This swap is part of the move to have the Brickyard 400 weekend on the Fourth of July for the first time. The race will be run as part of a unique doubleheader with he IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis, delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, as part of the first-ever NASCAR-IndyCar doubleheader. 6. Ultimately it didn't come to pass due to the pandemic, in addition to having less resources for preparing an extra car Smoke said the main goal of a potential return was to be a treat to the fans attending the race in his Hoosier State home but spectators were not allowed for this race because of health conditions. 7. RaceFanX posted: 07.01.2020 - 9:52 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) This is the first NASCAR national touring level race to take place on a modern FIA Grade One level road course, the highest level it has meeting all of the requirements for immediate hosting of Formula 1 races. There are only two Grade One courses in the United States, the IMS Roval (built for the 2000-2007 revival of the U.S. Grand Prix) and Austin's Circuit of the Americas (built for the 2012 incarnation of the U.S. Grand Prix and not having hosted a major stock car race at this time). Interestingly the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series are eligible for FIA Super License points but only as long as their road course race are held on FIA-recognized circuits. While this is the first Grade One race that isn't an issue since most of the major American road courses are all Grade Two including Sonoma, Watkins Glen, Road America and Mid-Ohio. 28. JSPorts43 posted: 07.01.2020 - 10:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'd love to see a race at COTA at some point. However, I believe TMS has a no-compete clause with NASCAR where no other track in the state can host a race as long as they do. That's too bad, because Austin would probably put on a better show than Fort Worth. 29. Corey posted: 07.01.2020 - 10:05 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @27 Can you clarify more what you mean. Montreal was Grade One and hosted NASCAR and F1 concurrently. Mexico City had previously hosted F1 but I do not think it was Grade One at the time for NASCAR (it had a lot of improvements before F1 returned). The Cup series also raced at Suzuka but those were only non-points exhibition races (they didn't use the F1 layout but it likely still counts). 32. cba2442 posted: 07.01.2020 - 11:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anyone have an idea what the lap times will be for this track? Last week Patrick Magee was listed CC on the #61, This week he is the listed CC on the #13 so it is the same team. Does that mean, in order to tell what car someone might be driving, the crew chief for the team is a better indicator of the quality of the car than the driver? Looking at Mario Gosselin for example I can see that he is the crew chief for Alex Labbe both this and last week but the #92 car (Josh Williams) has a different crew chief and the #36 car (Pardus this week/Bean last week) also have a different chief. 39. Not even JGR is that strict... 172. As far as rookies are concerned, it really isn't. People aren't expecting anything but domination from Kyle Busch, but he can afford some bad years as well, because he's an established Cup driver with a lot of experience. Some rookie can win even 10 races in lower series, but when he goes to Cup, he will struggle even with the best equipment. It's been 14 years since Denny Hamlin came into Cup and won twice at Pocono. No fuel mileage, no rain, he simply beat them there fair & square. No superspeedway or rain win like in Keselowski's and Logano's case. 174. That ties the record set back in 1995 for most races won by series regulars to start a season. Back in 1995, 12 of the first 13 races were run by series regulars, with the lone exception being Richmond (which was won by Kenny Wallace, a rookie in the Cup Series that year). In the 14th race of the season that year, Terry Labonte won to briefly end the domination by series regulars. If a series regular wins next week at Kentucky, which they probably will considering the restrictions on cup drivers, we will have a new record for most wins by series regulars to start a season. 176.
