BMan, unless somebody experienced, like Regan Smith, is the Natiownide champ, I'll never watch the series again. It will pain me if there's a rookie champ, which will leave me with no choice but to believe the series is a dumbed down joke or even was fixed this year. My Nationwide driver's scheduled to move up to the Cup next year and his sponsor, Advocare will follow him. This will be the return of the 6 to the Cup. I'm excited about this and really hope his health holds to allow this to happen. Why do you find it so hard to believe that a rookie could win the Nationwide championship? Chase Elliott is driving one of the best cars out there and gets consistent top-5/top-10 finishes virtually every week. He's more than deserving of the title. Going by your logic that rookie should not win titles, Matt Kenseth should have been the '98 Busch Series champion (Dale Jr. was basically a rookie that year) and Greg Biffle should have been the '04 champion (Truex was basically a rookie and Kyle Busch actually won RotY that year). That's obviously not what happened. I actually WANT to see Chase win this title just to see you proven wrong. If he wins, you'd be prepared to eat some of that "pie in the sky" you love talking about so much. 59. Grow up. Stop hating. Is Smith really that bad of a guy? " You're logic is poor. The basis for this is what is wrong. You're basing opinions of passionate love and passionate hatred based on things that are irrelevant to the point at hand. Now if Chase was 15, one could logically argue that if he can legally drive a NASCAR he can should legally be able to have a driver license, with the converse being true. But what is being argued here is that a driver who is talented and has clearly been above and beyond the best driver in the series should not be allowed to win the title based on (a) his rookie status, and (b) his age. Those are not qualifying factors. Talented rookies have come in and shook the world before. Ever here of Dick Hutcherson? He won 9 races in CUP his rookie year. Bill Rexford won the title as a de facto rookie at just 23 years of age in 1950 (arguing Bill wasn't deserving because Lee got a point penalty breaking a rule everyone knew). 67. Which would lead me to believe the series is dumbed down, scripted or was fixed this year. If a single race has a Hollywood ending, like the 2011 Daytona 500, I can believe that was legit, but for the championship to be like a movie, I can't see how that could be the result of something other than a dumbed down, fixed or scripted series. A driver with experience as champ's the only thing that can make me still believe in the series. Even if it was Regan Smith, who's back in the Nationwide and choked away a big points lead in the series last year. Chase is a Georgia boy. I live north of Syracuse, which Smith's hometown's near and you've never heard of my hometown probably. Adirondack International Speedway, which I've mentioned already's one of the nearest racetracks to my hometown. If Chase stays in the Nationwide when it becomes Xfinity next year, he can be champ then. I don't want Chase to make Austin Dillon look bad. He can be Rookie of the Year this year and champ next year. It's ok if the Nationwide top-6 looks like this at season's end: Regan Smith champ, Chase Elliott(ROTY) -1, then in any order, Elliott Sadler, Ty Dillon, Brian Scott and Trevor Bayne. That's usually the accepted belief, but not always true. Sometimes, talent trumps experience. In this case, Regan Smith is an experienced, veteran driver who has shown to be a mostly average driver in his career. Of course, we haven't really seen his true potential in Cup because he's never driven a high-calibar ride (although he did driver Junior's 88 for two races in 2012 and Tony Stewart's 14 car this year at Watkins Glen, but those aren't enough starts to really get an idea of his potential), but other than his Southern 500 win in which he held off Carl Edwards (in a better car with fresher tires), he hasn't had any super impressive runs. I like Regan Smith, and I too hope he wins the Nationwide title this year, but Chase Elliott is an 18-year-old driver (ipso facto, an adult) who has put together a nearly mistake-free season thus far, and has put on driving displays that belies his experience in the upper three levels of NASCAR. In fact, I'd go as far to say that Elliott's charge to win the Nationwide race at Darlington this year was more impressive than Smith's 2011 Cup win at the same track. He had to hold off Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson and Matt Kenseth for the win. Also, look at his road-course results for a better judge of talent -- fourth, sixth and fourth. 77. Hinch27 posted: 09.24.2014 - 5:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Again... not logical. Who says experience breeds titles? No one. What wins titles is wisdom, and that can be acquired at any age. One guy posted on twitter this morning that he is excited to be working with Mike this weekend in Dover, and Carl Long just had a post on his team's facebook page saying they have entered #13 as a post entry (they have found a sponsor to come on board.) And the debate over rookie champions and what not, I think if someone drives their butt off, and they have the most points at the end of a full season of racing, then they should be the champion. And I agree with Joey2448 on his remarks. Let's face it, Chase Elliott clearly has more talent than Regan Smith. Regan may have more top 10's this season, BUT Chase whacks Regan in top 5's (Elliott's 13 to Smith's 7) And Chase has won more races, and been faster at most tracks. Not to mention, all of Chase's wins were on non-plate tracks, and 2 of them had at least 5 Cup drivers he had to beat, and oh yeah...he won at Darlington...a place many people struggle with. I may have too much passion or just be affected by things with my drivers. " Again... so it's OK for Truex to win as a rookie since you like him...? You need to read some Walter Rudin. 86. racefangurl posted: 09.26.2014 - 10:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I looked him up. He's a dead mathematician. Which of his books do I need? 87. If a rookie can win the title in any series, it goes to show how good they are and how bright the future is for them. Chase winning the championship at 18 turning 19 establishes NASCAR as a sport that allows the younger talent the spotlight instead of the usual veterans. For example, you never hear of a first round rookie becoming MVP in the NBA, MLB, NHL or NFL and if it happens in rare cases, those individuals stand out because they competed in their very first year and made an impact. It's very exciting to watch to me. Chase has been the best in the NW series, besides the Buschwackers that come in and spoil the fun. Look at his numbers. Those are championship winning numbers. 88. racefangurl posted: 09.26.2014 - 2:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Might as well ink/etch his name in for Rookie of the Year. I know Ty's got no hope of that. I think Ty will stay 3rd in points at best. Austin was 3rd when he was a rookie, but he was ROTY. The same spot in points is possible for Ty, but unlike his brother, he won't have ROTY. I see a JR Motorsports 1-2 as the most likely scenario. That team will have the Rookie of the Year and the champ. Ty Dillon, Brian Scott, Elliott Sadler and Trevor Bayne will likely round out the top-6 and be behind the JR motorsports drivers, as long as these 6 run all the races. Chris Buescher's so far behind 6th in points, due to his Daytona1 DNQ, though he's 7th, it would take one of the current top-6 having to miss some time to have him climb in the standings. 89. All I remember about him was his dad's company was a bunch of BS and he owed money to a whole lot of people. 92. If Cale Conley finishes in the top 10 in a Nascar race of any kind you know the team brought good cars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
