Currently, 24 of 29 wins have been earned by non-Cup regulars. I believe that is already a record (2002 and 1992 were the closest seasons I could find to that number, though it can be difficult in some cases to determine who was a Cup regular and who wasn't). Based on the rules, the season should end with 28 of 33 wins by non-Cup regulars. 79. Fact is, including 1983, that they WILL tie the record because Cup guys are banned from the remaining four races, giving them 28 out of 33 races won by regulars. In 1983, it was 28 out of 35 (at a quick count), so the percentage this year will be higher. 95. To be honest, though, I wasn't quite sure how to apply the stats from 1982 and 1983 and I've never fully understood how the transition from Sportsman Series to Busch Series took place. (I was born in 1985, so that was slightly before my time). I would love to understand that better. @95 - Indeed. Sure, it would be great if there were a greater variety of Xfinity winners this season, but I'd still rather see 3 Xfinity regulars dominate the series than seeing Cup guys dominate. 97. Mile501 posted: 10.06.2019 - 8:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) To expand on comment #95 a bit...while it's great to see guys like Bell, Custer, and Reddick get their time in the spotlight, it makes me wonder what we missed out on a decade or so ago. Guys like Jason Leffler, Bobby Hamilton Jr., Stephen Leicht, Ashton Lewis, Kyle Krisiloff, Jason Keller, and Mike Bliss missed out on competing for wins and championships. There are likely other drivers who never even got a chance to compete full-time in the Busch Series because Cup drivers took most of the good rides. Could any of them have won a championship? Could any of the younger drivers in that group have gone on to have solid Cup careers? Maybe or maybe not, but because of the Cup dominance, none of them ever got the same chance to stand out like the opportunity those Xfinity drivers are getting this year. So, all things considered, I'm glad to see the Xfinity Series as it is now. 98. 34McDowellFan posted: 10.06.2019 - 10:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Lap leader breakdown shows Joe Nemechek led lap 49 but he he's listed as leading 0 laps 99. Just as long as you advance one way or another. And then at Homestead nothing that happened previously matters at all, because the 4 finalists have identical points. Which means it's as if whoever wins the first race in the round, being obviously assured of advancing, can then just coast through 2 races and even if he finishes last twice that has no effect at all on where he'll be in the points when the first race of the next round comes up. It seems to me that those races ought to count for something. 103. Which is just another reason why having playoffs is idiotic, though I understand the short attention span of newer fans and the manufactured excitement thing. It's just not something a truly popular sport needs to resort to. 105.
