In other words Herring's Pole was completely pointless. 2. ch posted: 05.16.2015 - 7:07 pm Rate this comment: (7) (0) I am dumbfounded as to why is he not just staying in the 20, and why he hasn't gotten a chance in the car since 2013. 3. I probably wouldn't have even put him in for the plate races. I know he almost won the 2006 July Daytona race, but when looking at his plate record as a whole, he's been average at very best. It's quite sad that they are just holding Drew Herring hostage like this. The dude has clearly shown before that he is talented, but they are just wasting him. I understand that Erik is their hot shoe and deserves to be running the #20 for the majority of the year, but with Kyle being out of the #54, I don't know why they couldn't even give Drew ONE shot in there (let alone choosing Boris Said to run ovals INSTEAD of him). Either try to stick him in some races somewhere, or let him find another ride elsewhere. Why waste someone's time like that? 11. Hinch5 posted: 05.16.2015 - 8:04 pm Rate this comment: (2) (3) Let's face it: everyone knows Herring's talented. Gibbs knows it; Michael Wheeler the crew chief knows it; I know it; you know it; even Brian France knows it. But the most important part is that Sport Clips doesn't know it. 12. 23andJoe posted: 05.16.2015 - 8:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) As for the Said-Haid, I'm pretty sure he's in the car because Monster Energy likes him. 13. Jones is 18 years old, and although he's been arguably the best driver in Truck this year, he's had at least 2-3 victories slip through his fingers due either to bad luck or mistakes on his part. And after losing this most recent race by mere inches? I'd say he has every right to be upset. Me and Jeff Gordon can agree that he is a good driver and I hope he ends up in a ride that's decent that leads me to my next topic. The scat in the hat. I don't want to see him race for him if he goes up to the cup level soon. The equipment Roush has is dreadful for such a 'Successful' team. It would be awesome if Jeff Gordon can convince Rick Hendrick to give him a part-time schedule for 2016. I mean, Kasey Kahne is O.K., but I think other drivers should race for Hendrick besides Kahne. Speaking of teams, I have no clue why Ricky Stenhouse Jr. still has a ride. He is just, awful. I bet Jeb Burton would do better then what Ricky Stenhouse Jr. does right now. I mean, 3 years, 3 top 10's. That is some disappointing results. Anyway, Congrats for Chris Buescher. I am rooting for you for the Championship! P.S. I don't want to sound stupid, but look how much better the Xfinity races are without Cup Drivers racing. I had a idea for Cup Drivers racing in the Xfinity series, Do what NASCAR does for part time drivers in a full time 4-driver team, let the Cup drivers do A few races per season. If they did that, this series would be much, much better. 164. Walter White posted: 05.17.2015 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If Gibbs isn't careful, that team could decline like Roush did. BMan0213 posted: 05.17.2015 - 10:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @typo I get you want Buescher to get a good ride but lets be a little realistic here. Kahne just resigned and is in the first year of a three year deal. Chris's first shot at a full time ride at HMS would be when Jr's contract runs out in 2017 and the only way that would happen would be if he retired. Also while a part time ride there would be nice where would he race full time. He wouldn't have a ride at JRM do to the fact he doesn't really have sponsorship. If he did end up there he would be passed up by Ben Rhodes and or Cole Custer due to the money they would bring in. He just doesn't fit into that teams picture. As crazy as this sounds, I think Buescher's best choice would be to stay at Roush. Biffle showed us in the Showdown that Roush might not be as far off as we think. I really think the biggest problem with that team right now are the drivers not the equipment. I mean Biffle's old and i think we can all agree that when it comes to cup Stenhouse is a bust. Bayne is a little interesting but personally I never though he was that good to begin with. That 500 win really inflated his stock with a lot of people and I really think the bottom is about to fall out from under that. Anyways, there's no doubt in my mind that if Buescher got in one of those car he'd be able to put up better numbers than all three of them. Along as Roush doesn't fold at the end of the year lol I think he'll get Stenhouse's ride for next year and be all set. 166. Some people just aren't cut out for Cup and while it might be too early for Bayne it seems pretty clear to me that Stenhouse just doesn't have it and more than likely will be looking for a new ride very soon. Poor Driver development- Other then Jones, who have they developed? A great Nationwide/Xfinity program has had veterans like Kyle Busch, Hamlin, Kenseth, and formerly Logano and Stewart win a lot of races. This team let Darrell Wallace go, is mistreating Herring, and has a dud in Suarez. A lack of young talent beyond Jones is hurting. 2. Already declining Toyota performance- this team just does not light it up like it did from 08-13. Toyota does not have the car to compete with Chevy. They also do no not have the depth of teams as MWR is the only other major team. Toyota's weakness may lead them to eventually up and leave. If that happens, Gibbs won't be the top dog of their new manufacturer. Toyota has shown nothing, and Gibbs needs to realize that improving Toyota is their only true hope. 3. Copying the Roush model- Roush had a lot of veteran drivers and a good minor league program dominated by veterans while not developing drivers. Much like Gibbs now. And Gibbs hired 2 of those drivers. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. And Gibbs is ignoring the history of Roush. 4. Unstable leadership. Joe Gibbs is a figurehead. JD Gibbs is having cognitive issues. Where does this leave this team? If the leadership fails, the rest of the team goes down. Count me as a skeptic of the Gibb's commitment long term. 5. Inconsistent drivers. Kenseth is 43 and has never been elite several years in a row. Kyle Busch is an enigma. Hamlin has had reliability issues, and has been easily psyched out. Edwards has a great year then is out to lunch the next. This does not bode well. The drivers are not spring chickens, and the team only has Jones on tap. If Gibbs declines, Jones will leave for greener pastures. Busch and Hamlin are not locks to stay healthy or loyal. Edwards is not a great leader. This driver lineup is highly marketable, but not sustainable. At the end of the day, Gibbs needs to build around Jones for the future, keep Hamlin healthy and happy, and harness Busch's talent. While Gibbs has a lot of issues, they are still in a good position. However Penske has surpassed them as the Top non-Chevy team, and they have not capitalized by winning a Cup title as of late. If Gibbs can develop youth, and have the cars and drivers they have now maximize their potential, that will help immensely. Gibbs still has time. But they have issues to address. If they do not make the right decisions, they will fade into oblivion. 172. CrazyNASCARFan posted: 05.18.2015 - 1:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Stenhouse could be simply AAAA, but Roush seems to blame the cars now. The great cup drivers usually decline around their mid 40's unless they suffered a bad injury or made a bad career choice. I honestly think Stewart-Haas is worse shape than Gibbs on the cup level. Stewart-Haas is bad in future outside of Cole Custer. Tony is way past his prime at the age of 44. Kevin is going to be 40 in December and Danica hasn't met expectations on the track. 174. Maybe Roger Penske should take a page out of Joe Gibbs' book and drop his obsession with being the very first 3 time & consecutive Xfinity Owners Champion and put Ryan Blaney in that car more. I don't necessarily believe that Blaney not driving the car full time is a bad thing (Ryan Newman never drove a full season for Penske in any series before 2002), however Blaney should be driving something every weekend. So once Erik moves up to Cup (probably not until 2017 - next year they'll more than likely run him on the Chase Elliott plan - full time NXS, part time Cup in a fifth car) and Toyota gets their stuff back to where it was around 2011-2013, there's gonna be some scary results coming from that combo. They'll be in great shape. I have to agree with Eric. SHR is absolutely the most screwed Cup organization when it comes to the future. Unless they are somehow able to poach Kyle Larson or one of these other young guys, all they have is Cole Custer, who has shown a lot of talent, but definitely doesn't seem to be any type of game-changer.
