If a certain combination of things happen next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, NASCAR could very easily crown TWO winless champions next weekend. Both Timothy Peters in the Truck Series and Justin Allgaier in the XFinity Series could very easily win their respective series championships without a single win, as both will race for their respective titles having not yet won in 2016. Peters could very easily finish second to someone like William Byron, and if he does, he takes the Truck Series title without a single win this season. And if Allgaier is the first XFinity Series driver to finish behind a Cup regular that wins the race, Allgaier takes the XFinity Series title without winning any races, as well. Wasn't this the exact situation that the "win and in" Chase bracket that was format introduced in 2014 and brought to the lower series this year was designed to prevent? Yet it could happen TWICE next weekend if the right circumstances prevail. 58. Toyota already swept the Truck series with Daniel's victory in the Truck series. Kyle Busch's dominate win extended the lead in the Xfinity series from 15 to 21, a solid lead and a Top 5 would clinch the title at Homestead. Before the Cup race tomorrow at Phoenix, Toyota has a 29 point lead over Chevrolet, and a Toyota has finished in the top 5 in every race all season (excluding both Michigan and Pocono races). 29 is a solid lead, as long as a Toyota driver finishes 10th or better in these two finale Cup races and they're golden. 63. Probably in part because Regan Smith lost his sway bar in a race a few weeks before. If not for that, so I thought at the time, he could've had a mathematical shot until some point at Homestead. I do remember Chase had trouble at Homestead, but perhaps even if Smith had a mathematical shot at Homestead, it would've still been the same champion with Smith a closer 2nd than he was. Perhaps one of the Xfinity Chasers will lose the championship because of some issue this year. There's no telling how it could've been or will be. As far as this year's Xfinity Chase goes, we just have to wait and see how Homestead plays out. 69. Let me play a sad song for ya on the world's smallest violin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdofmoYcJNE But in all seriousness-for the most part I see this as a good thing. This series advertises itself as the place "where names are made", yet over and over again it feels like the only names being made are those that have ALREADY been made: Kyle Busch, Keselowski, Logano, Harvick, Larson, etc. It gets old seeing the Cup stars dominate week after week and that's why I've rarely watched the Xfinity series this year. With them taking steps to actually increase the amount of times series regulars will win, I don't see that as a bad thing. Heck, my interest level in the Series will probably go up next year as a result. It's not what I'd ideally like (NASCAR bringing back more stand-alone events at short tracks across the country and other places, a good way to limit Cup driver involvement), but at least it's an actual STEP in the right direction. On the other hand I can see how this would hurt the series as well. Sponsors have gone all in promoting Cup drivers in this series and have taken great pride in getting the ultimate say-so in who gets to race each week (lest we forget Rockwell Automation forcing Aric Almriola to step out of his car while dominating at Milwaukee 2007 because they couldn't STAND not seeing Denny Hamlin in that car)...so I can easily see sponsors balking big time at this. Being denied opportunities to have the drivers they want to see drive their cars could lead many of them to give the middle finger to NASCAR and pull up stakes, leaving the sport altogether, which could leave this series hurting badly from a financial standpoint. Sadly I can all too easily see this happening...Though I HOPE in the long run this move will benefit the Xfinity Series as a whole. I blame NASCAR for allowing the whole Buschwhacking craze to get so badly out of hand in the first place... 76. I'm sure I'm not the only person in this world, who "doesn't miss some screws in the head". But the reality is different, unfortunately. Just look around yourself - don't tell me you don't see at least one silly thing from someone while going to school/work or while going somewhere? Most people are just idiots, plain and simple. Either raised badly or got worse while being with their "groups of friends". And it won't get better, only worse. People need to know what naturalism is - pure reality, no changes of something just because it doesn't sound like some person wants. And this is a big media problem as well - they inform about something in the way they want it. Not in the way it really happened... And in NASCAR's case - limiting Buschwhackers can't be good for any series, because they just belong there. They really help the young drivers, but it looks like all you consider the most important is taking the wins, not learning how to drive better. No wonder driver like Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was good in Xfinity (even won 6 times in 2012), but is horrible in Cup - no bad equipment, he just thought he is ready to move on with the success he had. But he wasn't... Have you ever wondered why Xfinity drivers like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch or Carl Edwards were all able to almost immediately run well with the best in their first full-time Cup season and most of nowadays drivers aren't? Equipment, yes, but also they were all experienced enough to race with the best ones. 83. However for 2018 I would like to see the rains tighten a little bit more here's what I'd like to see. Eligibility drops from five years to three years if you have three years of cup experience you don't need to be running a large Xfinity schedule. Cup drivers who have three or more years of experience are limited to 5 Xfinity races per year and 3 truck races. Cup drivers are also once again not allowed to compete in dash 4 cash races and any of the chase races if there is a chase next year. What do you guys think. 84. Except the Watkins Glen race, he was a factor for the win in all his starts and could easily make it 16 wins out of 17 starts, because a flat tire allowed Austin Dillon to pass him at Fontana, bad restart allowed Erik Jones to pass Kyle at Bristol (that would be 6th consecutive win in a row), rain ruined his chances for winning at Pocono, Daniel Suarez passed him in the final lap at Michigan, the contact with Brad Keselowski ruined his chance for winning at Bristol and at Chicagoland, a flat tire and a spin ruined his dominance. But this ain't Formula 1, where the team with the best equipment wins in 95 % of all races and those circumstances gave away 6 wins from him. But still, very impressive season and also surprising, when #22 car (the most consistent car in 3 previous seasons) didn't win a single race, while the other #12 car won 2 out of 4 entered races. Wonder, if other teams can catch up to Joe Gibbs Racing, so that Kyle can have some proper rival again (like Carl Edwards and the whole 22 car stable in the past seasons) next season. 85. NASCAR's underlying loop data on which that stat is based is very incomplete. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
