekend trifecta. 122. cjs3872 posted: 06.15.2013 - 10:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 83andJoe, if Bliss spun down the track and ended up on the apron, if he quickly got going, there would be no need to throw the caution, as his car did not present a danger. But Dillon was on the top of the track and had to wait to come down so he could come into the pits, so his car presented a real danger, not to mention whatever debris may have been dropped as a result of Dillon's contact with the wall. That's the difference between those two incidents. 123. That means that a single caution period would take up a substantial percentage of the race distance. For instance, a 3-lap caution would take up 6% of the entire race distance. That would be the equivalent of a seven or eight-lap caution period in this race, or an 18-lap caution period at a Nationwide race at Bristol, which is usually 300 lap long. Just think about that for a moment. A caution period that lasts three laps is the equivalent of a 12-15 lap caution at most Nationwide races on tracks one mile or less in length, or even at the races at the 1.5 mile tracks, because a three-lap caution at Road America is the equivalent of a 12-lap caution at a place like Charlotte or Texas, where the races are 200 laps long, or a 15-lap caution at Iowa, where the race is 250 laps long. That puts the length of a caution period at Road America into perspective. That's why it's so hard for the races at Road America to get a rhythm, because of how much of a race is taken by a single caution period. Remember that just one lap completed constitutes 2% of the entire race distance, so a caution period will eat up about 6-8% of the entire race distance on just one caution period of three or four laps. 127.
