The thing is S&P teams don't get hurt by this much, RSS is plenty fast enough and both the 38 and 93 almost always start and park and they almost always make the race while a team like Mike Harmon never parks but also struggles to make races I'm also afraid even if he is a S&P, this could be the end of the road for Morgan Shepherd 14. Corey posted: 08.21.2019 - 3:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The problem is that its not the Start and Park teams that will disappear. It'll be teams further up the standings who can't get enough sponsorship to maintain their level of competitiveness. NASCAR reduced the field to 38 cars this year, well we also lost the 16, 60, and 42 teams, among others. This meant that the Start and Parks teams didn't have to worry about the reduced fields as much. 17. ShinyMew151 posted: 08.21.2019 - 4:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) We would have lost those teams regardless of field size, especially the 42 18. UnderdogFan89 posted: 08.21.2019 - 5:33 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) As a guide to thinking about this change, I went back and looked at this year to see who would have missed the race if the field was 31/5 instead of 33/5. Obviously things could have been very different, especially in those races with only 37 or 38 entries that meant qualifying wasn't a priority, but it's still interesting to look at. Daytona - #13 Max Tullman and #74 Mike Harmon Atlanta - #89 Morgan Shepherd Vegas - #74 Harmon and #89 Shepherd Phoenix - #89 Shepherd Fontana - #89 Shepherd Texas - #13 John Jackson and #74 Harmon Brisol - #89 Shepherd Richmond - #13 Timmy Hill and #21 Kaz Grala Talladega - #13 Chad Finchum Dover - #89 Shepherd and #13 Jackson Charlotte - #01 Stephen Leicht and #5 Matt Mills Pocono - #13 Jackson and #89 Shepherd Michigan - #13 Hill and #35 Joey Gase Iowa - #13 Hill and #74 Harmon. Jeff Green needs to use PCP. Chicago - #38 Jeff Green, #90 Ronnie Bassett, Jr., and #78 Vinnie Miller. #13 Joe Nemechek makes it on PCP Daytona - #13 Joe Nemechek and #28 Shane Lee Kentucky - #17 Camden Murphy and #89 Shepherd Loudon - #17 Bayley Currey and #66 Hill Iowa - #89 Shepherd and #74 Harmon Watkins Glen - #13 Finchum Mid-Ohio - #53 Tullman and #68 Brandon Brown Bristol - #35 Gase and #99 C.J. McLaughlin Some notes: The #93 never makes the list, and the #38 only does once. The ones most affected are Harmon, Shepherd, and Carl Long's teams (13, 35, and 66 all are under his banner). A lot of these are start-and-parks, but quite a few aren't. I count 16 times a car that ran the full race would have DNQ'd under these rules. 20. Do they realize they can't cut the field over and over like it's going to solve the problem? It's only going to make it worse because the Start and Parks will still make the field and all we'll have is shuttered small full time teams and 30 cars running 20% into a race. I really try to justify all the moves NASCAR makes, but I don't stand for this at all... 24. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 08.21.2019 - 8:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) "I really hope some owners and other significant figures in NASCAR make some noise to stop this field shrinkage. Do they like hate small teams?" Pretty sure NASCAR wants as many people too show up too the races as possible. Boy I remember a time when people hated S&Ps now hate shrinking fields. Anyway the bigger teams could careless about anyone else but themselves. The bigger teams want it too be THEIR sandbox, not EVERYONES sandbox. Why do you think charters exist? Because they wanted it (and they outsmarted and outnumbered NASCAR). Why has racing gotten so expensive? Blame the bigger teams. The mid-field back marker teams live within their means most of the time. Bigger teams can't. 25. Yeet posted: 08.21.2019 - 9:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) @24 it's not necessarily that I'm butthurt about trying to get rid of S&P teams, is that this won't affect them whatsoever. We could shrink all the way to 30 cars and Start and Parks will still race and all we'll be doing is killing off teams that actually try to race. There's eventually going to be a time if we head down this path that underdogs in NASCAR won't exist whatsoever. This sport hasn't ever nor will never be built on large teams. This isn't F1. This sport was built on people taking what they have and trying to race, what's so wrong with wanting it to stay that way? 26. Scott25 posted: 08.23.2019 - 2:37 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The solution to start & parks has always been so obvious and simple. Ask each team as they enter the track each week if they're planning on running the full distance. Those who answer ?yes? receive the provisionals and have higher precedence in the qualifying order. Then the teams who are planning on parking race for the remaining spots, if any. So if there's only 30 teams running the distance and there's 38 spots, there's room for 8 S&Ps. But if there's 39 drivers running the distance at the track, they'll be racing for the field and the S&Ps are out of luck. The main (and really only) problem with S&Ps is when they still spots and provisionals from teams who are going to attempt the full race. And to discourage lying, if you say you're running the distance and park anyway, you won't receive prize money and won't be welcome back at the track for an indefinite period of time. It's not that hard to tell the S&P teams. They clearly don't have enough tires or even a pit crew so the distinction really isn't hard to make. Reducing the field size isn't the answer. 32. Who can fault him for that? It's just part of racing. We also have to remember that, in spite of his recent strong runs, DiBenedetto was never previously known as a top-level road racer. He might be turning into that, but perhaps expectations going into today were a bit unrealistic. 119. Tarheel posted: 08.25.2019 - 3:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The 7 isn't locked in, but the odds of three different teams that are running for Xfinity points who haven't won yet pulling of wins in the next three races AND all five of the guys behind them who are currently in the playoffs passing them in points are about a quadrillion to one. The likes of Gray Gaulding, Jeremy Clements, and Brandon Brown are not going to win the next three races. Justin will be in the playoffs. 139. Corey posted: 08.25.2019 - 10:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @138 Let me clarify two things. 1. Justin Allgaeir himself is locked into the drivers playoffs vie points. He has enough of a cushion on the fourth winless driver that he can't be over come. 2. I'm just looking at it from a pure mathematical standpoint of which there is still way for the #7 JRM team to miss the playoffs. This also doesn't need to involve the 08, 51 or 86 teams. Say the 8, 23 and 19 teams win the next three races. The 9, 11 and 18 all pass the 7 in points. The 7 team would now be out. I am fully aware though, that realistically and mathematically are not the same. This scenario would require the following. 8 to win with a non-cup driver 18 to win all six stages and finish 2nd 11 to finish 2nd in all six stages and third for all three races 7 to exit all three events early and only score 1 point Granted its an extreme longshot and one I don't see happening, but as of right now, the 7 team is not locked into the playoffs. 140. Pardus nosed his car against the wall right at the yellow line that ends pit road, and NASCAR allowed the stage to finish before he could be retrieved. I just wonder how he got himself into that situation and odd angle there, lol. 143.
