It was in preperation for this race that Kenny Schrader joined millions
of people as an amputee, losing the top half of his thumb in a garage
incident. The top part of it ended up in the engine of the truck, and
the rest of the top half was amputated.

NASCAR did something before the race which I don't think they've
attempted since. The top 6 qualifiers were inverted. Steve Portenga
qualified 6th fastest but started from the pole.

Only 6 races into the series existance and we already have to bid
farewell to a driver who'd been there since the 1st exhibitions.

This was the last high level NASCAR race for Gary Collins. Pretty
impressive to end it with a strong top 10, his best career finish.

Mike Skinner sets fast time on his first lap hits the first turn wall on
the second lap. Kenny Schrader actually cut the tip off in 1996 allowing
Tobey Butler to race his truck.

No, that was 1995. Tobey Butler driving his Truck was a pre-arranged
deal for several races in 1996.

RacerFanX is right, it was before this race when Ken Schrader lost a
part of his thumb when it got hit by radiator fan while Ken was working
on his car. Ron Esau drove for #52 and drove well.
