The Long Shot posted: 04.11.2014 - 10:37 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Like I said last week, Elliott is right up there with Larson when it comes to Cup Series prospects. I do believe Larson is more talented, but it's hard to say anything negative about Elliott's ability after these past 2 weeks. And yeah, a rivalry between these two would be fun to watch, especially if the two end up becoming teammates at Hendrick. Both are future Cup stars. Oh, and Kasey Kahne is gone from Hendrick after the year. I guarantee it. It's not the right decision to make, as I believe that Elliott still needs more seasoning, but after two seriously impressive wins against a field chock-full of Cup regulars (and with Kahne having such a disappointing season), there is no way in hell that Hendrick keeps this kid in the minor leagues for another year. Look for Chase to move to the #5 (renumbered to #94, or #9 if RPM relinquishes the number), and for Kyle Larson to be Jeff Gordon's successor in the #24 when Jeff retires (which may not be as soon as I thought it would be; after watching the Mark Martin-like resurgence that he's had this year, I'd say he has at least 3 more years left in him). 90. I'm gonna hold off on the "Larson will join Hendrick one day" thing though, just because I really do believe that this Ganassi team is turning the corner. Larson could be for Ganassi what Jeff Gordon was for Hendrick in the early 90s. He could be the key piece that will turn a second-tier operation into a first-tier, championship contending team. It's possible that he may go to Hendrick some day, but look at how he's been running with Ganassi in just his rookie year. There will be no reason for him to go to Hendrick if he and the 42 team keep progressing at the rate they are now. The only way I see Larson going to Hendrick (or elsewhere) is if Chip Ganassi himself screws it all up, and that is definitely possible given his track record. But for now, I think Larson and the 42 team have good potential together. I see them sticking together for at least four or five more years, and in that time, I think Larson can easily propel himself into a Cup championship contender. 92. DB1995 posted: 04.11.2014 - 11:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Berryhill owes Larson one, and a short track in Richmond is the perfect place for it. No reason for him to hit him 3 times then spin him out, but since Larson is everyones favorite now this has all basically went unnoticed, It has already essentially never happened. Larson was far away from the car in front of and behind him, he had plenty of time to patiently drive around him, but no lets just drive through him like a Dick, great job. 93. joey2448 posted: 04.11.2014 - 11:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) By the way, just as a sidenote, there was a crash on the final lap. Brendan Gaughan got turned by someone and crashed into the inside frontstretch wall off of turn 4, but didn't quite make it to the line to complete the lap. He sure didn't look happy afterwards. I honestly think Chase won't be in Cup until 2016. Kahne will probably get another year to prove his mettle in the 5 car before Rick decides to put Elliott in a Cup car. Or it could be the 24 car. Junior's not leaving because of his marketability and popularity, Jimmie's not leaving because he's Jimmie, and Jeff Gordon will ride out the rest of his career in his ride. Someone tell me, why will Larson be going to Hendrick Motorsports in the future? I remember it being brought up one time, but how would Ganassi let him get away? (other than the fact that he's an idiot sometimes) 94. Kyle Larson has the capabilities of making the 42 car into a cup contender before his contract is up. Remember the 42 car in the past did have chances to win on ovals, but didn't have the right driver. Last year, Chip was starting to show signs of turning the corner. The problem with the 42 last year was Montoya. Kyle Larson's contract is up after the 2017, but Hendrick does have a history of letting drivers that produce to race at Hendrick as long as they want. While Jeff in the past doesn't want to race full time after 45, it is possible that he could change his mind. 97. If you had to choose between a solid organization with a bit of a shaky track record and an organization with multiple Cup championships on their resume, with the likely opportunity to succeed one of the best drivers in NASCAR history coming with the latter, would you even seriously consider Option A, even if you had success with that team? murb does make a good point with his Gordon analogy, though, and it is entirely possible that Larson stays with Ganassi if he has enough success with them. With Dylan Kwasniewski coming up through the ranks en route to a Ganassi Cup ride in the near future, though, I don't consider it likely. That's just my opinion, though, and I could be completely wrong about all this. And about the outrage concerning Larson wrecking Berryhill, I didn't see the actual wreck, so I can't explicitly comment about it, but if I remember correctly, there was a certain future 7-time champ who had controversial incidents like this when he was younger (and, well, when he was older as well), and he ended up being pretty popular by the end of his career. 100. Look, I like Earnhardt as much as anybody on here (except maybe DSFF), but we need to stop putting him and his actions on an imaginary pedestal. Face it: Earnhardt was just as much of a douchebag and an asshole when he was young as Larson is now. Both are/were aggressive drivers that held no reservations about wrecking drivers that pissed them off. Maybe Larson really was a jackass tonight, but saying that Dale Sr. was any less of one at this age is ridiculous. 102. murb posted: 04.12.2014 - 12:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "With Dylan Kwasniewski coming up through the ranks en route to a Ganassi Cup ride in the near future, though, I don't consider it likely." I actually think it was kind of a smart move for Ganassi to pick up Kwasniewski. It's not that I think Kwasniewski is great or anything (but given his K&N record I think he can be a good driver one day). The thing I see is that it seems Ganassi is modeling his new team around Penske's current mold. I think Penske's plan when he hired Joey Logano was to have another young guy there to push Brad Keselowski a little further. And it seems to have worked (even though Brad ran shitty last year). So I think we may see that situation play out once Kwasniewski gets to Cup. He will be Larson's wingman type guy, and he will be another young guy that will bring some energy into the fold. Chances are, it will probably help both Larson and Kwasniewski in the long run. I do hope they keep Jamie McMurray around as a veteran figure though, at least for a couple more years. I would prefer them start a third team for Kwasniewski (since he has sponsorship) instead of just canning McMurray. 103. murb posted: 04.12.2014 - 12:24 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) The Larson incident with Berryhill definitely could have been avoided, but I'll give Larson a one time pass since he had been driving his ASS off for about 25 laps (at Darlington, mind you) trying not to wreck because of his damage. And even with his damage, he was still capable of getting a top five finish. So I can understand his frustration with being held up by a lapped car. And the Logano situation at Dover a couple years ago was a lot different. He was just dominating that race, completely uncontested, when he just punted Tim Schendel (I think that's who it was) for no reason. 104. I must admit, I am feeling a bit star-studered seeing these Not-Full-Time-Cup-Guys/First-year-in-cup guys winning Nationwide races. Larson AND Elliot may both have what it takes to bring some real neat stuff when they become full-time Cup drivers. 105. It certainly bothered me that Larson did that. His dump for the win at the battle of the beach last year in the late models was an extremely dirty move, and this was a situation where he should know better than to intentionally dump a lapped car simply because he got held up and pressured into making a mistake. He was displacing blame for their contact off the corner. It also shows a lack of regard for underfunded competitors, as well, which is a shame. -------------------------- We all expected Chase Elliott to be pretty good, but he's certainly exceeded my expectations. I didn't think he'd be this good this quickly. It's extremely impressive to say the least. I also want to note several drivers' good runs. Landon Cassill got a LOT out of that Johnny Davis 01 car with a solid qualifying effort and even running inside the top 10 until slow pit stops had him coming from behind. He drove from around 17th to 12th after the round of 4 tire stops, and then on the final caution, elected to take 2 tires but was only able to get 2 spots on pit road out of it. His two tires resulted in a couple of lost spots, but it was worth the call, as he ended up 12th. Also, JJ Yeley has been doing an INCREDIBLE job for that Gregg Mixon team which I believe has Carl Long as their competition director. Tonight was also a solid run for Mike Wallace, but Yeley's been doing this just about every single week. Truly underrated driving by him. Also, nice top 15 finish for the Key Motorsports 40 driven by Josh Wise. 109. 23andJoe posted: 04.12.2014 - 3:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #31 sponsor: Rockstar/AccuDoc Solutions #39 sponsor: Damn Good Jerky 110. They come every week now with those same yellow cars from Penske and Yeley has been running great, as has Mike Wallace, but it really shows something is there. Id like to see Carl Long get a race in one of those cars seeing as he's been working hard on those machines. 111. It was Tim Bainey, Jr. who fell a victim, not Schendel or anyone else. If I'm not mistaken last time Busch/Nationwide regular won back-to-back races was in 2004, when Kyle Busch won in IRP and Michigan. Though it's not as great trivia fact as that, mentioned by Chad's Hair Plugs a couple of posts above. 115. Look at field and to me only Ty Dillon (the less evil one) and Brian Scott are legitimate threats to get their first win; possibly Ryan Reed also. Dylan Kwasniewsi is really overrated, and Chris Buescher just looks inept. I'd like to see Joey Gase or Tanner Berryhill in victory lane, but they're both a few years away, and Jeremy Clements has really regressed in his own equipment 122. Ken posted: 04.13.2014 - 12:09 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Chris Buescher has shown more promise than Ryan Reed this season, Chris has speed where Ryan doesn't. Chris reminds me more of a Stenhouse though I'm sure he'll wreck alot for it as he learns, while Ryan seems too conservative and getting Pastrana like results. That being said, I don't think either will win this year. Ty will probably luck into a win eventually, and Scott always has a race or two where he competes for the victory. But RCR doesn't have the speed JR Motorsports has right now. 123. Anonymous posted: 04.13.2014 - 12:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) JR Motorsports looks sharp right now.
