David posted: 11.06.2018 - 2:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) No Xfinity race here has ever been scheduled for more than 200 laps, so I don't know why anyone would expect differently for this one. Like New Hampshire, this 1-mile track produces lower speeds because of its lack of banking, and 200 laps (200 miles) is the correct distance for the typical amount of time NASCAR wants a race in this series to take. Even at Dover (also 1 mile), they only run 200 laps in Xfinity races although those are faster laps which take less time. 9. JSPorts posted: 11.06.2018 - 2:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 200-lap races at ISM usually take about 2 hours to complete. That's a little below average for an Xfinity race, but I personally prefer a little shorter race. When the race is as short as this one is, the drivers never really get to let their guard down. They have to be on their game all day, from start to finish. There isn't really a middle portion of the race where you can settle in. 10. Partly cause the switched soon after I started watching, so I hadn't become familiar with the difference between the two ends. It might have been different for the guys in the race though. From a fan perspective, nothing really changed. The S/F line was merely moved from one straight to the other. The camera angles were still the same and the track still had two pit roads. Even Atlanta wasn't confusing when the reconfigured that in 1997. I think what makes Phoenix feel weird is that all the stands are now at one end of the track and the typical camera angels we are used to can't really be used. Also Pit Road entrance is still in the same spot and runs along the same stretch as before. 40. joey2448 posted: 11.10.2018 - 4:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tight racing between Cindric and Bell for third place, currently lap 87. It appears the pit entrance is still located in the same spot but they moved the rest of it back towards the infield, and that's created a big empty area between pit road and the racetrack in turns 3 and 4 (formerly 1 and 2). Phoenix turned that empty area into a big O'Reilly Auto Parts logo. The pit exit is much further along the frontstretch (formerly backstretch) than it used to be. 44. Austin Cindric was eliminated from the playoff and that also means #22 car can't get it's 5th owner's championship, because that car was also eliminated from the owner's playoff. On the other hand, Stewart-Haas Racing has a chance to get their 1st owner's title with Cole Custer just like Chip Ganassi Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing will compete for their 6th owner's title and Richard Childress Racing has a chance to tie Joe Gibbs Racing's record of 5 owner's titles. 97. Well, it looks like they are not that pointless, when Penske Racing is even able to consider it as more important thing than driver's championship (see 2013). And it definitely means a lot for teams like JGR, Penske or RCR - those teams have won 13 titles together since 2001. In 2002, I guess it was Roush-Fenway Racing due to Biffle's title, but I haven't found any standings (I assume it's the same as driver's standings). In 2004 and 2005, it was Chance 2 Motorsports with Truex as a champion and in 2011, it was Roush-Fenway Racing again. Those are the only years those 3 teams didn't win that title. 100. That means those limits are working and there's no need to make them more strict. However, they came too late, because this only ensures that no Cup driver can do the same what Kyle Busch has been doing and it basically makes him untouchable there. The only driver that can at least theoretically do something with it is Johnny Sauter, but he's 40 already, so it's still a long way to the top in Trucks... 102. jensenators posted: 11.11.2018 - 1:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @100, to add to that, Kenji Momota made his only Truck start at Phoenix in 1995. 103. Hemric Custer -10 Bell -15 Allgaier -23 Sadler -45 Sure, Sadler would be a massive longshot, but that's 5 guys that could have won the championship. 104. It probably wasn't too much trouble for them to install the shocks and brake calipers and whatever else needed to be done. They didn't buy him 5 sets of tires so he could run the whole race so they knew he wasn't gonna run long. Help a guy make a few bucks if it's no trouble to you. 107. That means that Tyler Hill's 31st-place finish for MBM is the final time (at least in the foreseeable future) that a Dodge will compete in a NASCAR national series race. 109.
