After all, Trevor's earning points in the Nationwide Series, and his Cup team's only running 12 races this season. Could Roush be trying to get a jump on next season and having Chris Buescher qualify for his race? If not, this makes no sense to me. Now I know Bayne's not in contention for the title, but I wonder who made that decision? 12. There's also JTG, which he's run well for so far (and remember, they're talking to RCR about a technical deal, so if he that happened and if he went there, they'd probably be capable of a lot more). So I think he'll be okay as far as getting some type of full time ride. If Ryan Truex and Corey Lajoie are your two stars of the future, you should give them more seat time. But once again, this is probably sponsor induced. Stanley knows that they only have two legitimate shots a year at winning with Ambrose, so they decided to add this NNS race just to add another chance. It's the same thing they did by sending Ambrose to Montreal that one year (2011, I guess). 107. I know Penske's been loyal to Hornish, but if he had to choose between the two, I think he'd go with Allmendinger because he's willing to take educated chances at gaining positions and knows how to run up front in a Cup race. 108. Brad Keselowski won the driver's championship and another team won the owner's championship, and as a result, Penske had to share the head table with the team that won the owner's championship (a Joe Gibbs Racing car, I believe), and he doesn't want to have to do that again. That's why Penske's trying so hard for the owner's title, which is why we might not see Ryan Blaney in that #22 car the rest of the season, unless the scheduled race date at Kentucky is rained out. 114. That car isn't racing for points as this was their first attempt all season, they're racing for a win. If I had to choose between putting Ambrose in the car at Mid-Ohio versus putting Truex or LaJoie, I'd go with the 4-time Nationwide road course winner. Also, I don't think Stanley Tools would exactly be jumping for joy if they were asked to sponsor Truex or LaJoie for a road course race. Let those two run some short tracks and intermediate tracks instead to gain experience. 115. murb posted: 08.17.2013 - 4:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "murb, I think Hornish will move up to Cup, and Allmendinger will get the #12 Nationwide ride for a year (I think Ryan Blaney needs one more year of seasoning. And also, you might be right about Penske being more loyal to Allmendinger than to Hornish, but I still think that, with Hornish having run so well in Nationwide the past two years, compared to A.J.'s having run very few races over the last year, there's no question that Hornish is going to get Penske's third car next year. I mentioned that Cowboy Hat (I'm glad that's catching on) was in the top 5 earlier after I looked at the leaderboard on NASCAR.com. I thought it might have been a legit good run because the drivers he was around were all frontrunners but I guess some of them were just that much faster than him even when he was on a different cycle. He ended up outside the top 20, so I am sure he really did nothing to prove those who doubt his decision wrong. I'm impressed with Kyle Larson coming back from multiple laps down to finish in the top 15 despite not having much road course experience and a car that looked like it was literally being held together by duct tape, he's really making a believer out of me. I'm not sure why exactly he turned Papis (who ran a great race) at the end though. I am happy that Allmendinger won another Nationwide road course race, he may be challenging Ambrose as NASCAR's king of the road. The only negative about this is that it boosts the chances of the Penske Cupmobile winning the owner's championship, though the #54 really isn't much better. Speaking of Ambrose, I have no problem at all with him running this race. This is his 6th Nationwide race since he went full time Cup racing in 2009, and that's how it should be done. If a driver wants to run a Nationwide race every now and then, I am perfectly fine with that. It's when a driver runs almost all of the companion events or splits a ride with another Cup driver that bothers me. 264. cjs3872 posted: 08.17.2013 - 6:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well, it looks like I was wrong about it not being a 5-way battle for the championship, because that's exactly what it is. I thought that the two road course races would knock out someone, or let someone back in, due to their sheer unpredictability. But instead, the to fie solidified themselves, though the order changed, there's still just 18 points separating first through fifth. What I think is going to happen now is that those top five drivers in the championship are just going to race each other and not worry about trying to win races, which they're not going to be able to do anyway, with the possible exception of Kentucky, because they can't chance mixing it up with the Cup drivers, who have nothing to lose. And if I'm right, there's a 60% chance that the Nationwide Series champion will win the championship without winning a race. In fact, there's still a real good chance that Austin Dillon, Elliott Sadler and Brian Vickers could finish 1-2-3, with none of them winning this year. And if I prove to be right, that means that only three championship-eligible drivers, Sam Hornish, Jr., Trevor Bayne, and Regan Smith, who did it twice, will have won a race this season. 265. Before that, he had climbed up to fourth, but he wound up 14th. Actually, I thought he had run out of fuel, but he got knocked off the track. And DB1995, Trevor Bayne more than likely caused that final caution by knocking Kenny Habul off the track. His was the car directly behind Habul when that happened, and he was also one of those about to be lapped by Allmendinger when that incident happened. And there are a number of posters that have said that Nelson Piquet, Jr. got what he deserved when he ran out of fuel on the GWC. Actually, that might have been the best thing that happened to him all day, because the fact that he stopped not far from the edge of the track also kept him from immediately have to answer to the number of drivers who were undoubtedly upset with him. Many drivers, including Kyle Larson, Regan Smith, Trevor Bayne, Austin Dillon, Ron Fellows, and a few others were all on the wrong end of incidents started by Piquet, who looked like Jacques Villeneuve with all the mayhem he caused out there today. 271. 18fan posted: 08.17.2013 - 6:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Piquet should be listed as out of fuel. 272. If you succeeded at a certain type of track in the regular season, then the chances are that you will in the Chase as well if your team did their homework and you have the right motivation. 4 road courses sounds like a good number. I saw that article he wrote about that. I like him but his hypothetical schedule was HORRIBLE! He had 18/25 races as companion races with cup events. That's the last thing the series needs. They need to get away from the cup tracks like Charlotte, Chicagoland, Pocono, Homestead, etc., and go back to places like Richmond, Gateway, Nashville, Memphis, Mansfield, Milwaukee, IRP, South Boston, etc. Same thing for the Nationwide series. I also think they should take Daytona and Talladega off the truck and Nationwide schedule. They tear up too much equipment and as with Michael Annett and all the fans at Daytona this year it's too dangerous for those series to race at superspeedways. Ideally the trucks with the exception of a couple road courses should not go to any track over 1 mile in length, expept Rockingham which is technically 1.1 miles, and should only run in conjunction with the cup series 3-5 times in a 25 race season. 287. 83andJoe posted: 08.17.2013 - 11:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) >go back to places like >Richmond Absolutely >Gateway, Nashville, Memphis Not unless these tracks have a change in ownership. Not sure if the car actually lost its brakes, or if they decided that they couldn't safely race on used tires any longer and they retired from the race in order to prevent possible damage to the car. 299. cjs3872 posted: 08.18.2013 - 4:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @277, probably not until 2014, because every race but one the rest of the way is a companion race with the Cup Series, and I do expect Cup drivers in the 22 and 54 cars at Kentucky, so I think the championship-eligible drivers get shut out the rest of the way, and if one does manage to win a race, it won't be one of the true contenders because of what's at stake for them. I think they'll be racing each other and not worrying about winning any races. That's one thing people tend to overlook about Brian Vickers' win at New Hampshire in the Cup race. He's not eligible for points in the Cup Series, and his team is running different drivers, so they had nothing to lose by gambling the way they did. But those in the top five in the points can't take the risks they would need to take in order to win a race, especially with Cup drivers in the field, so what they figure to do is to just try to go for third, fourth, fifth, and just be the highest finishing of the title contenders, and the driver that does that the most will be the NNS champion this year, quite possibly without winning any races. 300. I don't really remember the "non-American" drivers running too much on road courses. After the excitement the Rolex Kansas race produced, maybe the Cup Series should use the Chase race there under the road course layout. It really would make the Chase more exciting and would really shake up the standings. 308. Owen Kelly in #54 was in front of Sam Hornish, Jr. in #12 coming to the white flag. Both were racing hard for 3rd place, but suddenly, there was a shot at #30 of Nelson Piquet, Jr. out of the racetrack and when the cameras went back to the leaders, Owen Kelly ended in the sand and finished the race 23rd. Maybe it was a normal incident, but some people claim that Sam Hornish, Jr. intentionally wrecked Owen Kelly, because the #22 car of A.J. Allmendinger, his teammate, was leading the race and Roger Penske needed maximum points for his "very important" Owners' Championship. And as we know, the #54 car with Kyle Busch was the only serious contender for them that year. And this incident is sometimes used as an excuse, why Kyle Busch "intentionally" wrecked Brad Keselowski at Kansas. Just a payback. 323.
