Earnhardt will be at the wheel of his self-owned JR Motorsports' #88 Hellmann's Chevrolet. He told the press he "had an itch to scratch" leading to his entry here, telling NASCAR.com he didn't miss racing at the start of the year but started to more as the season went on. Junebug will be an in-race reporter for the NBCSN broadcast of this race. 3. Danish Pie posted: 09.18.2018 - 12:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A lot or really interesting entrants in this race. Mason Diaz and Cody Lane making their Xfinity debut, Lane with a new team that he owns. Katherine Legge making her Xfinity and NASCAR oval debut. Quin Houff making his first start of 2018 in the Johnny Davis No. 4 for Ross Chastain's third and final race in the 42. Matt Mills returns to Xfinity action in the 78 for B.J. McLeod. And as the previous posts mentioned, the return of Dale Earnhardt Jr. for his only race of 2018. 41 cars qualifying, so one car will miss the show. Don't know how fast Lane will be, so that's a mystery. But more than likely Morgan will be the odd man out of the 40 car field. 4. The car's average finish in races it is running at the finish is 17.2, but its overall average finish is 24.2. Here's a breakdown by driver: Austin Cindric: 9 starts, 0 top 10s, 27.1 average finish, 0 laps led, 4 DNFs, best finish 13th (Watkins Glen) Chase Briscoe: 10 starts, 3 top 10s, 19.7 average finish, 2 laps led, 3 DNFs, best finish 9th (Chicago, Indianapolis) Ty Majeski: 7 starts, 1 top 10, 27.0 average finish, 4 laps led, 3 DNFs, best finish 7th (Iowa) Briscoe has clearly been better than the other two. Cindric & Majeski have been nearly interchangeable, but you've got to give the nod to Majeski here, with more top 10s, a better average finish, more laps led and a better best finish in fewer starts. 16. Honestly, without the playoffs, this would be an amazing battle, especially considering the Roval Is next week. It would have been very possible to see 5 drivers make it to Homestead with a chance to win a season long championship. 80. But if they ever did get rid of it and go back to a season long championship format I think it would be interesting to increase the points rewarded for a top 5 finish during the last 10 races. This would keep pressure on the points leader to keep racing rather then cruise to the finish and also promote late season comebacks for other drivers. 81. If SHR just wanted to pick the best driver to win them another Cup championship they'd hire Chastain right now, but it remains to be seen which team prioritizes winning over money. 82.
