Kyle can retire with 400 minor league wins and 150 minor league poles, he will never ever pass Junior Johnson on the list that actually matters, and will retire with the same number of Cup titles as Kevin Conway 14. I don't think very many people would have much of a problem with Kyle or any of the other elite Cup drivers running these races if, like the old days, it was in cars they owned, or driving for another non-Cup organization (an example here is Harry Gant driving for Ed Whitaker). Remember that Kyle went 0-for he season in both the Truck and Nationwide Series last year, but this year, he's back to winning races by the bushel because he's running again for Gibbs this year. However, it might have been part of his plan to start his own team last year by being the primary driver, just to see what the team's potential could be, and then hand the keys to someone else when he returned to Gibbs' NNS effort in 2013. And if that was the case, he succeeded on all grounds, because he's again driving for Gibbs, while his own team is also running competitively with Parker Kligerman. I think Brad Keselowski has ideas on doing the same thing eventually in the Nationwide Series, as his Truck team is among the most competitive out there, and I think he might start a NNS team of his own in the future. The thing I find interesting is that there are only five full-time Cup drivers in this race, and Joe Nemechek and J.J. Yeley are two of them, so if something happens to Kyle Busch, a championship-eligible driver could very well win this one and prove me wrong. Aside from Busch, the only Cup drivers in good cars are both in the eighth row for this one, Brad Keselowski and Kasey Kahne, the two most recent spring race winners in the Cup Series at Bristol. 18. Jarrett88fan posted: 08.23.2013 - 6:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) It is sad commentary on the state of the sport when it seems the only thing stopping Jimmie Johnson from winning a 6th Cup is the potential birth of his child around the Chicago race weekend, IF he misses the race. With as much natural talent Kyle Busch has, his focus should be on dethroning the #48 express the way Keselowski and company did last year. 19. 83andJoe posted: 08.23.2013 - 7:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If the sane system of provisionals was used instead of the very silly 30-locked-in were used, this is how the lineup would have been (bearing in mind the owner points in that case would look very different yadda yadda): Assuming 34 on time: Last to qualify: #91 Chase Miller Provisionals: 01, 4, 70, 23, 24, 74, 00 DNQ: 46, 52, 86, 17, 15, 90, 89 IN: #00 OUT: #46 20. His car just got loose underneath Scott, carrying both cars up the track. In the end, it probably didn't cost Scott more than possibly one position, because he was dropping back anyway. But this was not Bristol's finest our, as only two drivers led the race, the two Kyles, Busch and Larson, and to nobody's great surprise, Busch and Brad Keselowski were in their own zip code, finishing nearly half a lap ahead of anyone else, and even Keselowski conceded in those final few laps because he knew he couldn't catch Kyle Busch. But I'll say it again. If they don't have two even lines, then passing won't occur because the outside is still about 1-2 MPH better due to the momentum, and I think we'll see more of the same thing tomorrow night, though I highly doubt we'll see one driver jut blitz the field like this. After all, only nine cars finished on the lead lap and only two cars finished even ne lap behind, Elliott Sadler and Michael Annett. 12th place on back were finished at least two laps behind, such was the dominance of Kyle Busch, combined with the lack of cautions (four) in this race. 138. The #10 ran the full distance in this race because Cole Whitt had sponsorship from Gold Bond, and so the #91 car was added to serve as the start-and-park entry, with Chase Miller behind the wheel. But aside from those two errors, you're right about TriStar Motorsports having a great night as all four full-time cars not only finished the race, but they all finished inside the top 20. If it were up to me, the four drivers that ran the full race for TriStar would be the full-time drivers every week, with the #91 car serving as a part-time start-and-park entry just for additional funding. Jeff Green and Mike Bliss are both champion drivers and bring a ton of experience to the fold (not to mention that both veterans can still go on the race track), Cole Whitt is a very talented young driver who is starting to become the team's #1 driver, and Chad Hackenbracht is a sleeper pick with the potential to be a successful NASCAR driver if given a chance. Very good driver lineup if I do say so myself. Their results from this race proved that all four drivers can run well for the independent multi-car team. 163. Both drivers may be teammates, but it was evident that Larson was willing to do anything short of wrecking Allgaier for 4th place, and Allgaier had the same mindset in order to keep his rookie teammate behind him. Both drivers are gonna be fun to watch once they reach Sprint Cup and race those greater horsepower race cars. And considering which rides are still available and how the current "silly season" has turned out, it wouldn't surprise me if both drivers have full-time Cup rides next season. Also, I just think it's a shame that Johanna Long hasn't driven/isn't allowed to drive the #70 car when ML Motorsports isn't fielding the car. She needs all the Nationwide experience she can get considering both her age and lack of full-time experience in NASCAR, and sitting out on weekends when the car isn't fielded by her team just seems counter-productive. 166. Employees have to be fairly compensated, bills have to be paid, tires ain't cheap, and hotel bills are very real. Plus, most of those smaller teams with primary sponsors are paid very little by their respective sponsorships, and so sometimes adding a start-and-park entry to the foray is necessary in order to provide additional revenue to these shoestring budget teams. 167. I can't say for sure, but just by looking at Kyle's Nationwide exploits, he seems to be in a position there that makes winning in NASCAR Thunder 2005 look incredibly difficult by comparison! And all so he can more easily justify choking away all those potentially dominant wins he could have had in the Cup series. What was it, 12 of the last 15 races he led the most laps in he's lost? Heh, well, he deserves it. Oh well, at least him winning yet another NNS race probably means he didn't complain about something. Hahaha, who am I kidding? Kyle Busch is Kyle Busch, which seems to mean that he is permanently stuck in "miserably entitled spoiled brat" mode, even at his very, ahem, "best". I'm using the term "best" as loosely as I can because I believe he can do much better, on track and off. But he's Kyle Busch, so he won't. He'll just keep bullying on the lower tier guys to make up for the fact that he has as much strength and integrity as a blade of grass. Actually, less so, because a blade of grass grass will eventually pick itself back up and keep growing after it's been trampled on. You just look at Kyle Busch the wrong way and he collapses faster than a house of cards in a hurricane, and then he finds something other than the stink of his own failure to complain about so he doesn't have to blame himself for all of his many ego-driven mistakes. 173. While finishing 14th and 16th might not see like much to someone looking on the outside, those finishes for those particular cars, as I mentioned in post #142, were stunning, though you wouldn't know from the broadcast, because I don't think either driver was ever mentioned. Of course, the #14 car was driven by 2000 series champion Jeff Green, who always runs well at Bristol (his first Cup pole came there in 2001), which is his home track, and as I've been saying on this board for two years, Cole Whitt is very underestimated as a driver, and is one I think can win, given the right situation, and his 14th place finish in the #10 car, which is usually a backmarker or start-and-park, is just another example of that. Now granted, each of those cars were multiple laps down, but that has more to do with Kyle Busch's dominance and the lack of caution flags than it does Whitt's and Green's performances. If you get a lack of cautions at Bristol, as was evidenced in both the Truck and Nationwide races, top ten quality cars/trucks are going to get lapped, and there were only nine cars on the lead lap at the end of this one, and only two others finished even one lap down, meaning 12th on back were at least two laps down. 175.
