It stings seeing the #5 have its place taken in the field by the 25, 89, 97, 74, 14, etc. 4. GoPM27 posted: 10.07.2016 - 3:39 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) DC=Driver change. @3--They've paid to get their way to the track each week. Just because Cole is a "young talent" doesn't mean those who have attempted races all season should have their roles usurped due to youth. Also, not saying he's the next Jeff Gordon but a guy who is still relatively new to the series such as Chris Cockrum deserve to be out there just as much as Cole Custer. 8. Maverick posted: 10.07.2016 - 3:44 pm Rate this comment: (5) (0) In the 2000's, it was common for a Buschwhacker or a top tier team to DNQ in a Busch race because they were running a part time car. It's always been like this. 9. Matt L posted: 10.07.2016 - 3:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Completely agree with Post #4. These rainout lineup procedures are so convoluted. You go by full time teams in owner points, then attempts and past champions and teams that have won in some specific order, then you jumble it all around by combined practice speeds. I had the lineup and owner points side-by-side on my laptop and could not figure out why the #10 was a DNQ. I found out here. I still have no idea why the #21 is in over the #77 according to attempts. This is why I'm glad the Cup series went back to the simple rainout rules. It takes 2 sentences to explain the whole field is lined up by their owner points when it rains. 10. Tyson posted: 10.07.2016 - 4:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Original DNQs were the 77, 21 and 5. 10 withdrew, so the 77 would've been in, but the 77 withdrew as well giving the final spot to the 21. 11. chevyfan98 posted: 10.07.2016 - 4:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What are the rainout rules exactly? Custer was 24th and 18th in the two practices... that's a DNQ? I don't get it. 12. JSPorts posted: 10.07.2016 - 4:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Basically, they take all the cars that have attempted all the races and put them in. Then the rest of the field is based off of who has the most attempts, and then the most owner's points. After the cars in the field are set, the lineup is created based off of practice speeds. The 5 car doesn't have enough attempts to make it in. 13. Anonymous posted: 10.07.2016 - 5:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's not like failing to qualify for one race is going to hurt his chances of moving up, guaranteed a cup ride because of his dad 14. 02Justin10 posted: 10.07.2016 - 5:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Basically...think of the rainout rulebook as owner points and owner attempts determine the 40 that are in, then practice speeds rank those 40. In the Xfinity Series, the rulebook is: 1.) Top 30 in owner points - regardless of number of attempts (Hence, how #98/Jeb Burton made the field.) 2.) Driver and/or Owner winners from the past Xfinity season. (Hence, how the #12/Joey Logano made the field.) 3.) Past Champions (Hence, Jeff Green gets in by 2000 past champion status.) 4.) 2016 Owner Attempts (Hence, how #21, #93, #40, #70, #89, #97, #13 and #74 make the field.) Sure...its a convoluted system...but I like it. If you're a part time team, then 30th place (or 31st, 32nd depending on where other part timers are) is your desired cutoff. These teams that show up and fill the field every week deserve this small token of appreciation. Additionally, Cole Custer will get to run more in the future. And furthermore, if Dale Jr. *really* wanted the #5 in the field, find someone to cut a check. GMS Racing just did it today for the 2nd time this season. 15. joey2448 posted: 10.07.2016 - 6:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race is rescheduled to run 11 a.m. ET Sunday morning, and will still be televised live on NBC Sports Network. 16. As bad as it looks on TV if there's no radio communications that makes it obvious theres a good chance they'll get away with. That's what screwed MWR in Spingate. After Bowyer spun they didn't shut up about it which allowed NASCAR to connect the dots and drop the hammer on them. 125. Considering how underwhelming Reed has been thus far at Roush (nothing against personally as I've said before, just calling the results as I see them), I have no idea where all these top 10 finishes started coming from lately but I think he wouldn't have gotten the critcism he's been getting these past few years if he'd been doing that up to his point. Still don't think he's going to be one of the next Cup superstars like the series commercials make him out to be, but it's nice to see him turn the corner lately. As for Koch, he's not been stellar, but his results with the new #11 team this year have been a career best for sure. His first 3 top 10 finishes, consistent top 15-top 20 threat all year long, made the Chase and survived to see the second round. Now considering the sheer amount of poor equipment in the Xfinity series that's not a HUGE endorsement for him, but this has to be a major confidence booster for Koch and his team down the road. I do think Blake is somebody who could be decent in really good equipment, if he was ever given the opportunity to drive in some... As for who wins the title? It's gonna be between Sadler, Suarez, and Jones, I think, unless one of them fails to make it to the final round. It feels...pretty obvious to pick them considering they've been the only three series regulars driving the full schedule to win races this year, but I have a hard time seeing someone else getting it done barring luck really going their way in the final race. (Although Jones barely made the second round, but that's primarily because he crashed in one of the races in the first round. That's...largely how his season has turned out. He's Kyle Busch's protege and the "win or wreck" thing seems to have really rubbed off on him...) I admit I haven't watched many Xfinity series races lately because...y'know, Cup domination, and admittedly due to not having an opportunity to see some of them lately (I missed Dover because it ran a little early in the morning for me; missed most of this one due to a power outage by the hurricane, although it came back in time for me to catch the last 20 laps ago-Cup drivers winning, hooray). But looking at the numbers recently...my gut has to go with Sadler. He's been a consistency machine all year long, but lately he really seems to have had a fire lit under him. OneMain Financial making the decision to come back and sponsor him again next year must've really been a serious confidence and morale booster for Elliott and his team lately. He dominated Darlington and held off a hard-charging Hamlin to win despite slapping the wall with a couple laps to go, won Kentucky, and has shown lately he can hang with the Cup brigade like Jones and Suarez routinely do. Momentum certainly seems to be on his side right now in a big way. If it continues like this, I can easily see him leaving Homestead with the Xfinity Series crown. 127. rm posted: 10.09.2016 - 11:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Reed just consistently finishes about 11th. It's good enough to get him through the first round of the Chase but he's going to need chaos or a ton of newfound speed to make it to Homestead. Consistency is not a bad thing, but at the same time it's not going to win him a championship and it's not the flashy kind of consistency that Matt Kenseth used to win in 03. 128. With when the Chase came together for the Xfinity and Truck series, it was too late for NASCAR to say Cup drivers couldn't compete in the Chase races of a lower series. Most of this is due to the fact most driver line-ups were mostly set w/ sponsorships. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here, but no Cup driver who made the Chase last year will be able to compete in the finales of the Xfinity series and Truck series. It would make sense once it is actually established. For example, guys like Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard, and Matt Kenseth wouldn't be eligible to run the Xfinity finale at Homestead. [I could be completely wrong with this, but that's what I think the ruling was] 131. chevyfan98 posted: 10.10.2016 - 3:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here, but no Cup driver who made the Chase last year will be able to compete in the finales of the Xfinity series and Truck series." You're right. Not that it means much though. Dillon in the #2 Blaney in the #22 Larson can still run the #42 Elliott or Kahne in the #88 The only "star car" that will have to use a non-cup driver is the #18. 132. Maybe he should go to the 12 car to keep his Xfinity every year win streak alive, because that car is clearly better than the 22. They entered the 12 car 4 times this year, it won twice, while their full-time 22 is still winless. And just 4 races to go. 63. JSPorts posted: 10.12.2016 - 4:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Part of the reason I don't like the Chase system for Xfinity is that the Xfinity drivers never win races. In Cup, if you have a bad week, you can make it up by winning in the next race. Cup drivers won 100% of the races in the regular season. In Trucks, it's not as easy but you still could do it, as Truck drivers won 81% of the time during the regular season this year. However, Xfinity drivers only won 35% of the races during the regular season. That means that about once every three races, one of the ~30 Xfinity regulars in the race each week will win. Not good odds for drivers trying to make it to the next round. 143. JSPorts posted: 10.12.2016 - 4:55 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Here are 4 possible solutions I have for fixing this problem. I would take one, or any combination of the 4. 1. Get rid of Cup drivers in the Xfinity Series. MLB players don't play in minor league games. 99% of other racing series don't have top-level drivers driving in lower-level races every week. 2. Get rid of the Chase. It doesn't fit this series, but I would like to just get rid of it altogether. That way, the best car/driver/team combination could really win each week. 3. Award credit for a win to the highest-finishing Xfinity driver in each race. For example, if Elliott Sadler finished 2nd at Daytona and Chase Elliott won, Sadler would get 3 bonus points and a Chase spot for that win. Using that format, the points going into the Chase would've been Jones-2030, Suarez/Allgaer-2012, Sadler-2009, Wallace/Dillon/Gaughan-2003. Then, in the Chase, Sadler would've gotten a free pass to the next round for finishing 2nd at Charlotte, because he was the highest Xfinity driver. 4. If Cup drivers think it's so important for them to get extra "practice" by kicking all the smaller teams' and younger drivers' butts every Saturday afternoon, then let them race. But here's the catch: they all have to start at the back of the field, and don't get to practice or qualify. Then, they are not scored during the race, so it's almost as if they weren't in the race anymore. Don't give them prize money or owner/manufacturer points either. Then see if they REALLY want all that extra "practice." 144.
