Awesome Bill from Dawsonville's #23 ISMConnect Chevrolet for this race is painted in a retro paint scheme replicating the #11 Budweiser Ford he drove from 1992 to 1994 in the Cup series for Junior Johnson; his #23 even has an associated sponsorship from Junior Johnson and Associates. While its meant to harken back to his Cup days, specifically his win at Darlington in the 1994 Southern 500, Elliott also ran that scheme in the Busch series back in 1993 when he won the only Busch race of his career that year at Watkins Glen. This is his first road course start in the series since that victory a quarter-century ago. 7. Also gives smaller teams a chance to expand into the truck series more often, such as Mike Harmon, who will more than likely have no chance to make the Xfinity field at all next year, and that's even more so true for Morgan. 23. 02Justin10 posted: 08.23.2018 - 1:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I am actually in support of the field cut. 1.) NASCAR says 39th & 40th place prize money will be redistributed throughout the 38 car field. The cars good enough to make the races will be rewarded with a bigger check. 2.) NASCAR essentially took away two provisional starting spots. If they chose to start 38 with 7 or 8 provisionals I would have been furious. Now, any team can still come in and aim to be at least 33rd fastest. 5 provisionals for Xfinity and Trucks feel about right. It will up the back of the Xfinity garage by putting pressure on them to go faster and score more points in races. 24. Jimmie4life posted: 08.23.2018 - 1:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) On the field size, it's okay. It's not like were lowering it to 25 or anything. Apparently, Derek Daly used the N-word in an interview when he was making his first couple of starts in CART in the early '80s, before his son Conor was born, and in order to avoid the backlash of those comments, Lilly Diabetes pulled their name off Conor's Xfinity car. Because lets admit, in a few years they will have an even harder time coming up with full fields(Cup can barely get 40 cars most races even right now) , It all comes down to sponsorship. 62. Danish Pie posted: 08.25.2018 - 8:08 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) The reason for Carl's terrible time is because he either stopped on pit road after he crossed the finish line to start his lap, he pulled into the garage before crossing the line to end his lap, or a combination of both. I know this because on the NBC Sports App, Carl's name never appeared on the ticker, Stephen Leicht was the last driver listed the whole session. So Carl more than likely pulled into the garage before posting an official time, and randomly crossed it in the infield four minutes later. 63. Kinda Anonymous posted: 08.25.2018 - 9:12 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) What happened to Carl happens all the time. He didn't run a lap at speed clearly. That's it. For some reason he pulled back into the garage after taking the green flag or something of the sort. His average speed was just over 36 mph, Road America is a super fast track, any production car could ran a lap faster than 36 mph average. This does not reflect Carl or his equipments true abilities. 64. ShinyMew151 posted: 08.25.2018 - 10:13 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) People on here always react that way to those kinds of laps.
