George posted: 06.19.2016 - 3:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (4) Iowa's a fine track and a *standalone* Cup date would be great (several tracks currently have 2 races where 1 would be plenty.... Dover, Pocono....) but the lack of interest in today's race has nothing to do with the track and everything to do with how boringly predictable the Xfinity series has become. "Predictable" implies some measure of doubt in the outcome so perhaps even that is not the right word. A Cup driver or a Gibbs Toyota will outqualify and outrace the "competition" by miles every single race with the exception of the anything-can-happen plate tracks. Why NASCAR is trying so hard to drive this series into the ground, only they know. 38. Maverick11 posted: 06.19.2016 - 3:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeley cuts Herring off and he gets dumped as a result. 39. BMan0213 posted: 06.19.2016 - 3:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Why is Brad in this race? Why not run Ryan Blaney in the 22?" Easy Brad like Iowa. I honestly feel like it's one of his favorite tracks. I know he said after he won a few years ago that was gonna be his last race here, but at that time There was a Cup race the same weekend as the Iowa race so he probably didn't think it was worth the travel to race there. Now that it's on an open weekend for the Cup series I wouldn't be surprised if he asked Penske to run this race, and I have a hard time believing Penske would say no to Brad if he really wanted to run here. 40. The 22 has been crap by their standards this year, it's probably a smarter move to put Brad in the car so he can help figure out whats wrong. 45. Ultimate Warrior #18 posted: 06.19.2016 - 3:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) Neither Blaney nor Brad should be racing this week it's a stand alone xfinity race. Brad has said before that they'll put Ryan Blaney in the 22 car as much as Discount Tire will allow them to. Discount Tire isn't paying the sponsorship money to see Ryan Blaney or a development driver run the race, they're paying to see Brad K race and race up front. The same goes for any team - Hornish was being sponsored by Toyota today, which is essentially no sponsor. NOS doesn't want to sponsor the car if Kyle Busch isn't running most of the year, I'm certain it's in the contract that Kyle must run xx amount of races, and whatever is leftover mostly goes to Matt Tifft. 57. In a time where the Xfinity Series is Cup Jr. and the truck series is just a young kid developmental playground with no identity, it was refreshing to see a weekend where there was no Cup event and these two series got to throw machines around on a short track. After the trucks run Gateway next week, we're back to the same old, same old bland calendar for the 2nd and 3rd NASCAR touring series. (Barring exceptions for Dirt and Road Course racing.) But yeah, this weekend the NASCAR racing was fine. It's just too bad it can't be like this much more often (say 4-5 more times in trucks, 6-7 more times in Xfinity competition. 68. Sky Warrior posted: 06.20.2016 - 5:21 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) @56 I agree. Penske and Gibbs are so strapped for cash in the 2nd tier series, they have no choice but to bend over backwards for sponsors who will never move up to help out on the Cup side. There's just no way they could find sponsors willing to let young kids drive their cars, so they have to let NOS and Discount Tire get Cup drivers at reduced rates just to stay in the series. There's been no pre-race caviar on gold plates for weeks now, those 2 teams are in serious financial trouble. 81. Penske has to put a non-cup driver in the #22. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something like that happens this year. 83. racefangurl posted: 06.21.2016 - 12:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) 82, even though the winner of that Iowa race was a regular at the time, he still had some Cup experience.
