Josh Reaume and Derrike Cope qualified 34th and 35th, but won't race today. Mike Harmon was, I believe 37th. He also DNQs. If NASCAR did still use the top-30 rule, Travis Kvapil, Joey Gase and Ryan Ellis would've missed the race. ----- Aside from that, Matt Tifft dominated both rounds of qualifying after being fastest in final practice yesterday. First career pole for him. 2. Darrell posted: 04.30.2016 - 12:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The top 30/35 rule was one of the worst ideas ever. See qualifying results in the Cup series in 2007 for evidence. 3. Now one that got a top 5 last year and two other full-time rides will race. No. Don't go back to it. 4. It still didn't work though as the 93 ended up 34rh 9. I'm not against Cope or Harmon, it's just that they performed worse on plate tracks than the 3 that made the race. 10. Tyson posted: 04.30.2016 - 1:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) @9 - Based on this weekend as a whole, I can safely say the 70 has most definitely been better than the 52 and 97. The 74 has probably been better too. 11. Ultimate Warrior #18 posted: 04.30.2016 - 1:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) The top 30 rule was horrible. Those damn JGR cars no matter who drives it can't be stopped. How about JJ qualifying 10th. How about 22 year old Morgan Shepard showing some speed. And Seig and Clements pretty slow in qualifying but don't think it really matters. Big race for drivers 10-18 in xfinity points anything could happen. 12. Sparks Flys posted: 04.30.2016 - 2:23 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I have no problem with the provisional system. The top 35/30/25 rule was the absolute worst in NASCAR history. Being 30th in points should not allow somebody to show up to a racetrack any given week with relief and the idea "I'm absolutely locked in no matter how poorly I do." This provisional system is fine...BUT...there are simply way too many provisionals! When 41+ cars show up, being 34th or 35th fastest should not be a death sentence. Additionally, when you issue sooo many freaking provisionals, you allow teams like Means and Obaika and Ware to just happily show up every week, put up a half baked effort and continue on making purse monies. In both Xfinity and World Trucks series, there should be no more than 4 provisionals. Take 36 on time in Xfinity and take 28 on time in trucks. I feel absolutely gutted for all our DNQs today. They all brought half decent cars to track, but will have to settle for watching the Nigerian Prince Mobile and B.J. McLeods clunkers on the superspeedway instead. 14. Maybe a top-30 rule isn't perfect, but like you said, being 34th and 35th shouldn't be a death sentence. There has to be another answer to get the deserving cars in the race. 16. numbah10hatah posted: 04.30.2016 - 2:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) BJ McLeod's cars ain't bad. If you watch the 2013 finish, the wreck happens entering the tri-oval. Without a caution, Kasey Kahne wins in the three-wide photo finish. Withe plenty of time to throw a caution for a major wreck, NASCAR did the right thing in 2013, I think. So, in essence, NASCAR was being relatively consistent in their ruling, but you can definitely argue the caution today changes nothing as far as safety is concerned. When the field is just yards from the finish line and the wreck only involves three cars, all the caution did was change the race's outcome. I feel bad for the 48, but I'm also happy to see Sadler win. Definitely something I would think will be addressed in the driver's meeting tomorrow morning. 379. A lot of people, including Mark Martin, couldn't believe there was no caution. IMHO, that wasn't a safe way to end the race, as cars continued wrecking at and past the finish line. Then again, I'm biased because I wanted Mark to win, but NASCAR's call also gave us that thrilling photo finish. So what can you say? I think NASCAR obviously wants a start-finish line finish, but they also air on the side of safety, so if they're really consistent on the rule and the same thing happens tomorrow, make the same call. 383. When I saw Logano and Koch's car all torn up after getting back to the TV, I was rather concerned at first because I thought one of them might have gotten up in the grandstands. Glad that wasn't the case, but still, those were some nasty blows those guys took. Logano hitting the outside wall head-on and then getting clobbered by Koch's #11...ouch. I was happy when they said Poole had won because it was a good underdog story and it was nice to see a new face take the checkered flag...then they went back to replays and gave the win to Sadler because he was leading when the caution came out even though he crossed the line...what, fifth, I think? NASCAR has been unfortunately inconsistent with finishes here at Daytona and Talladega...my first thought when I saw that was "They let them race back to the line in the 2007 Daytona 500 when a major crash broke out relative to about the same distance from the finish line then...yet they didn't here? I don't get it..." Whoever said NASCAR's slogan should be "Consistently Inconsistent" is dead on the money. I know they would never use a self-deprecatory slogan like that...but it would fit so well. Second NASCAR-sanctioned race at Talladega in a row with a controversy-marred finish, yay... I suppose it's nice to see a series regular still get the win (and in all honesty, I imagine Sadler would do more in the Chase than Poole ever would)...but still, you have to feel bad for Poole. For five minutes the kid thought he had just won his first NASCAR race...then they tell him "Sorry, you didn't win-you weren't ahead when the caution came out". He hasn't exactly been contending for wins week in and week out-if I were Poole, I'd be totally CRUSHED by being told I didn't win. You couldn't blame him for that either. Let us just hope the Cup race-whenever it runs, as rain may make sure we don't start on Sunday-doesn't have as wacky and controversial a finish...but I'm not going to hold my breath on that... 405. It's going to confuse and mislead people years down the road when they look at these results (they'll probably wonder "How did Logano lead on the white flag lap and get lapped?")...and it's already confusing people now as I've seen many people list the Atlanta Cup race as one of the ones in NASCAR history in which all starters took the checkered flag when a couple of them actually did not due to a crash on the final restart. I don't know the finances of the #0, but he's running much better than Harrison Rhodes did in the #0 last year. - Ryan Preece was nearly wrecked 2 or 3 times in the last 20 laps. It never should have been "was he forced down or not?" 3 - NASCAR needs to call off policing against push-drafting - Almirola and Gaughn were in the right and this race needed a lot more push-drafting for passing.
