Only three (3) times this season in the Xfinity Series has a non-Cup driver qualified in the front row despite the handicap of not driving a JGR Toyota. Ty Dillon did it twice and Sam Hornish Jr. did it once. One of Ty's was a plate race, Hornish's was a road course. Sadler therefore becomes only the second driver to accomplish the feat on an oval in 2016. Sadler picked the perfect time to have his top starting position of the season, but can he keep up the pace once the green flag waves? 2. Tyson posted: 11.19.2016 - 12:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This takes the cake for most exciting qualifying session of the year. Between five cars missing the race, the drama of Tifft not being able to make a lap and three Chasers qualifying 1-2-3 with Sadler breaking up the JGR teammates, it was a fun one to watch. Kudos to Brandon Brown and Timmy Hill qualifying on time. They had no points to fall back on, and barely nabbed two of the top-33 spots to make the race. Nice job done by Jordan Anderson, too. Made round two of qualifying, and will start p22 in the Gdovic car. 3. Archie posted: 11.19.2016 - 12:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @1: I didn't watch qualifying but given the results I will assume Sadler went all-out in qualifying trim in order to keep up (and get a good pit stall selection) and therefore will fall back on the start as his main competitors are in better shape for the race since they could set it up that way and still be dominant in qualifying whereas Sadler could not. It's not that Sadler has been _bad_ this season in the time trials, avg. start of 9.2 before this race, but he's not in the same league with the #19's and #20's equipment, not even close. 4. He didn't do anything spectacular in Texas, he missed the race at Pheonix, and now he's DNQd Homestead. At least if Derrike was driving they probably would have had a better shot at making it vs. Dexter 5. Tyson posted: 11.19.2016 - 1:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dexter brought money. There were a lot of rumors earlier in the year that Brendan Gaughan would be retiring after this race but it has already been announced he'll be back in 2017. 7. chevyfan98 posted: 11.19.2016 - 2:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Go Allgaier! 8. racefangurl posted: 11.19.2016 - 3:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I won't be home at race time, but otherwise I would stay here. 9. Has he really "struggled" in Trucks? To me it's more like it just curiously took him a lot longer to win in Trucks than you would have expected. But it's not like he's running 14th every race or something. Most of the time that he's run a Truck he's been at least a semi-contender to either win or get a good run in. For whatever reason he just could never find victory lane until last week at Phoenix (granted, he still probably wouldn't have won it if Byron didn't blow his engine, but there's been other Truck races that Suarez probably SHOULD have won in a similar manner). I also think Byron was just SO good this year that he's pretty much made every other KBM Truck driver past and present (except Jones I guess) look worse in comparison... Suarez had a roughly equivalent season with Sadler this year, and Sadler had a worse car and was nothing resembling a Cup superstar. Suarez will get his wins. The reason they dropped it is simple - not enough excitement and easier, when you got your opponent behind you and not on the other side. Just look, how Tony Stewart won at Watkins Glen in 2005 - he restarted way too early and no one had a chance to even get close to him. But with double file restarts, you have to get rid of your opponent on your right or left side. Plus, all those slow cars on the left almost everytime is much worse than occassionaly one car staying out on older tires. 205. Same here. No one came even close to Kyle's record before William Byron (Bubba Wallace scored 4 wins in 2014). But still, even Kyle didn't at least tie Greg Biffle's record of 9 wins in 1999. 222. I think the #51 was garbage compared to the #4 and #9. This year's #4 was last year's #51, so this year's #51 was a new team that was stuck with the likes of Cody Coughlin when Suarez wasn't in it. So it's not that surprising that it took them all year to finally get Suarez what he needed to run better and finally be in a position to win. There might be something telling about how they ran a part-time 4th truck for Kyle Busch in his starts rather than put him in the #51. Do sponsorship deals override the chance for Kyle to get a win in the #51 and get all 3 KBM trucks in the Chase, at least? 224. Suarez outscored everyone in the Chase by 15 points thanks to never finishing outside the top 5 and being the only Chase driver to get multiple wins over the 7 races. And he saved the championship decider to set a new career high in laps led. I'm glad it ended up being between Suarez and Sadler at the end, they were the two best full time drivers this season by a wiiiiiiiide margin. But also equally glad that it was Suarez who came out on top, because Suarez and the 19 was virtually flawless over the entire Chase. also, I think Scott Graves is a really good CC. 225. Read the rules before asking - if a Cup driver makes the Chase and has more than 5 years of Cup experience, he is not allowed to race in any Chase races and Dash 4 Cash races. There's also a limit of 10 Xfinity races and 7 Truck races per season. Otherwise, he can still race as much as possible like before. So in this case, the only allowed Cup drivers to race at Homestead next year are Aric Almirola and Ryan Blaney. Or others less experienced, if they are interested. 229.
