Not many fans were familiar with Benjamin prior to that announcement, but he's been very successful in both the East series and ARCA up until now and has positioned himself for a strong debut today. 4. It's been a long time coming, since the strange finish at Talladega last year took away what appeared to be his win because of a bogus caution with about 100 feet left until the finish line. 6. The Cup Drivers + Overprivileged JGR Toyota class, and 2. Everyone else. NASCAR could award points and classify finishing positions accordingly. Like with the IMSA series, there can be good battles in the GTLM or some other class way back in the field while the Prototype class dominates up front. 41. I think the caution came out after they crossed the designated overtime line while Larson was in the lead and that's why he wins. The racing was good, we had some upsets in the top 10, and we even had strategy late in the race to top everything off. JSPorts posted: 04.29.2017 - 3:47 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) What a terrible ending to a great race. The McLeod caution should not have been a caution. There was no fluid on the track and no cars crashed. No debris on track. This new overtime system is so screwed up, not even the drivers understand it. It should either be no overtime at all or unlimited attempts at green-white-checkered, and always race back to the line. Besides, the final wreck shouldn't have been a caution. All the cars drove away. Once again, NASCAR screws us out of a classic finish between Sadler & Allgaier. I wonder why the stands were 90% empty today? Finally, they really need to get the Cup guys out of the lower series. It just sucks that the series regulars couldn't battle it out for the $100,000 cause Ty Dillon had to go screw the restart up and then Larson took advantage at the end. Who cares if they don't get the extra seat time that they think they need so badly? This new 10-race for 5-year veterans rule is ridiculous as well, because it still allows the points leader of the Cup series to steal the show from the younger guys. This is why the future of the sport looks so bad. Plus, running these races doesn't help them on Sundays very much. Jimmie Johnson has won 7 of the last 11 titles with only a few Xfinity starts in that time. 106. DB1995 posted: 04.29.2017 - 3:51 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) Wow, a cup driver won an xfinity race. Jimmie Johnson has won 7 of the last 11 titles with only a few Xfinity starts in that time." "Side Note I haven't seen Chase Elliot run a race so is seat time really necessary?" Have you noticed that all of the Hendrick guys haven't really ran Xfinity whatsoever? It seems to be a Hendrick thing. I mean even Kyle Busch ran only 14 races in 2005 instead of 20+ races. 123. His last race was with Tony Stewart in 2009 and he hasn't run a single Xfinity Series race since... Yes, Kyle ran only 14 races in 2005, but wanted to run for the title in 2006 and made all but one start that year. And in 2007, he ran 19 times. 124. This 10-race limit is a joke, because it doesn't apply for youngsters who can run the rest. And I don't understand why the less experienced Cup drivers are allowed to race in the Dash 4 Cash and Chase races, either. These 4 races plus all the Chase races should be just for Xfinity Series regulars. No other limits are necessary... And after 8 races, we have only 2 series regulars who won the race. And Kyle Busch won't win or race till the middle of June, so it's still the same even without him. 127. murb posted: 04.30.2017 - 3:25 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) "When Kyle Busch moved to JGR in 2008, Hendrick literally nearly stopped racing in Xfinity." Well, considering that Hendrick became a partner in JRM starting in 2008, there's really been no need for them to run a straight up Hendrick Xfinity car with JRM there in its place... But yeah, since Kyle Busch was doing a lot of Buschwhacking in 2006/2007 (and so was Casey Mears in 2007 IIRC), I doubt that Hendrick had some sort of policy or something against Buschwhacking. Seems more to me that Gordon and Johnson just never really had any interest in running the series once they became Cup drivers (outside of Gordon running for his team with Evernham in 1999/2000 and a few very sporadic starts for Johnson over the years). I wish other drivers would have followed suit with that... 128. Apart from Johnson, Gordon was able to win even for his own team, while Johnson didn't win a damn in 21 starts in ELITE equipment. Pretty funny that his teammate Kyle Busch was able to win 6 times in 67 starts (after becoming a full-time Cup driver). Pretty horrible comparing to his JGR career in Xfinity, but still better than Johnson. "I wish other drivers would have followed suit with that..." Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano are the only experienced Cup drivers that still likes to buschwhack regularly. Then, we have some youngsters who wants to be like them and also buschwhack regularly - Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon, Ty Dillon, Erik Jones, Daniel Suarez and Ryan Blaney. And finally, Cup drivers who does it as well, but occasionally or rarely - Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Chase Elliott, Paul Menard, Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Clint Bowyer. It's simple - youngsters see what their mentors in Cup can do lower and they just trying to be like them. In other words - the best practice and the easiest way to gain some experience is the race just like in professional cycling. And in recent years, it's finally starting to pay off - Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch won their Cup championships while buschwhacking a lot (won 3 out of 4 titles from 2012-2015) and I'm sure drivers like Joey Logano or even Kyle Larson will soon win their championships as well. Hopefully, it'll be just a matter of time... 129. TeamDCR fan posted: 04.30.2017 - 9:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I felt bad for Mean Jeff Green having to be a S&P this weekend.
