Roush and Ginassi abruptly folded last year, and JPS didn't enter, which left a hole in the entry list. 2.) there were still teams consistently Start and Parking, something NASCAR is still trying to kill. So I'm gonna disagree. Plus the series still has Carl Long, Mike Harmon and Jermey Clements, so thats not exactly screwing small teams since those three will make the race. 18. This race pays very well compared to rest of the Xfinity schedule, and there is the possibility that you can ride around in the back of the field and end up in the Top 20 due to late-race attrition from a "big one" (as long as you stay out of it). You may see some drivers run a very conservative race, but there is motivation to stay out on the track till the checkers. 41. Earnhardt will run for both the new Xtreme Concepts team and Joe Gibbs in the Xfinity Series this season. Ross Chastain makes his debut at the wheel of Matt Kaulig's new second car, the #10 Chevrolet, in this race. Chastain was initially to run full time for Chip Ganassi in 2019, building on his success in the #42 Chevrolet in a few races late last season, but after the FBI raided sponsor DC Solar and the home of its owner that sponsorship dissolved and so did the #42 team with it. Chastain took a hit there but will still get a full-time campaign in 2019 as he'll do three races including this one for Kaulig and return to again drive the JD Motorsports #4 in the other 33 events. Scott Lagasse, Jr. will drive the #4 in his place for this opener. Blake Koch was initially scheduled to return to the Xfinity series to drive the JD #4 this year after a one-year layoff but choose to set away from racing entirely at the time of the Chastain deal to focus his attention on his booming business FilterTime. 47. Xfinity with no-one trying to make a race of it (mostly because they all knew they couldn't), and GOTS ending with only 5 trucks racing (plus two smoking and one overheating). Very different appearance, but neither of them anywhere close to a good race (altho if you like crashes, I guess you were entertained by the GOTS race). Been some good racing at New Smyrna this week, tho. 118. An uncanny winner, 3 casualties due to non-crash incidents, with boring and lifeless racing. Maybe this race was never actually run... perhaps it was just 3 hours of 704 Games showing off their new and improved graphics.... 133. Anonermouth posted: 02.17.2019 - 9:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 128.) The 19 of Brandon Jones finished in the top 5 in both stages and finished 3rd in the race. The stage finishes gave him playoff points which amounted to a total higher than that of the winner of the race. Annett finished in the top 10 in only the last two stages, (9th and 1st) Chastain also ahead of Annett for this reason. It's a rubbish system, but it's designed to have more "racing" throughout the event. It's a shame it didn't really work in this race! 134. Holding your spot is just smart racing. If you want a spectacular show go see Cirque du Soleil or something. This is a sport first and foremost. It's about winning and strategy, not pleasing the whiny "old school" fans that complain about literally everything. 135. TooSmartForThis posted: 02.17.2019 - 1:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @134 You contradict yourself. If it's about winning then staying in line and not trying to win doesn't make sense. To imply that sports are not meant to be entertaining is just laughable. The fans who were around to see the sport when it was actually good are just disappointed to see what it has become. But if you can enjoy it, more power to you. 136. possum posted: 02.17.2019 - 10:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @ 123 - you're speaking of the New Smyrna racing? It wasn't just the K&N. The Whelen modifieds ran half a dozen races (not officially under the Whelen banner, they just call them "tour type" modifieds). And we had Pro Late Models, Super Late Models, and Late Model Sportsmen. Plus Florida modifieds and "Pro Trucks". Plus probably something else I'm forgetting. 4 features a night, for 9 nights, and most of them better competition than we've seen on the big track. It was interesting, too, to see the number of "sons of" racing - Ernie Irvan's son, Mike Skinner's son, Travis Kvapil's son...we'll likely see them in NASCAR before too long. 137. To have two drivers ahead of him in the standings is absolutely inexcusable, that should not be possible. 138.
