Elliott Sadler's final race as a full time competitor. Not sure if either Mike Harmon or Carl Long will field one, but final race where a Dodge can enter. Final race for steel body cars of any kind. 2. RWR posted: 11.13.2018 - 2:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Tim Viens in the 74, oh man... 3. The 37 would be in that group except Jeff Green has a PCP to fall back on, so he will absolutely be in the race on Saturday. Others that would be in danger, in order, would be the 13, 55, 61, 93, 74, 66, 45, and 40. If qualifying is rained out, then the 5 that would be missing the race would be the 86, 92, 26, 99, and 61. 12. Frank Black posted: 11.13.2018 - 8:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) (Regarding comment 4, which is what I'd posted earlier) Let me clarify that this change begins next year. They are NOT downsizing this weekend. They downsized the field after the 2012 season from 43 to 40. Seeing that they have made the decision to not pay the S&P's, some small-time teams like Shepherd Racing Ventures could shut down, among others. I'd say that this is the last pay-to-park race, so RSS is going all-out and entering 4 cars. 2 of their cars are locked in via points, being driven by the least competent of the team *cough cough* Angela.... Jeff Green, driving the new car that doesn't have the points on it's side, has the champion's provisional. This is their attempt at the last possible 'cash - grab'. Of course, maybe some teams might make a 'clever' attempt to fake it out. Who knows! So there's my two cents. Do with it what you will. 24. 34McDowellFan posted: 11.13.2018 - 9:18 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @23 Where are you getting the info they won't pay start and parks anymore? 25. Danish Pie posted: 11.13.2018 - 9:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @23 NASCAR isn't outright not paying teams that S&P. They're downsizing the field by two to prevent it, yes. But it would really be difficult and unfair to not pay teams that exit the race in the early laps of a race. I know it's from the Cup side, but take Garrett Smithley's Cup debut with StarCom at the June Michigan race for example. His transmission failed on lap 1 and they DNF'd. Would that mean they wouldn't get paid, cause they pulled into the garage on lap 1 for a legitimate issue? And yeah, there are those teams that we already know coming in are gonna pull in, like the 93 for example, but for a team like say Carl Long or Mike Harmon, who's equipment is spotty at best, that would be a huge hit to them, cause you can't always determine a S&P from a mechanical DNF. 26. Frank Black posted: 11.13.2018 - 10:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 25. Good point, but his intention, much like the rest of his StarCom crew, was to go out and run the full race. There are teams who show up to only run at most, 25 laps, like Morgan or Jeff Green. They outright start and park without any legitimate issue. Call me crazy, but it is possible that the officials check to see if they have actually dropped out of the race due to a real failure. Jeff Green and Stephen Leicht are prime examples. They drop out early each and every week, in cars that consistently qualify in the top 30. That's what they are trying to change. 27. 34McDowellFan posted: 11.13.2018 - 10:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @26 Hence why start and park teams use things like "Vibration", "Handling", "Overheating", or "Electrical" as their DNF reasons, because its something that can't be proven 28. While people will disagree with me and that's fine I feel that Reddick deserves more credit for becoming champion when all the odds were against him and doesn't become some another so called "example" of why NASCAR shouldn't have a playoff system when I feel that he earned this championship by racing and beating the best tonight. 216. In agreement with you, Reddick won a race when it mattered. (Actually he did it twice this season) On occasion it can happen that the person who seems the most deserving doesn't win the championship. And nothing wrong with that, but when the exceptions start to become the rule, the championship will be worth less. It doesn't happen overnight, but it starts slowly and over time you will find that more and more people don't care anymore. I'd like to illustrate, revisiting 2015 once again, but comparing KURT Busch's 2015 Cup Season with Tyler Reddick's 2018 Xfinity Season. Candidate A: Races 33/36, 3 Poles, 2 Wins, 10 T5, 21 T10, Led 788 Laps, Average Finish 11.1 Candidate B: Races 33/33, 0 Poles, 2 Wins, 7 T5, 20 T10, Led 184 Laps. Average Finish 12.9 And yet, Candidate B won a championship and Candidate A placed 8th. ANOTHER EXAMPLE, this time of the opposite. A very talented racer, lost out on a championship (albeit in a non-perfect system less flawed than the current one). Candidate B: 36 Races, 6 Poles, 7 Wins, 15x T5, 22xT10, Led 1959 Average Finish 10.5 - Champion Candidate J: 36 Races, 2 Poles, 8 Wins, 17x T5, 21xT10, Led 1673 Average Finish 12.5 - Placed 10th Most of the stats except Average Finish is close enough that you could have expected (just looking at the stats) that the drivers possibly finished 1-2 in the championship, yet there was a 9 place difference in the championship. And to conclude with the 2016 Cup Championship, a season many believe (and that include some of his fans and maybe even the champion himself) was sort of lucked into. Candidate J: 36 Races, 1 Pole, 5 Wins, 11x T5, 16xT10, Led 737 Average Finish 14.0 - Champion Yet, the driver had the most wins of all the competitors. What make his season less than stellar was his T5s (ranked 6th), T10s and Average Finish (both ranked 11th). I'm not blaming the players, I'm blaming the game. Congratulations to Tyler and to Brett. 220. To add some context, Tyler has a worst average finish than Matt Tift for the season. 221. Mannoroth posted: 11.18.2018 - 7:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 168. Well, they have to fix what isn't broken. They created a monster and that monster got out of control... It started with JJ's 5 straight titles just because he always focused more on the Chase than on the regular season and now, it just shows it's true colors again. A guy, who has 7 top 5s and is almost 200 points back, wins the title. Give me a break! At least he has 20 top 10s, so it's not 100% bad... 207. Well, I'm the complete opposite. No Kyle Busch in lower series races = not interested. I do look at the finish and the key moments of the race, but just don't care, when there are just some vanilla drivers and no one to cheer for (maybe except JGR drivers to keep adding those wins to make sure no one will catch them). I also don't ignore them at all due to the fact I like NASCAR's all 3 series. I'm seriously starting to think that Logano wins the Cup title now - Harvick doesn't show his true speed, something will happen to Kyle Busch and Truex will choke late... Easy scenario for Logano to win it and then that "one-time only champ and you're done" trend continues... 222. Busch started just 25 of the 36 races and scored nearly 500 points less than Harvick yet won at Homestead and was crowned champ. Reddick winning may seem fluky but it's 100 times less fluky than what Busch did in Cup in 2015. He would've have been 20th in any season prior to 2003 and yet somehow was the 'best' in Cups gimmick in place at the time. I'll give NASCAR this. This format IS more 'exciting'. There's always a close battle at the cutoffs and it always comes down to the last race etc etc. But they've TOTALLY lost anybody who considers themselves a 'traditionalist'. And judging by the stands and ratings that's quite a few ppl. I watch now more because 'I always have' and just enjoy racing so much that I can't tune out. More and more I see I'm in the minority. NASCAR needs to find its roots. Quickly. And even then it may be too late already. 223. Did we forget 3 years ago a Cup title was awarded to a guy who missed almost a third of the season? But Busch played within the rules and won the title then and Reddick won it today. The current system doesn't reward who 'deserved it'. At least not over 33 races. It's simply who got hot at the right time. We can debate whether it's a format that we as the fans all want but Reddick certainly EARNED the title. NASCAR was desperate to make their postseason more like a stick and ball sport format and they've done that. Sometimes the 9-7 wild card team (Reddick) who didn't impress nearly as much as the 15-1 division champ (Bell/Allgaier) wins the Super Bowl. Now it can happen in racing too. Again.....is it the format we should be using? I'm sure many of us - myself included - think not. But Reddick deserved the title. He played the rules given him - just like Bell Allgaier and anyone else and he did it best. Simple as that. 224.
