Gibbs already has 4 Cup teams, so financially sound or not, someone has
to get the boot for Jones to have a seat. Kenseth would be the safe bet
I assume, unless Kyle Busch doesn't fully recover from his injuries.

Now that Matt Kenseth's son is going to be racing in the Xfinity series,
he might retire soon. Bill Elliott retired to focus on mentoring his
son, so I could see Kenseth doing the same thing.

Or not; apparently Hamlin has a mechanical problem, possibly a broken
rear end gear.

Third place is 9 seconds behind the leader, as the caution comes out for
fluid from Hamlin's car.

I highly doubt it. Bill is like in his late 50's, Kenseth is what 42
that's a pretty big difference in age. IMO people are really jumping the
gun on other drivers retiring because of Jeff. Yeah he's only like two
years older than Matt, but you need to remember he started driving full
time in cup seven years before Matt did. He's got a lot more wear on him
from the cup schedule than anyone else. I think Kenseth is gonna be
driving till around 2020, heck there's a chance if Ross proves himself
he might actually end up racing WITH Matt for a season or two before he
decides to hang it up.

Not a chance. As bad as it was it was still nowhere near as bad as
Tony's leg injury. He'll be back around July probably.

Not really. Back then it was normal for a drivers to be in their mid to
late 20's when the started driving in cup full time. It wasn't until the
mid 2000's teams started giving drivers in their early 20's a cup ride
on a regular bases.

Jones is the only really great prospect of that group. I'm not even sure
Herring is with JGR anymore (he was never great anyway), and Coughlin

Logano leads every single lap en route to the victory. Like I said, I'm
sure racefangurl will be delighted to know that, but it's really
disappointing to see someone utterly stomp the field like that,

Runner-up finish for Suarez! Nice to see the kid starting to get some

Still don't get why people make comments like this. Cup guys have been
racing the Xfinity Series since it's first race in 82, A race won by
Dale Sr., who was already a Cup Champion..... It wasn't a problem in the
80's the 90's and even the early 2000's. I don't know why people think
it's a problem now.

The problem is that nowadays, the Cup and Xfinity schedules are LARGELY
identical, giving Cup drivers even more chances than in the past to step
in and dominate races. They used to run a variety of tracks that the Cup
Series didn't race at back in the '90s and early 2000s, but the majority
of those tracks have ended up going by the wayside.

I've seen last year's Homestead Nationwide (as this series used to be
called) board and racefangurl said something about not liking Cup
drivers in this series. Why would a person like that be happy about Joey
dominating? He's a Cup driver. I think racefangurl would be saying

Each race such as this which NASCAR permits to be turned into a 300-lap
(or whatever) Sprint Cup practice session just alienates more and more fans.

But as long as Discount Tire is happy, that's all that really matters.

Advertisers are a major source (if not "the" major source) of revenue in
all of the big sports; in which others do they also get to dictate what
happens on the playing field?

if you ask those Nationwide drivers they tell you they like the cup
drivers in the field its just a bunch of non-fans that complain on here
like its a big issue or something.

who knows how the race would of been had Joey not been in the car and
Ryan Blaney was like he was supposed to be, something we wont know but I
doubt that it would of been a Nationwide driver winning it, maybe Chris
Buescher, but I somehow think if it was anybody Harvick most likely
would of been able to get up front and win

Nobody DNQ'd in this particular race but do you think *those* drivers

As long as we're letting sponsors dictate who drives and who doesn't,
what about the sponsors of the lesser teams who occasionally have to

stink-a-thon like today's race?

I get that but the way some people talk about it they make it seem like
the majority of the cup drivers run all of these Xfinity races. If you
go and look at their starts I believe only Busch, Kenseth, and Larson
ran more than half the Xfinity races last year. Everyone else ran around
15 or less which is similar to the amount of races Mark Martin would run
in this series back when their were less companion races with the cup
series and less races in general. To me it's not that the cup guys have
more chance to run but just that a greater number of them are choosing
to run. Either more cup guys winning doesn't make Suarez the real winner
of the race like some people here like to say.

I see where you're coming from but I have to disagree. Yes the sport
cost to much now which isn't completely NASCAR's fault as everything
everywhere costs more than it did 10-20 years ago. The fact is no
sponsor is gonna put all its money into someone or some team that isn't
proven anymore. You take the Cup guys out of the lower series the
sponsors would leave too which would probably cripple both Xfinity and
Truck series.

I think the big factor is that more of the CUP TEAMS are investing in
the series. back in the day all the cup guys who entered BGN, did so
with there own equipment (Martin and Roush being the exception).
Earnhardt had DEI, Nemechek had NEMCO, Jarrett had Horace Isenhower, and
McMurray had James Finch. None of which could pour n resources like
Gibbs and Penske are now doing. I also agree the schedule has a bi to do
with it, but I think the teams in the series are a big factor.

Something to realize about Cup drivers running the NXS races in the
1980s and early 90s is that in those days, (1) the schedules were
different and thus the races with "Buschwhackers" were few, and (2) the
cars were COMPLETELY different. Cup had purpose-built superspeedway
cars, whereas the NXS race Late Model Sportsman Cars, which are an
entirely different formula.

When a driver puts fresh tires on and can't even make up one position on
the competition with around 100 laps on their tires, there's a problem.
Bruton absolutely ruined this track when he chose to reconfigure
(neuter) Bristol. How anyone would be willing to pay for the Xfinity
"race" today is beyond me.

77 is dead on. When Earnhardt, Gant, Waltrip, etc. raced back in the
day, they were driving their own equipment or someone else's. The
biggest advantage they held over the rest of the competition was their
talent. Being affiliated with a Cup team isn't enough to be competitive
these days in the series. Unless your cars are coming out of the same
shop as a Cup team, you don't stand a chance of winning. JR Motorsports
is the exception to the rule as they run out of their own shop but are
also affiliated with HMS.

If you ranked the teams in the Xfinity Series, it would probably be:

1. Gibbs/Penske
3. Junior Motorsports
4. Childress/Roush
6. Harry Scott (when Larson is in the car)
7. The rest of the field

Unfortunately, the rest of the field makes up the majority of the
starters and they don't have the financial and technical backing
advantages the Cup teams do.

I disagree with the different schedule argument a little bit. I mean go
look at 82 Dale Sr and Morgan Sheperd Won races at Caraway, Hickory, and
IRP. Fact is even tho there were less companion races Cup guys were
still running the standalone races. A quick look at the schedule from
that year and I got 18 of the 29 races that year had a cup driver in it
and only 9 of the 29 races that year were companion races with the cup
series. Now that is less than today but thats still about 2/3 of the
schedule that had a cup driver in it.

The main difference in the 80s and 90s was, Mark Martin, aside, most of
the Cup drivers who ran in the lower series did so with their own teams,
as a combination of loving-to-race and setting up teams for them to run
when they retired.

With the exception of the all-conquering Winn-Dixie #60, Cup teams
didn't run Cup drivers in Busch for the purpose of track time.

(And it seems to me the practice really took off after NASCAR moved
Happy Hour ahead of the Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity race instead of after...)

I watched the first 150 or so laps today and then I decided to grow
outside and cut grass and wash the deck instead. The first phantom
debris caution, then that other mysterious caution just took my interest
away. NASCAR makes the Xfinity series hard to watch/support. The Cup
drivers in Cup equipment are just out there on a joyride, while a dozen
poor teams are out there doing the best they can. Additionally, what
does NASCAR having to throw debris cautions at a track like Bristol say
about the competition? Without the pointless cautions, only 4-5 cars
would probably have finished on the lead lap...but hey, NASCAR kept that
from happening.

These days I keep losing interest in Cup and Nxs Racing and keep gaining
intrigue in F1, the World Endurance Championship, and heck...even
MotoGP. O.O

Glad I didnt watch this or buy a ticket... its time for NASCAR to put
the whackers out. You want parity? But the top guys out of this series

All of you who think that the new layout is better than the old one can

f**k you fanboys voting down my comments. Never in my life have I seen
so many empty seats at Bristol, even on a rain day.

This place wont' even be on the schedule in 5 years. Guarantee. And it
will be thanks to you stupid ass johnny come lately "fans" who have
popped up the last 10 years and had to cry for NASCAR to change
everything in it's history.

This track has been absolutely ruined by all the changes, and no matter
what you idiots say, the empty seats race after race speak louder.

The sixth caution of the race on lap 195 should include the 55 of
Jeffrey Earnhardt as being involved. Earnhardt got spun in the aftermath
of the 44 and the 39 getting together. In fact, the 51 was never even
involved the incident.
