Paul posted: 09.28.2013 - 1:33 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Should Joey Logano win this race, he would become the first driver to ever win four consecutive Dover races in one NASCAR series. He's already the only driver to win three straight Busch/Nationwide races at Dover, and is one of four drivers to win three straight Dover races in a NASCAR series. David Pearson (fall '72-fall '73), Rusty Wallace (fall '93-fall '94), and Jeff Gordon (fall '95-fall '96) are the only other drivers to do so. Of course, all of those wins came in Cup. Great 6th place qualifying effort from Mike Bliss. TriStar Motorsports has really stepped it up this year, both in terms of qualifying and finishing, and this is a great start to the weekend for that team. Brad Teague was over a full second slower than the 38th place car in qualifying. For his sake, as well as his competitors' sake, I hope he doesn't look like an old fool out there today and becomes a rolling chicane for the other cars. I'm surprised that TriStar, RWR, or TMG didn't roll off a backup car in order to fill out the field for this race. Seems like a wasted opportunity to collect some extra cash if you ask me. 5. 83andJoe posted: 09.28.2013 - 1:35 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) >I'm surprised that TriStar, RWR, or TMG didn't roll off a backup car in order to fill out the field for this race. ESPN sucks, wasting no time in hyping the "epic battle" between Joey Logano and Kyle Busch at the Nationwide level, which nobody outside the ESPN booth cares about and which actually detracts from the series, not enhances it. I hit the Mute button so I don't know if they've hyped the "epic battle" for the nobody-gives-a-shit NNS owners' championship yet. 3. That resulted in Joey Logano winning by nearly two-thirds of a lap, and that only three other cars finished on the same lap, two of which (Harvick and Vickers) were directly in front of him and he could have lapped those easily if he really wanted (or needed) to. In those terms, this was an old school race, because races at Dover used to frequently have only two or three cars on the same lap, or even have a car winning on it's own lap. And while I'm not usually a fan of some of the historical notes ESPN puts out, I think that the fact that Joey Logano became the first driver, regardless of the series, to win four times in a row at Dover is really something he can hold his head high about. The reason that's such an achievement has more to do with the difficulty of the track that it does the competition. Let's also not forget that Dover is the site of the worst crash of Logano's career, when he went end-over-end about eight times in turn three early in the fall Cup race in about 2010. And Logano's just the sixth driver in series history ever to win at any track four consecutive times, and the other names he joined are a "who's who" in series history. Names such as Jack Ingram and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. are also on that list. And so while I'm usually not a fan of the "historical" notes passed on by ESPN regarding the lower series, I think this one deserves a special note because of the difficulty of the track that it was achieved at. 94. The car was too low on both front sides. Expect a points penalty to be announced early next week.(9-28-2013) UPDATE: Penalties have been levied to the #22 NASCAR Nationwide Series team as a result of rules violations committed last Saturday at Dover International Speedway. During post-race inspection Sept. 28, theE #22 car was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to the NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20-A of the NASCAR rule book, or has been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); and 20A-12.8.1(B) (the car failed to meet the minimum front car heights) of the 2013 rule book. As a result of this violation, crew chief Jeremy Bullins has been fined $10,000 and owner Roger Penske has been docked with the loss of six championship series car owner points. AND "The Penske Racing #22 Ford Mustang had a spring retaining screw back out during Saturdays Nationwide Series race, which resulted in the cars front end being too low by 1/16 of an inch when presented for post-race inspection. The problem is being addressed internally to prevent it from happening again and the team is not planning to appeal the penalty." 106.
