Great to see talented part-timers like Ben Kennedy, Brian Scott, Kyle Benjamin, Ryan Preece, Sam Hornish, Jr., Ty Majeski, and Brett Moffitt get to run races in quality cars to show what they can do. Should be such a fun race to watch without cup drivers! My pick is 9-William Byron. He has been the best xfinity regular since Michigan and I don't expect that to change. Look for win #4 for William at Iowa. 4. joey2448 posted: 07.25.2017 - 5:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Brian Scott will come out of pseudo-retirement to make his first Xfinity start since Nov. 2015 at Homestead. 5. 95McDowellFan posted: 07.25.2017 - 10:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brian Scott is back! Unfortunately, Timmy Hill will not drive but will be in Iowa with the team as a spotter. 8. 95McDowellFan posted: 07.26.2017 - 11:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Who is Timmy Hill spotting for? 9. Long will probably spot for one of the cars and Hill will spot for the other. 10. MBM has partnered with Jerry and Phyllis Hathaway of JP Motorsports, who were part of Derrike's team last year. The car is an old Danica/JRM car with a DEI engine. 15. So Buschwhacker Count for this week is 0. Sorenson Xfinity only. It would go against all logic to travel from Pocono to Iowa, drive 12 laps, park it, and then go back to Pocono for the Cup race. Wouldn't make much sense. xP 16. What If NASCAR posted: 07.27.2017 - 12:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Th Majeski is back in the 60 car. The main difference is that Buschwhacker has a full-time Cup ride. Driver doing double-duty doesn't have to have that. 21. 95McDowellFan posted: 07.29.2017 - 12:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well Bobby Dale Earnhardt won't be racing today 22. Benjamin deserves credit for racing the 20 clean at the and not dumping him to get his first win. I'm happy for Preece. I'm happy for Yeley as well. He drove a great race and gave the #14 team their best finish of the year after a difficult week. 50. William Byron came back down to earth a bit after a crazy 6 week stretch, but was able to salvage a Top 10. Another week of Elliott Sadler working the points system to perfection. I won't say he's working towards a winless championship because he'll probably need to win Homestead to win the title. I hope J.J Yeley can make it into the playoffs, I'd rather see him in it than Michael Annett at this point. 52. rm posted: 07.29.2017 - 6:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) You could definitely tell JGR had the b-teams pitting the cars today. Preece lost several spots on pit road multiple times and Tifft went from just outside the top 5 to 16th on another pit stop. Preece of course always found his way back to the front and Tifft was trying to make a pass for fourth when Poole pinched him and Tifft spun. Still not sure how Majeski managed to hit a stopped Tifft on the apron... I guess this proves that even when guys like Busch, Hamlin, Suarez or Jones aren't in the JGR cars they still have great young talent ready to go. Hopefully this leads to some other opportunity for Preece, though he did pass on running a full year for JDM again this year. 53. There was an article on him in the The Gazette of Cedar Rapids that touched on that exact point: he made a measured decision where, he had sponsorship for a full year with JDM, or two races with JGR, and he rolled the dice and chose the latter as the better way to put his name out there. Looks like it paid off. 56. 23andJoe posted: 07.30.2017 - 7:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The article in question: http://www.thegazette.com/subject/sports/auto-racing/ryan-preece-cashes-in-on-risky-career-move-with-xfinity-win-at-iowa-speedway-20170729 57. Any other JGR's win will put them on the 1st place. And one more thing - that stupid comments about Kyle robbing Preece at Loudon were really unnecessary. He would get his first win anyway with JGR and... it did happen. Preece wasn't simply that good to beat Kyle at Loudon... 58. Never saw a race here before yesterday, and I think the remoteness of it (which increases local interest), and the competition could make this a good Cup Series track. Build another grandstand, up the stands to 50-60K...I think you have a winning formula. 60. That article was a really good read. Dale Jr. himself encouraged Preece to get in a Gibbs car instead of simply taking Preece's money and putting him in a JR Motorsports car. I'm curious as to a ballpark dollar amount between the two options. Seems crazy a full 33 race season for Johnny Davis is only worth TWO races with Joe Gibbs. 61. He nearly took the team's second entry, the 96, to a Top 10 finish, coming up just one position short. In 8 attempts, this was the best finish of 2017 for the 96 car, and it was the only one with anyone besides Ben Kennedy behind the wheel. A year and a half later, Moffitt has been announced to be driving full-time for Gallagher and GMS in the truck series, working to defend his 2018 Championship winning run. Final Top 5 for Brian Scott to date. J.J. Yeley's surprising 6th place finish marks the final Top 10 for TriStar Motorsports Xfinity program. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
