The 3 cars he's driven this year are already filled for Martinsville, too - Kody Vanderwal is in the #52, Stefan Parsons is in the #99 & Gray Gaulding is in the #07. 5. That's 48% (52%) of races undecided with 2 to go. That sounds kinda like a record of some sort. Is it? Point being, the Xfinity Series takes a lot of flak, but has been awesome to watch this year. It should be even crazier with Briscoe moving to Cup because out of the 11 races that were decided with >10 laps left, he won 4 of them. 11. After that '94 race, the Xfinity series left the "Paperclip" but returned just for one year, oddly enough. So here's the points situation heading into the weekend, the last race before the championship finale at Phoenix: 1. Briscoe (clinched) 2. Cindric +14 3. Allgaier +8 4. Haley +4 --- 5. Jones -4 6. Chastain -15 7. Gragson -24 8. Sieg -43 The last race, at Texas Motor Speedway, saw last-lap drama as Harrison Burton (already eliminated from title contention) passed Noah Gragson in turn 4 on the last lap to get the win, preventing Gragson from clinching a spot in the championship race. Gragson now is realistically in a must-win situation at Martinsville, unless the title contenders ahead of him in points suffer early trouble. 21. Mile501 posted: 10.30.2020 - 3:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The official 2021 Xfinity schedule has been released, and there is only 1 standalone race (Mid-Ohio), during the Cup Series weekend at Sonoma. Those of us hoping for more standalone races certainly won't get that next year (although, given the number of Xfinity teams that are struggling financially, this type of schedule probably makes the most sense for them). Xfinity will race at Texas on the same weekend as the All-Star Race. So, as far as I can tell, the only differences between Cup and Xfinity in 2021 are: Bristol (spring) - no Xfinity Richmond (spring) - no Xfinity Kansas (spring) - no Xfinity Cup is at Sonoma while Xfinity is at Mid-Ohio 22. anonymous posted: 10.30.2020 - 3:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 2021 XFINITY schedule has been released. Statistically, he hasn't even been as good this year as drivers such as Noah Gragson and Ross Chastain. Burton has the same amount of top 5's as Gragson, but Gragson has more top 10's and way more laps led. Same thing with Chastain. So really, Burton doesn't deserve to compete for a championship any more than those two did. And if anyone other than Chase Briscoe wins this championship, it proves how screwed up the system is anyway so I'm not sure why you even brought up Burton in the first place. Sure Burton has 4 wins, but he has not been a top 4 driver in the series this year. He was way too inconsistent. 59. Besides, Cindric has the edge on Briscoe in top 5s and top 10s so he is arguably more deserving since he has been more consistent. And Chastain never won a race all year, of course he doesn't deserve to be in the final four. It's almost as if he's not nearly as good as people make him out to be. Don't give me the equipment excuse either. 61. George_Costanza posted: 10.31.2020 - 7:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @60 I don't know if that's completely fair to say. Kaulig Racing has 7 total wins in their organization, which includes 4 plate wins and 2 road course wins. So only a single race win at a non-plate oval. Don't forget, Haley didn't really contend for a win anywhere else but a plate track. Kaulig is really close to being considered a top team, but I still think they're about a half a step behind Penske, JRM and SHR. 62. If it was still at Homestead, Briscoe and Cindric would be the two favorites because of how well they ran at 1.5 milers this year. Phoenix has been known as an Allgaier track, but his performance there in the previous 5 events has been inconsistent, and Haley automatically falls into the Longshot category. 66. Anon posted: 10.31.2020 - 10:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Everyone has been hyping Allgaier as the favorite if he gets to Phoenix, but he was not good there in the spring. He spent the entire last run of that race fighting a losing battle with Brandon Brown outside the top 10. The Gibbs cars were dominant in the spring. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this year's champion finishes 5th at best, making it truly wide open. Haley was the best finisher in that race of the final 4. My prediction is Cindric. Prior to this year, this was his strongest oval, and Penske ran Keselowski in the 12 in the spring specifically to help prepare for the championship. With no Gibbs cars eligible, I predict Cindric taking the championship. 67. Birdshot_Jones posted: 10.31.2020 - 10:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Harrison Burton is improving weekly. Briscoe and Cindric have been stellar this year, Allgaier's switch flipped when it mattered most, and Haley won 3 plate races in a row and, because of that, he has the most wins compared to everyone that didn't make the cut except Brandon Jones. My unbiased prediction: Briscoe. It's going to be fun to watch him, Cindric and Allgaier duel in the desert, as they'll all be on each other's heels all day. Haley will likely be a non-factor, but I wouldn't completely write him off just yet. I think (and hope) Briscoe will ultimately edge the others out and win the much deserved championship 72. Anon posted: 11.01.2020 - 12:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @68 I was in attendance at the event and I can tell you Allgaier was a non factor that spent more time battling Brandon Brown than other top teams. The real stats show this if you review the loop data, or use the eye test from the event. He was a non factor in the event, as was Briscoe too actually. The most overhyped sentiment of the season is that Allgaier is unstoppable at Phoenix. It is similar to the Harvick hype at the track, a thing of the past and people refuse to let go. I'm not saying he can't win the championship, but to me I consider him the biggest underdog of the 4. If we have a repeat of the spring, Haley is the champ. They were drivers 7-10 in driver rating, though driver rating in that event is skewed due to the way strategy shuffled the early part of the event. 73. Corey posted: 11.01.2020 - 7:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @72 If you actually looked at the looped data from spring, you would have seen that Allgaier had the best ave running position of the four 6 compared to 7 for Cindric and Briscoe and 8 for Haley and that his day was much better than his finish shows. This is the same guy that swept both Richmond races this year and won Phoenix last year. To call him the biggest underdog is asinine. He has the speed and capability to get it down this weekend. 74. Maybe because it's not all about putting the blinders on and focusing solely on wins? As long as the rules say that exactly four drivers will compete in one race for the championship, then maybe the four drivers who have earned the most points [even under this bastardized system with its 'stage points'] in the system that was used all year long deserve to be the four who compete for the championship in the final race? If that is true, and it is, then guess what? Both Harvick and Chastain deserve to be there. 81. Sector posted: 11.07.2020 - 7:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #80 Correct, a lot of what I've read are based on posters stating "wins" being the sole focus of who the champions should be. Such as one stating the championship should automatic go to whoever has the most wins, then tiebreakers to second, third, etc with no points distributed. I'm not sure who brought that up, but if that is the case, then Ross Chastain not clutching wins isn't Final Four material. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
