CrazyNASCARFan posted: 09.26.2015 - 7:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Considering how car matters more at mile and a half-2 mile tracks than other track types, MAR is right. A good driver, if they don't have an absolutely terrible car, can find some success on speedways (aka intermediate tracks, like Kentucky). Clements is a driver/owner (checked his stats), so I hope some more sponsorship money comes his way. Chastain (see above)is on Johnny Davis' team, so he deserves a spot on a better team once an opening comes up. 7. Big Mac Fan posted: 09.26.2015 - 7:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @4 And this is what I don't like about the current NASCAR. You don't need talent to land a top tier ride, all you need is a sponsor, while talented guys with no backing are left in the cold or underfunded rides. I'm surprised that they haven't at least gotten attention from other owners because they have ran exceptional this season. But hey, money talks more than talent. 8. luigistarted06 posted: 09.26.2015 - 7:13 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) How did Brandon Jones land the #33? I'd like to see him in Xfinity full time but noooooooo we can't have that because Discrap Tire needs Brad and Joey in there for 2/3 of the season. I hope this isn't true because you KNOW they would just pair it up with one of the Cup races to have yet another doubleheader weekend that the Cup brigade will most likely dominate. He is from a wealthy family and has a guaranteed sponsor in Rheem, which means he's going to be in high demand for any team. Said it before and I'll say it again: money trumps talent 9 times out of 10 in this sport. I'm not AGAINST having drivers from rich families getting rides if they're actually talented...but it's depressing to see so-so at best drivers keep getting good rides and being given chance after chance after chance due to money and family connections (While he has improved, John Wes Townley is an excellent example of this) while genuinely talented drivers either get to look forward to a career of driving garbage or ultimately get pushed out of the sport altogether because nobody wants them... 22. Well I mean as of right now he probably wouldn't. Yeah Ryan at this point is probably more of a fan favorite within the sport, but when you look at the big marketing picture, Brad and Joey are gonna do more for Discount Tires outside of the sport that Ryan currently would do. I use to be pissed at Discount Tires but now I'm beginning to look at Roger. You got Discount Tires to give Ryan rides, Why can't you get other companies to sign. No reason he couldn't do something to what Turner-Scott did for Kwasniewski last year when he had him run the 42 in the races Larson didn't do and had him in the 31 for the others. Like Discount Tires is letting Ryan run at least a 1/3 of the schedule this year. I'm sure you can find a bunch of companies that would sponsor Ryan when he's not in the 22, and as for the races where he would be in the 22 leaving his other car with no driver, just go find a young buy a ride driver to fill in. That way there's no risk Ryan would miss a race when he's not in the 22 and Penske could still go after that "very important" Owners Championship. 252. Unfortunately, it makes more sense from a profitability standpoint to have less stand-alone races, because having a Cup AND Xfinity race at the same track increases the likelihood that people attending the former will also attend the latter. And that is why, as I said earlier, I honestly think there will come a day in the near future when the two series' schedules are EXACTLY identical and they run at the same track every week...which means more and more opportunities for Cup drivers to come in and beat up on the lower budget teams... 256. Scott is by no means a scrub, but if he didn't have sponsors, while he'd still be in the sport he would not be driving for RCR. As far as limiting this to looking at finishing positions and laps led, spare me the "there's more to racing than leading and winning" crap and how the truly "sophisticated" fan can appreciate a fantastic battle for 13th place which covers maybe 2 laps out of 200. Maybe it's slightly different if you're at the track, but for those of us out here in TV land it's nothing but "oh aren't these Cup drivers so great" and "what a battle for the owner's championship!" all day or night long. Race 1: Daytona (plate race). Anything unpredictable can happen, and did, with Ryan Reed winning. Race 2: Atlanta. Cuppers finished 1-2 and led 100% of laps. Race 3: Vegas. Cupper won, led 91.5% of laps. Race 4: Phoenix. Cuppers 1-2-3-4, led 97%. Race 5: Fontana. Another Cupper victory, 89% laps led. Race 6: Texas. ERIK JONES WINS and Brian Scott led 26 laps. Still 4 Cuppers in top-7. Race 7: Bristol. Logano stinks it up, leads all 300 laps. Race 8: Richmond. Cuppers 1-2, led 99.2% of laps. Race 9: Dega (plate race). The unpredicatble didn't happen this time. Race 10: Iowa. STANDALONE RACE. Race 11: Charlotte. Cuppers 1-3, led 97%. Race 12: Dover. CHRIS BUESCHER WINS (Cuppers 2-4-5) and non-Cuppers led over half the race. Race 13: Michigan. Cuppers 1-3-6-7-8 and 70% led. So, one of the "better" races. Ugh. Race 14: Chicago. STANDALONE RACE (with 1 Cupper who finished 3rd and led 14%). Race 15: Daytona (plate race). Cupper still won, a la Dega. Race 16: Kentucky. Cuppers 1-3-6-8, led 81%. Race 17: Loudon. Cuppers 1-2-3-4, led 97%. Triple ugh. Race 18: Indy. Blaney loses on the last lap, Cuppers 1-4-6-7, led 65%. Race 19: Iowa. STANDALONE RACE. Race 20: The Glen. Cuppers 1-2, led 96%. Race 21: Mid-Ohio. STANDALONE RACE, no Cuppers AT ALL! Race 22: Bristol. Cuppers 1-2-3-8, Buescher screwed by very late caution, Kyle wins again. Race 23: Road America. STANDALONE RACE, 1 Cupper entered, and won, led 20%. Race 24: Darlington. Cuppers 1-2-4-6, led 91%. Race 25: Richmond. CHASE ELLIOTT WINS! Kyle sandbagged most of the race and still nearly won it. Race 26: Chicago. Cuppers 1-2-4, led 93%. Back to business as usual. Race 27: Kentucky. STANDALONE RACE, the last one of 2015 which likely means 6 in a row of "ugh". The Drivers: Here are the Cuppies in all their "glory". Note that many of them are infrequent offenders, or not constant threats for the win. Stats shown are races and average finishing position, in order by fewest number of starts to most: David Ragan: 1 start, 7.0 avg. finish Sam Hornish, Jr.: 3, 22.0 Dale Earnhardt, Jr.: 4, 8.2 Matt Kenseth: 4, *3.5* Kasey Kahne: 5, 11.4 Brad Keselowski: 6, *3.5* (1 win) Paul Menard: 8, 9.1 (1 win) Aric Almirola: 8, 14.9 Kyle Busch: 9*, *4.6* (4 wins) Joey Logano: 10, *3.9* (4 wins) Kyle Larson: 10, 12.7 Kevin Harvick: 10, 6.8 (2 wins) Denny Hamlin: 10, 7.8 (3 wins) Austin Dillon: 14, 7.1 (3 wins) * Kyle missed the opportunity to stink up 10 additional races due to his Daytona crash. So we've got a few who may not run all the time but run up front all day when they do show up (Kenseth, Keselowski), a few whose average finish isn't quite so dominant (but it's close) but who run far more often and win often too (Harvick, Hamlin, Dillon). And then there's those who do both (Busch, Logano). For those who argue a double-standard by saying that one of the Kyles gets a free pass while the other is reviled, take a deep breath, look at their average finish and look at their number of wins. Then exhale. 269.
