Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Justin Haley and Justin Allgaier will fight it out to see who will become the 2020 champion! Harrison Burton is coming off a stretch of two consecutive wins at Texas and Martinsville. Will he make it three in a row? 2. Currently, 23-32nd in owner's points are separated by just 39 points. The 61 is 23rd currently 10. Mile501 posted: 11.03.2020 - 4:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Among the final four, Briscoe is clearly the most deserving of this year's championship. But, since it doesn't really matter who is deserving, and it all comes down to one race...let's look at each driver's past Xfinity Series results at Phoenix: Briscoe has raced there 3 times, and has no top 5 finishes. He has finished between 6th and 8th each time. Back in the spring, though, he ran a little better than that, finishing 3rd in each stage before fading back at the end. Cindric has raced there 5 times, finishing between 4th and 8th in all but his first race there. However, he has finished lower in each successive race (his last 4 finishes, in order, were 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th). (Odd stat: Last fall, Briscoe finished 8th and Cindric finished 6th. This spring, they reversed those positions.) Haley has raced there 3 times, improving each time. His finishes, in order, were 12th, 7th, and 5th. Allgaier has at least 4 times more Xfinity starts at Phoenix than his competitors and has a strong, but inconsistent record there. In his 11 Phoenix races driving for JRM, he has 7 top 4 finishes (including 2 wins), but he has finished 10th or worse in the other 4 races. He has led 385 laps, while his competitors have each led fewer than 20. But his inconsistency has really shown in his last 6 Phoenix races. All 4 of those finishes of 10th or worse have come within the last 6 races, though he also has 1 win and 1 2nd during that span and he has led nearly 1/4 of the laps in those 6 races. Spring Phoenix Results: 5. Justin Haley 6. Chase Briscoe 8. Austin Cindric 13. Justin Allgaier In summary, Allgaier may have the best overall record at Phoenix, but he is also far less consistent there compared to his three championship rivals. For that reason, I don't think there is a clear favorite heading into this race. 11. UnderdogFan89 posted: 11.03.2020 - 6:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @9 It's been quite a few years since NASCAR has released who gets what money officially, but it used to be the top 25 in Cup and top 20 in Xfinity and Trucks were paid out. The top 30 was just for locked in purposes, which is gone now. Did they change it to top 30? That would honestly be surprising, especially with only 36 cars in the field (pre-COVID). 12. TheDewCrew posted: 11.03.2020 - 6:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Emotionally, Briscoe would win by a landslide. Two miscarriages, and an emotional Darlington win. He has been a bit inconsistent, since Dover, either winning or running 10th. Haley is clearly the underdog, and it could not be more representative of his career. A late race pass at Gateway, the leaders spinning each other out in front of him, and the leader running out of gas on the final lap. That's how he got his 3 Truck wins. Twice the seas parted at Talladega, and his teammate wrecked his other teammate going for the win. That's how he got his 3 Xfinity wins. The leader pitting, thinking the race was about to restart, only for lightning to strike, and red flag the race, before ending it, giving a new team it's first win in it's 18th start. That's how he got his first Cup win. He is a modern day closer. Allgaier, has been the third wheel. Briscoe and Cindric are having a nice day out at the track, and here comes Allgaier. He's the only one to have won Phoenix before, so this could be Allgaier's year, after 12 years of buildup. Cindric, has been good all season. Breaking through his road course ringer mold, and winning the regular season championship. His season is comparable to that of Tony Stewart 2005. He just needs to seal the deal 13. JSPorts posted: 11.03.2020 - 9:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Here's where the championship 4 are in full-season points: 1st: Austin Cindric, 1331 2nd: Chase Briscoe, -30 5th: Justin Haley, -214 6th: Justin Allgaier, -231 I think a Cindric or Briscoe championship would be legitimate. I want Briscoe to win it, but I think Cindric probably will. The fact that he'd probably be willing to drive dirty to win and how fast he's been this year on basically every type of track gives him the edge for me. 14. Positives about next year's NASCAR Xfinity schedule: Atlanta, Dega, Martinsville, & Darlington adds a race Nashville gets a race Dover loses a race Negatives: Chicagoland & Kentucky lose their dates Bristol loses a race Iowa is dropped COTA is added Lack of night races 21. Anon posted: 11.07.2020 - 4:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm probably alone on this, but Dega should be removed from the schedule instead of added. I'd stop going there until they reconfigure. Enough is enough with that type of "racing". Daytona 500 weekend should be the only time they race that way. I'd much rather see Kentucky, Iowa, or even Pocono over any more plate racing. If other tracks such as Fontana and Phoenix can reconfigure, Dega can too. Guarantee them 2 races a year and mske them a part of the championship race rotation, contingent on reconfiguring. The 2nd Daytona race can run the road course. Of course this never happens, but I can dream just like everyone else can dream up fantasy point systems that will never happen. 22. Like an early restrictor plate sort of feel? Yeah it might not have the exact same appeal but it would make it safer. 29. Have you watched the recent Cup races at Talladega and Daytona, they've all been fantastic, granted the Xfinity races at the tracks are usually underwhelming, but still. I definitely agree that the races are extremely unsafe, but the cars are safer than ever before, especially with the changes they made after Newman's wreck. 33. The talent level has decreased in Xfinity over the years, but there are still the good ones out there that give them a run for their money (Chastain, Briscoe, Cindric), but they won't be around for much longer and the talent level besides them is, well, kinda spotty. You have guys like Gragson, Burton and Haley who have a lot of potential, but their futures still uncertain because of the lack of open rides. Looking at Gragson, it's been proven in the last few weeks that he may have trouble in the clutch, meaning he can't close out races and win consistently, perhaps he'll mature next year. Burton has shown a lot of flashes this year, winning 4 races, but hasn't really been as consistent Cindric or Chastain, hell it took him 4 months to win another race after his second win, not that that's really proving any point, but still. Haley has only won on plate tracks, showing he's either a future Superspeedway ace or he has insane luck. He's shown speed throughout the year but has yet to find victory lane on a track that isn't named Daytona or Talladega, maybe he'll break through next year, considering that three of the best drivers are moving up to Cup. The potential is there, but besides Cindric, I will argue that a true ?elite? talent will be absent from the field next year. I could be wrong, though, I hope I am. 124. Let me make it clear for you. Joe Gibbs Racing has won 5 Owner's championships (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016). They even managed to win both the Driver's and the Owner's titles in 2009 thanks to Kyle Busch and 2016 with Daniel Suarez. In 2008, it was the #20 car with the help of Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and even Joey Logano. In 2010, it was mainly due to Kyle, who ran all but 6 races and in 2012, it was mainly due to Joey Logano, who won 9 times. Penske Racing has also won 5 Owner's championships (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020). This is for the first time they managed to win both the Driver's and the Owner's titles, because all their cared about was the Owner's championship in previous years. And honestly, the 2013 title should have been JGR's, because there was a controversial moment at Mid-Ohio, where Sam Hornish, Jr. wrecked Owen Kelly, so that A.J. Allmendinger could win the race and earn more points. And in the end, they lost by just one freaking point. 144. BlueOval posted: 11.08.2020 - 7:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) You guys crack me up. Moffit would be first still, with a 10 point final lead over Creed, who would be second. 152. Mile501 posted: 11.08.2020 - 1:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @151 - Thank you for correcting that. Chase Briscoe would've been a comfortable favorite, needing a 16th place finish or better to clinch the title outright, which he would've after crossing the line P9 on Saturday. 156. They lost their funding for the 07 when Ray Black Jr. left NASCAR so Ware took over for that team in the time being. Possibly RWR will run the 17 and 07 leaving Dotter with just the 08 car. BJ McLeod hasn't mentioned downsizing at all at this point to my knowledge but anything is possible. I highly doubt they'd downsize to one car in XFinity because BJ himself (typically) uses the other car(s) to fund so he can race each week. The field size of 40 without qualifying is going to be bad enough, but the 36 cutoff with Qualifying is going to derail many teams. Field expansion for Xfinity should have happened as well. Trucks bumped to 36. Xfinity should have at least bumped back to 38. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
