Many cars are running throwback paint schemes for this race as part of NASCAR's retro Southern 500 weekend. Bonus points to veterans Elliott Sadler and Derrike Cope who are running schemes from earlier in their own careers. Cope has his iconic 1990 Daytona 500-winning orange-and-white colors while Sadler runs his old dark blue Citi Financial scheme from the mid-2000s as it was the forerunner of his current OneMain sponsorship. 2. Yeah, the guy doesn't have many years left in the tank, but he's running very well this year, dominated in a win, and is leading the points by over a full race. Come November, with the consistency he's shown, he might have a real shot for the title. Glad that you've started to realize it. 122. I don't mind any Buschwhacker winning at all. He doesn't like seeing Buschwhackers win race by race, but would be really glad, if his Kyle Larson won. I really don't care, if it's Kyle, Brad, Joey or even Almirola and McDowell. When Kyle wins, I'm glad he won, but I don't write any stupid comments about others winning. He does. And by the way, Petty ran more than just one race in Winston West or K&N Pro Series = no problem. Kyle makes just one single start and everything is wrong. It seems like people are just lazy to go back and hate the pre-2000 Buschwhackers. But really like to hate today's Buschwhackers, when there are up to 5 Buschwhackers at max and not up to 15 or 20 like before. My point is that there's no hate on his 7 starts in non-companion races he wasn't supposed to be in. Sure, those cars were the same, but it's still a different series and he ran non-companion races. That's a Buschwhacking, if you like it or not. 124. chevyfan98 posted: 09.04.2016 - 12:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think my main issue with Sadler the past few years (ever since he left RCR really) is that he was always just kind of there. Outside of the plate tracks he never contended to win, never led many laps, and would always somehow come out of the race with a better finish than he deserved. Of course its hard to run up front as a regular in the Xfinity series, but guys like Ricky Stenhouse, Sam Hornish, Austin Dillon, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Chris Buescher, and Daniel Suarez all have been able to that. Sadler was pretty much an afterthought from 2013 to 2015, but this year obviously he's been much better. I expected he'd be better than last year at least with JRM, but didn't think he'd be THIS good, and I certainly didn't expect he'd have the performance he had today. But, we've all been proven wrong before. 125. Maverick posted: 09.04.2016 - 12:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Kyle makes just one single start and everything is wrong." The fact that he's already had 283 starts as a Buschwhacker in Xfinity alone (408 total if you include Trucks) is what makes it "wrong." If he had a quarter, even half of that number, people wouldn't care as much. "It seems like people are just lazy to go back and hate the pre-2000 Buschwhackers." With the exception of Mark Martin (I agree with you on that one), the majority of the Buschwhackers before 2002 drove for their own teams, usually meaning a bigger equipment deficit. JGR is at its peak and is creaming everyone. There is a difference. "And by the way, Petty ran more than just one race in Winston West or K&N Pro Series = no problem." 408 >>>>>>>>>> 7. I hate most Buschwhacking, but I can tolerate it more if it's sporadically instead of almost weekly. In fact, I've just realized that Busch has 414 Cup Starts, and 408 starts in Xfinity and Trucks combined since 2005. That means for almost every Cup race, he has one lower series race. "But really like to hate today's Buschwhackers, when there are up to 5 Buschwhackers at max and not up to 15 or 20 like before." If you've read the comments on this site, you will notice that there is A LOT of negative comments on Buschwhackers from the days where they consisted of half the field. Of course unless a guy like Mark Martin or Jeff Burton won, and then all the posters were hypocrites. But even though we aren't commenting on those races, it doesn't mean we tolerate it any more than now. Take the 2007 Daytona 500 for example. Any race where NASCAR throws the caution on the last lap, fans (rightly so) want them to finish under green. But that race? Mark Martin was in the lead, so they should've thrown the caution. And what about his retirement tour that lasted nearly an entire decade? No one ever complains about that and all the drivers whose careers he impacted, like David Reutimann for example. 127. However, he at least switched over to KHI in the late 2000's for 101 starts, and KHI isn't as great as RCR when you look at the results. Plus, I make an exception and don't count the 33 starts in 2001, because at the beginning of the year he was not expected to take over a full time Cup ride. If they removed him from the 2 after Daytona, it would have killed the team chemistry, so I can at least understand that one. I still wish that he'd quit as well though. Edwards, Kenseth, Biffle, and the other Buschwhacking giants of the 2000's at least got the message. "Then why is Kyle Busch hated for running races in Trucks for his own team in his own equipment?" First off, my mistake. I forgot that Kyle ran for KBM in 2012, so his starts now goes down to 384. But KBM in Nationwide and KBM in Trucks are two totally different animals. In Nationwide, that was definetly his own equipment. He ran way worse than he did with JGR, and he went winless that year. Had he tried to build his Nationwide team up and continue racing there, I would've respected it more. Meanwhile, KBM in Trucks is easily the best team. Even with Kyle's name, they are getting the most support from Toyota, and a lot of funding. In my opinion it's basically a JGR team, similar to how the KHI truck team was practically RCR. "And by the way, it should be 7 >>>>>>>>>> 1 (on the same level). 283 >>>>>>>>>> 0 for Xfinity and 125 >>>>>>>>>> 0 for Trucks (I wouldn't count it, because Petty couldn't run in that series after his retirement.)" It's logical that there's almost nothing on those older Buschwhacking pages because the Internet wasn't what it is now 10-15 years ago. For example, if RR existed in 1998, you'd have a ton of Gordon haters posting about how boring the races are when he dominates. But since the Internet and this site were minuscule back in the day, there's little to nothing about that on the pages, even though it doesn't identify the opinions of the time. Same goes for older Buschwhacking races. Besides, if I spent all of my time posting "another dull win by (insert driver here)" on every race from X amount of years ago, I'd pretty much have no life. 131. And why are you so sure you're always right? Just because you consider something in a different way, it doesn't mean it's true. Take a look at Buschwhacking, for example, and find me an official definition it's a really bad thing. All that I can see are just some facts why it's wrong and some facts why it's good. Where is that official definition by NASCAR, how it really is? All that facts are just people's opinions, nothing else. That's why you can easily say it's wrong, but it doesn't mean it's really wrong. It's just your opinion, which can't convince all the people it's wrong. 134. Carl & Johnny chose not to enter the 72 this week, due to the incoming rain (they would have DNQ'd had it had to go by points). HOWEVER, Obaika, despite not having a 2nd car together, still entered their 2nd car anyways. They would have got in over the 72. NASCAR announced the lineup Thursday night with the hurricane hitting, but Obaika had no 77 car together ( 97 Cars from Mid-Ohio and Road America are both still wrecked). In a last-ditch effort, Obaika purchased a car from Curtis Key (still in primer, no motor, no seat, etc.) FRIDAY MORNING! They thrashed on the car Friday, but come midnight, they decided it was not going to make it to the track. NASCAR found out when the gate opened at 6 AM Saturday, and thus the 72 got unloaded about an hour before practice. 138.
