Robert Goodman is crew chief of the #4. The #98 and the #00 are teammates and should be listed as having the same owner. Both Fred Biagi and Stewart-Haas owned those cars. Landon Cassill will be racing this weekend but I don't know which series. If it's xfinity he will probably be in the B.J. McLeod #99 Chevrolet. 2. Only 3 Cup drivers on the entry list for a race that is on the same track as Cup. There were usually up to 5 Cup drivers in each non-standalone race. 2. Kyle and others have to be smart now and not use all their starts immediately. But hey, who gives a damn, anyway? Kyle needs just 9 wins to 100 and with these limits, he can get there slowly year by year (unless they ban them completely, which wouldn't be smart...). That damage has been done and Kyle can easily sleep at night, because unless you're a regular that refuses to move higher, no one can catch him. That reign of terror has done some damage... 5. As much as I would like to see him go the distance, I don't think he will until Darlington. 35. JSPorts posted: 02.24.2018 - 1:49 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Shepherd is not in his 80s, he's 76. He has to start-and-park because the team doesn't have the money to buy tires & gas, pay a pit crew & mechanics, and they don't have the resources to deal with a wrecked car (like many small teams.) I don't know why you say he'll run the full distance at Darlington (since he's start-and-parked in the last 3 Darlington races.) I doubt he will run a full race this year. He hasn't finished a race since Dover in 2013. 36. Timothy Eklund posted: 02.24.2018 - 2:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Look at those empty grandstands 37. And by the way, this was his 98th NASCAR win. Two more to 100th and also two more to tie Mark Martin for the 2nd place on the Xfinity all-time win list. He could do it in the rest of his career, before he retires. And people say this NASCAR win count only matters in Kyle Busch's case... No, it matters for all drivers. It just isn't mentioned, when it's not near some milestone. 83. Scott25 posted: 02.25.2018 - 8:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) @81 you could say the same thing since about the mid 2000's. The quality of thr racing hasn't changed much since then, there's a lot of boring races, there's some good races, and there's a few GREAT races, and that's enough to keep us watching. It's the same for all 3 series, that's how NASCAR works. 84. Scott25 posted: 02.25.2018 - 8:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) As long as there's underdogs taking the fight to the rich kids and Cup drivers, I'll keep watching the Xfinity and Truck series. And that'll happen until they implement a charter system there, too. 85. JSPorts posted: 02.25.2018 - 9:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I will keep watching Xfinity because that's where the next generation of Cup stars cut their teeth and I'd like to see them and get to know them before they arrive on the scene. Trucks still have great racing, so that's why I watch that series. However, I think you're incorrect that the mid-2000s races were the same as they are now. It was a much more level playing field between Cup & Xfinity drivers then because there was so much more competition, just like in the Cup Series. In 2005, for example, Cup drivers led 57% of the laps. In 2017, they led 69% of the laps, and so far in 2018, they've led 87% of the laps. That 12% increase is a lot to begin with, but you also have to factor in the new rules limiting Cup drivers. In 2005, Cup drivers started 333 races, meaning they averaged about 11 laps led per start. In 2017, Cup drivers started just 170 races, meaning they averaged 24 laps led per start. That's a significant increase, more than doubling in only 12 years. This is because there is much less competition now than there was in 2005. Back then, there were about 14 full-time cars and 12 part-time cars that had a shot at a win every week. By 2017, there were only about 13 full-time and 6 part-time teams that had a shot at wins, and most of those seats were filled by Cup drivers. So the opportunities for the young guys to lead laps, run up front and contend for wins has decreased by more than half. Finally, @82, nobody cares about your "NASCAR win count" stat except for you. A driver of Busch or Harvick's caliber beat up on a bunch of kids in far superior equipment isn't going to create a lasting legacy (other than the possible demise of the Xfinity Series.) 86. rm posted: 02.25.2018 - 10:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) 2005 is a bit cherry-picked, no? Because after that there were nothing but Cup drivers winning the championship until 2011. What about 2006, where the only drivers who won a race that weren't full time Cup drivers were David Gilliland and Paul Menard? 2007 only had 3 non-full time Cup winners. Point is, I really don't see how you could argue that the "Cup invasion" is worse now than it was 10+ years ago. Last year we saw 14 races won by non-Cup drivers. That's far more than we could say for the majority of years in the 2000s. 87. JSPorts posted: 02.25.2018 - 10:18 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) He said "mid-2000s." If 2005 isn't "mid-2000s," I don't know what is. So no - it's not cherry-picked, just tried to find the central year in his time period because the central year is often most representative of the period (which it is in this case, because you had the pre-2005 Xfinity drivers winning and the post-2005 Cup drivers winning.) But you're missing the entire point. I said that there were more Cup drivers in races back then, but their total domination of every race they enter now isn't the same as it was back then. And that has been getting worse every year, so all you're doing in your attempt to argue is proving my point. 2006 was worse than 2005. 2007 was worse than 2006. It got worse every season, and that is in large part due to NASCAR changing the schedule to add more Cup tracks. It also happened because Cup drivers used to run in either their own equipment or for a non-Cup owner, but now they all run for their Cup owners who are the only ones that have resources to win races. Last year, Gibbs & Penske dominated the season. Gibbs had 2 full-time Cup-driver cars while Penske had 1. The only other car that falls into that category is Tifft, and he's not a top Xfinity driver to begin with. In 2005, there were many teams that could go out and win. Some fo those teams had Cup guys, some had Xfinity guys. 2006 was the year the issue began to become worse, because Harvick decided he wanted to run full-time Xfinity and there were a few guys who moved up to Cup but decided they still wanted to run all the Xfinity races. NASCAR made this possible by eliminating most standalones. Back then, Cup drivers dominated because of saturation; there were so many of them and they generally had a higher talent level, so of course they would win. Now, they dominate because their equipment is far superior, meaning nobody can even compete with them. NASCAR's argument for why they should be allowed to race in lower divisions is that it helps the other drivers to race around the Cup guys, but they don't even get to race around them because they see them for 1-2 laps on a restart and then the Cup driver normally checks out to a 5-second lead for the rest of the race. 88. And obviously, someone doesn't want to even hear about it because of a Cup drivers in the lower series regularly... 89. Did his goal to hit 50 career wins to pass Mark Martin really change his mind? Geez... 2) Did Stewart-Haas Racing disband their second team or something? I'm honestly shocked to see Kevin Harvick wasn't driving for them when he won this race. He won for Fred Biagi, only the owner's fourth win in Xfinity? Its also the owner's first win not on a restrictor plate track. Say what you will about Kevin Harvick, but the fact he managed to not only beat, but DOMINATED the Penske, Gibbs, Ganassi and Jr Motorsport teams with an underfunded(?) team has to make this win a little more impressive than normally. Plus it goes to show how much he truly has Atlanta figured out vs the rest of NASCAR. 90. They share the old Biagi shops i think. Fred Biagi didn't sell the team he his still the main overseer of the operation but instead of running there equipment from previous years they use full blown SHR equipment kinda like a RD team to assist Cole Custer's team. Biagi and Stewart-Haas hooked their teams up so technically Biagi DenBeste became SH's 2nd team. Hope that helps!!! 92. The new team is named Stewart-Haas Racing with Biagi-Denbeste. They own both the #00 Ford and the #98 Ford. Racing-Reference should have them listed under the same owner but they don't for some reason. So Harvick did win for SHR. It was not an underfunded team. I never remember hearing Kevin say he was going to retire from xfinity. But he is cutting back a bit this year running just 5 races in the #98 Ford. 93. Look at Almirola, how he now races in Cup with elite equipment and how he raced in Xfinity with the 98 car on normal tracks. That difference is really big... Plus, Harvick isn't stupid and he just won't race for someone with a weaker equipment... Harvick has never said he will retire from Xfinity Series. Those were just some rumors... And so what? He wants to surpass Mark Martin and be 2nd forever on the all-time win list. Why not? Racers race, haters hate... 94.
