Sky Warrior posted: 02.21.2014 - 4:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't have a problem with people like Jr, David Ragan, or Danica running this race, because they don't run this series like its their full-time job. It is too bad that some guys have to DNQ, but that's what happens, especially at Daytona. Overall, I like the lineup for this race only. As far as the rest of the season goes, could use a lot less Kenseth, Harvick, Busch, and Keselowski, but nothing to really do about that except complain and boycott the sponsors The Tri-Star guys had some very solid qualifying runs. Our usual winner won't be running, but Bobby Gerhart will be. Top 15 overall is pretty surprising, gives me hope that we could get an upset winner which would be a great way to start off the Cup Lite series 7. Additional props to Jamie Dick, Johnny Sauter (driving for what appears to be a brand new team), Harrison Rhodes, and Bobby Gerhart for very impressive runs! On another note, it's unfortunate that names such as David Ragan and Chris Buescher had to miss the race, as well as both Vision Racing entries, both Martins Motorsports entries, and 2 of the 3 Carl Long cars. 8. numbah10hatah posted: 02.21.2014 - 5:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Daniel, I'm going to steal your fastest 40 thing. Last year was very painful to watch seeing 95% of the races being won by the exact same two teams over and over again, and with Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski/Joey Logano running a majority of the races again, I don't personally think this year will be much of an improvement...if at all. I'll watch the plate races, the stand-alone races, and maybe a few other races like Bristol or Darlington, but otherwise I'll probably give most of the Nationwide races a skip and just watch the highlights afterwards. Of course, knowing my luck, this will end up being a great year for the Nationwide series and the #54 and the #22 will barely win any races at all :D 18. anonymous posted: 02.21.2014 - 8:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "I'll watch the plate races, the stand-alone races, and maybe a few other races like Bristol or Darlington" Same goes for me 19. numbah10hatah posted: 02.21.2014 - 9:40 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) Since Kwasniewski isn't 21 yet, he technically didn't get the Coors Light Pole. Good job for Regan Smith, I'm happy to see that he was able to fend off the cup regulars and win. I am really hoping that the 500 will be great, and I think it will based on the racing we saw in the Unlimited and the Duels. I thought that the new noses in the truck series were the problem, but nationwide cars have not changed since last year as far as I know, and the same problem occurred. What do those two occasions each have in common? Trevor Bayne was the second car on the outside both times, and as we know, there may be nobody better at pushing another car to the front car than Bayne, as that is how he won the Daytona 500 a few years ago. And although flat-out pushing another car was outlawed, the fact that Trevor seemed to be able to knock whatever car he was behind forward doesn't seem to have changed at all. (And note that when he pushed Brad to he front, he started to drop back because he had nobody of equal pushing ability to push him.) Nice to see Regan Smith win after he lost his shot at winning this race last year due to the big wreck that happned on the last lap of that one. Hopefully he can win the championship this year and get a shot in a competitive Cup car for 2015. 216. murb posted: 02.22.2014 - 8:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Now the tandems have been outlawed, the pack is back, and...see above the demands that the tandems be brought back so we can see real racing." I'm pretty sure the "demand for tandems" in this race that you are referring to has more to do with us wanting to see the drivers stick it to Nascar than actually wanting to see the tandem draft. At least for me. Them banning pushing basically resulted in the first 90% of this race being mediocre. So that's why I wanted to see those guys just say "the hell with it" and start pushing each other, just as a middle finger to Nascar for putting everyone in a box. And I especially wanted to see it after they penalized Buescher, but then didn't penalize others (Kyle Busch, and I think Chase Elliott was the other) who were way more blatant with the pushing than Buescher was. 217. Except for the last few laps of a race, there should never be any blocking, and a rule doing away with blocking would be in effect until the last 5-10 laps of the race, when it's "every man for himself". Most of the huge wrecks that are caused by driver error are caused by just one thing, and that's blocking. Remember the potentially devastating situations late in the 1997 and '99 Daytona 500s? Those were also caused by blocking, but disaster was averted because the drivers, all champions in those particular instances, knew what they were doing, far more than any NASCAR official could ever know about that kind of situation. I think they should do away with the OB line, let the drivers draft any way they choose to, and do away with blocking. And I want to add to the whole thing about Keselowski and Bayne at the end of the race today that I brought up in an earlier comment. Another reason Keselowski should have lined up on the outside was that he's a Ford driver, as is Bayne, and if he had, Bayne would have pushed a fellow Ford driver to victory, and by not lining up on the outside, he basically cost himself the race. I think what happened there is telling for two reasons. It tells me that there's more friction between the Penske and Roush organizations than I thought there was (and I thought there was quite a bit last year), and it also tells me that it might have been a blessing in disguise for Bayne to have been passed over at Penske Racing, because I don't think Bayne and Keselowski would ever have gotten along. The fact that Brad decided to team up with someone like Kyle Busch, who he doesn't like AND drives a Toyota, instead of a fellow Ford driver tells me that there's something going on in the Ford camp, not just between the top two organizations, but also the drivers, and I don't think this is over between Penske and Roush. Not by a long shot. 221. 18fan posted: 02.22.2014 - 10:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think Brad lined up with because of some "bad blood" between Roush and Penske. The inside line had been faster the entire race and he felt that he would be able to win the race from the bottom. I think you are reading too much into his decision. 222. cjs3872 posted: 02.22.2014 - 11:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) But what doesn't make sense, 18fan, is that he had gotten the lead because of how Trevor Bayne was bumping him and bumping him when they were nose-to-tail on the outside. You're right about the inside line being superior, which makes what Keselowski and Bayne did that much more remarkable, and Keselowski ended up getting beat the same way he got the lead, with Bayne pushing the lead car on the outside just far enough ahead of him to get him beat. I think what happened in this race may have reinforced the fact that Bayne might well be the best pusher at the plate tracks today. He's not that great a leader on the plate tracks, but he's probably the one you want pushing you in a late-race situation. There's a reason Jeff Gordon wanted to have Bayne as a drafting partner in the qualifying race a few years ago. If Bayne has the car, he'll push you to the front. He almost pushed Robby Gordon into victory lane at Talladega a few years ago by how he pushed him in that race. The rivalry between Penske and Roush had nothing to do with the decision not to go on the outside for the restart, but Bayne knew that if Keselowski had chosen the outside for that final restart, that he would have pushed his fellow Ford driver to victory. 223. 23andJoe posted: 02.23.2014 - 4:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #31 crew chief: Pat Tryson 224. startandparkfan posted: 02.23.2014 - 8:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Nice to see Regan Smith win after he lost his shot at winning this race last year due to the big wreck that happned on the last lap of that one. In between his 2nd and 3rd NNS wins, he also won a couple of Cup races, his first came at Kansas in '04 with Nemechek, and he won again at Michigan in 2009 with Vickers. 234. 23andJoe posted: 04.11.2014 - 11:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #01 crew chief: Dave Fuge 235.
